New album "What Kinda Music" out now!! ☄️ whatkindamusic.lnk.to/album
Tom Misch the new album is so incredible! “Kyiv” is my fave track. Love your art; keep making dope music
One if the greatest displays of art I have ever seen... Thank you for your contribution to music
The album is amazing
Just discovering this now, via Yussef Dayes, and as much as I love the music, vibe, textures, sonic shapes, camera work, and dancers...all I can think about is WHERE do I get a corduroy outfit like THAT! CLASSIC! (not joking-it looks great!)
Im a 65 year old lady I want y'all to know that your music makes me feel so alive ❤💃
shout-out to the cameraman floating around like a dust particle
floating like the corona virus*
Camera man getting dangerously close to Tom. 😝
Martin Celiz lol
must be the same guy from tadow
Judging by the movement smoothness it could be they have shot this with a 360 camera and then cropped the frame, considering that it is not uploaded in 4k. I could be wrong.
After hundredth times of listening,
I've just read that this gem is a fully improvised piece.
*Fully. Freakin. Improvised.*
I did not know this! That's why it is so perfect!
gotta hand it to em. pretty smooth
WHAT
If you wanna see some real sick impro, go listen to Toe. Loving their chemistry though. Can't wait to see what they do in July in London
Improvisation is what jazz is
this was all improvised
DAMN.
Tom Misch, on a level to always inspire me to make tunes.
ART.
Professional musicians vibing.
Wow really
omg was it?????
nice to see these guys are still social distancing
Billy Francis you should be coronated for such an ingenious comment
@@Human220dex if you used the word coronated because it contains the word corona then you too deserve... award
@@thesandwich7950 edited my comment ;)
These comments 🤣
Wherever you people are, stay safe and God bless everyone. 🙏🏻
So I’m nearly convinced now. Yusuf is one of the greatest drummers alive today. That kit sounds magic.
I agree super technical he got jazz in his blood...reminds me of art Blakey
I find The drumming is irritating. ruins every song. Its technically great. but it's not music its so boring and drones and drowns out the whole song. music is about melodies, not that incessant tap tapping snare. V disappointing
@@p__7000 if it didn't have drums the song would sound "empty"
@@p__7000 While I understand the general idea of your comment, I would like to ask for some perspective. Considering that drums cannot create "melodies" per se, or would be limited to tones coming from 3 toms and a snare, and could not sustain said tone for a considerable length of time, can you give me examples of a melodic drummer drumming over music such as this?
As a drummer, I offer my personal perspective: Technicality IS Melody when it comes to drumming. We could take a standard 2 & 4 rock drummer. The guitarists equivalent to this type of drummer would be a person playing the same 2 power chords on 1 & 3. Or we could take Larnell Lewis. His guitarists equivalent might be someone like Pat Metheney.
A drummer who is technical enough to control dynamics, display hand and foot control, insert regular and ghost notes, AND do it in the midst of a more atmospheric album such as this one would be considered incredibly musical by many musicians.
One last way I view the album is plentiful groovy drums *on display* within atmospheric melodies. Larnell Lewis drumming for Snarky Puppy could be described as plentiful drums *fitting within* note heavy music. Thomas Pridgen drumming for The Mars Volta can be described as a bunch of drums, *drumming* over a bunch of guitars and other loud stuff.
I enjoy all 3 ways these drummers played because all 3 added tasteful musicianship to great albums.
@@p__7000 drums definitely create melodies - the kick, snare, toms, hats and rides are all at different pitches, deliberately tuned - think of it as a countermelody to everything else going on and it adds richness, detail and interest. If you can't hear that way, then the more obvious way to hear would at least be rhythmic counterpoint to what's happening in the bass and lead melody. Back to your main idea, that you don't like the drumming: I think the drumming could either be interpreted as interesting or 'busy' depending on your preference. Certainly he doesn't allow for much "space" but since he seems to have a more 'driving' or 'intense' rhythmic idea he wants to express, I don't think he's wrong... the other option, I think, is more stereotypical "neo-soul", the "pocket loop" with very few details, this seems fresher to me.
ROCCO DESERVES TO BE MORE THAN JUST A FEATURE ON THIS
Right!?
Especially as it says this was based around the chords he came up with..
Within the context of Yussef and Toms upcoming collab record it makes sense to credit him as a feature
@@MultiSandman75 This was an improvised song, and one that Rocco started so although I do generally agree with you that doesn't really apply here.
I literally had a PHONE conversation over this with a friend of mine
pray for kyiv
this makes my quarantine groovy, here in Kyiv
Аминь, дядь🙏
Воистину
Фигел вообще от названия!
А я прийшла сюди дізнатись, чому саме "Kyiv"
It feels lyrical and touching in first place for me, but it also has groove, yeah. You don't just float around without spinnin' like that in space.
Some people are simply born to do certain things.
Yussef Dayes has certainly found his thing.
Don't discredit his hard work he must have put in an exceptional amount to get where he is.
@@fl4135 I'm not. Obviously it's not like he was born good at it, or predisposed to being this good. He was just born to learn it, study it, perfect it and getting to be exactly where he is. My point is: I feel like he's right where he's supposed to be.
@@ianlins2792 I wish everyone in this world could get to where theyre supposed to be x. x
@@starosta975 That's what I think, when I see these guys play.... (Unfortunately, for some of us, it's too late)
These people - counting the work they put in - are very fortunate.
Rocco - 'hey dad what bass pedals you got lying around?'
pino hands him oc2
a new bass legend is here to stay ladies and gentlemen
Should be a legal requirement for all bass players to have an OC2 on their board! Mine's been there about 5 years now and will likely never leave!
So he gets this chorus like sound just by playing harmonics with oc2? Sounds brilliant
Amen!!! Definitely a legend
wasimoto_ na the oc2 type sound is the sub octave around the 1:00 mark
@@wasimoto_7540 No I'm pretty sure on this board he has an OC2, a pitch shifter (he has a bigger pedal on this board, could be a POG2) and a chorus pedal (possibly the blue one furthest left) For the part he's playing in the opening, I'm pretty sure he has the pitch shifter and the chorus on, which creates the movement in the note. The OC2 can be heard at parts like 1:01 where a lower octave is added.
The drummer did a great job
This was improvised?!? Its my favorite song on the album. Genius.
I am over two years in Kyiv, love this city! The notes convey the rhythm and atmosphere of this beautiful city.
How can this be all improvised - it's just so rich and poised. Listened hundreds of times, the bridge is like the mind of three melted together.
"Fully improvised"
Got me rewatch it forever..
Three up-and-coming jazz legends. Y’all need to go on tour together PLEASE!!!
in some ways, they already are
Agreed
Living in Ukraine and listening this, plain awesome, period.
Почему трек Киев называется ?) может узнавал ) либо догадки есть какие ?)
Станислав Короткевич просто импровизация сыграна и записана в Киеве, отсюда и название)
hope you are okay, stay safe!
yussef always suprises me, some of the most tasteful playing ive heard in a looong time, stupdendous groove, tight frenetic fills that snap outta nowhere but roll in with grace!! propa player, big influence!!!! peace n love xx
Yung Igor My god, yes. This is superb drumming. In fact, superb seems like a cheap superlative. I’m wracking my brains to come up with something better. Maybe I should just listen to this one more time, instead.
Shouldnt be surprising by now bro tbh imo he's one of the best drummers alive atm
@@nnnnsaakadamanas218 ye agreed man, my life is better with his beats
Love his style. I love to play like this. Awesome stuff
'one of the best drummers alive today' lollll relax man he's got a good energetic style of drumming, but it always sounds the same and he never lets the music breath...he only plays single strokes and neglects more open stuff like paradiddles/linear beats/fills... his playing sounds stiff to me gets tiring after a while. Always overrated in these youtube comments lol. Still, he has great pocket and time
2:41 OHH MY DAYSS!!! God damn that sound is so beautiful
yes, i feel that too so much clean & pretty sound
Was really hoping this was gonna be a time stamp of Yussef Dayes doing a crazy fill
Oh my dayes*
His dynamic is just that crazy
constant replay !
This song really makes me dancing❤❤ Blessing for U all
the fact that this was improvised is just unbelievable to me
It's instantly forgettable..INSTANTLY. So it's notr a surprise to me. The drummer took over and not one memorable good lick or melody to be heard. just incessant tap tapping snare
@@p__7000 "Incessant tap tapping snare?" You didn't hear the solid baseline and the guitar playing or? I don't know if you play music, but do you mind posting something you think is better? Not only because I want to be exposed to good music, but you must have some pretty exacting standards if you are going to reduce Tom, Yussef, and Rocco's superb effort and sublime tunes to a criticism that I would have of someone fooling around at a music store somewhere. Because, I know we are all entitled to our opinions, but if you post something like that and don't follow it up with a few examples of some great music, you just come off as a hater.
@@alemayehusolomon941 Dude I don't have the time to list my vast eclectic taste in good music. Why waste my time on someone who clearly likes self indulgent pretentious music. I expect your music taste only goes back to 2019. You'd be lost

Whoa. This pulls so much jazz and funk history up to 2020, then kicks it forward. Three gifted musicians creating and responding to each other, and to the dancers and camera crew. Amazing.
OH MY GOD... The melody, the guitar, the drumming, the bass - This piece of music is just sexy and silky smooth. These musicians are true musical geniuses.
YUSSEF HALL OF FAME MATERIAL! 😍
Drove at the beach while listing to this and as the sun set with a cool breeze!! I just wanted time to just loop itself in that moment!
So so soooo good in every kinda way.

SOMEONE HELP ME, PLEASE! I can't stop listening to this. It's been 3 days on repeat! GAH!!!
That's exactly how Kyiv sounds❤️ Greetings from Kyiv
I damn near cried when I played this ❤️
Rocco's effects are so sick!
Humans, contrary to popular belief, are mindblowingly incredible creatures. What a moving experience. Woah. Can't imagine what it felt like in the room.
Silver lining of 2020 so far, at least this album is still getting released.

I swear I listen to this song multiple times a day!
The dancers improvised too!? and the videographer !? this is incredible. You see the shape they made at 2:09 like a crescent moon?! and the camera is flowing so seamlessly, the shot of the dancers coming in at the perfect time is amazing.

Roccos tone is on another level of bass tone. It’s great to have another generation of Palladino in the music world. God, next thing you know you’ll see Rocco taking up the bass role at multiple live shows for famous musicians just like his father did!

Tom Misch and Yussef out here spreading more grooves than corona
Agreed. I know nothing about playing an instrument, but, I've heard this composition a thousand times, and I get something different out of this music each time.
Mr. Rocco's bass has the most gorgeous sound.
Clean drumming, and Mr. Misch's improvisations are intelligent, as much as they are emotional.
This 3 guys should definitely form a band
"The Tom Misch Trio!"
add Charlie Stacey on the keys and the band's complete
Kabir Baruah Yes please
I want to like this twice.
Oh, wow. The track is dope. Good to know Kyiv still can inspire. Greets from Kyiv!

I discovered this album during quarantine. This is my favorite cut!
The man on the drums....🤯
Tom Misch Trio needs to happen
Omg that drummer🥵🤯🤯
I've been living in Kyiv for 6 months the culture is quite unique
Where did you spot the culture in Kyiv, man? It was completely vanished by communism and booze. I really struggle to understand, what foreigners like about this town. It's filled with rough and uneducated fucks, so there's very few things to be proud of: cheap mollys and pretty legit techno scene. That's a wrap, buddy )
This the type of tune I need to be hearing to heal. Full covid immunity right here
Love this song. Such a wonderful collaboration between these three gentlemen.
Who dislikes this? Who?? Those dislikes come from people that just couldn’t stand such greatness.
