@@paulsmallriver6066 exactly and they all blew it. KT seems to love relays because it gives her a chance to chase people down, something she never gets to do running an open race
My daughter was a quarter mile specialist, but at the district meet they had her run a mile which I thought was ridiculous. She ran anyway and the leader who was expected to win fell back after one lap, and the leader continually fell back and my daughter actually won the mile sprinting the last one hundred yards at a pace that couldn't be touched. I was so glad, she was able to beat all of her competition!
I coach a high school team. Mixing it up has often incredible results. Kids often pigeon-hole themselves as one kind of runner - we all do, to a degree. Your daughter's result is not entirely unexpected!
I won't let the commentator's poor performance take away from the outstanding job the young lady did bringing her team back from about 120m behind to win this race.
The problem that often happens with track commentating is that the commentator is also the camera person. Often, you either have atrocious camera work or bad commentating. It's rare to see both good in this type of meet.
At 12:34 you see the girl who lost first pulls off the track towards the infield. At 12:51 she emerges from behind the peak of the tent, still walking away and then standing alone with her back to the race At 13:15 she emerges top left of screen, gets a pat on the back from the photographer and returns her baton to the basket at 13:25, then turns around and walks back to the infield to be alone 13:40 her team, the team who came second, are nowhere to be seen while all the other teams hug and congratulate each other, even those who didn't finish on the podium
That team won the national DMR title indoor and outdoor four years in a row, and broke the national DMR record. And those girls ran together for years. Maybe they understood their friend and teammate more than some stranger on the internet and knew she needed a little space, that she did not need a snowflake stranger to be offended on her behalf. But whatever.
The video would have been much nicer without the commentary. I wonder what drove the coaching decision of not having Tuohy anchor. Good race by all the girls.
Probably hoping she would open enough a gap wide enough to take alot of pressure off the other girls. Didn't work out too well. Though I do think that having Tuohy on the anchor would have been a better decision.
@@MC473428 KT is about -8 to -9 seconds per lap vs. her anchor, so they would have had a good chance of winning if they switched distances. Not a sure thing, though.

With no footage of a running clock. With numerous other people paying little attention to the race, and some jackass in a cart nearly blocking the race. Oh yeah, real class event.
Tuohy, the North Rockland leadoff runner at the end of the season ran 4:33.87 for a US High School mile record, leading start to finish, winning by about 18 seconds. I think her coach got the priorities correct.
