Mariano is a pro and can make these types of moves. When the board flops a pair, the chances of your opponent having trips is low, so a big Q or a pocket pair usually win (against whales and tighter players). You can bluff them off of hands, and Taras knows that Mariano is capable of bluffing opponents, ESPECIALLY when he's in position. He was right, either Mariano had a K or had nothing (or a smaller pair). I would have folded, but I can see why he made the call.

Taras could be in the same exact spot with better bluff catchers such as AA QQ JJ etc. there's literally just zero reason for him to make that call, ever. Even with those better bluff catcher holdings, you should be strongly weighed against calling.
