I’m looking forward to Friday when Shawn finally reveals what happened to his eye. Love how they both do the show like it’s not there. Lol. Love the show guys! Go Lions!
Fond memories of the Mirage. I worked at the Golden Nugget in 1989 and discovered Steve Wynn offered GN employees jobs at the Mirage first. Very very special place. He changed how hotels are built today.
I remember when the Mirage opened. I had stayed in The Castaways property on that site before it was built. Mirage was sold out the first trip to Vegas after it opened so I stayed at the Sands. It was great playing in the Sands daily slot tournament which was a set of machines right across the street from the volcano. Kinda cool hearing and seeing it go off while giving a go on the slot tournament. Will miss the Mirage after many, many stays there.
Gonna miss the the pool the most! Old style VEGAS! The last time I stayed for 5 days as a gold MGM member with no resort fees at 22 bucks a night. What a great memory! Im gonna miss Bill the bartender who had worked for the Mirage since it opened.
Wow, Shawn, did you get touched up at Virgin trying to get ice cream? I'm sure you got a good Vegas fight story, you gotta share. There's no way you can just pretend that that shiner just doesn't exist. A personal Vegas story is gold for your channel. Spill!
Gonna miss Mirage. Loved staying there over the last couple decades. The pool ( Oasis especially) was the best. I’ve always had great experiences with the staff. Will miss them too.
When I was young and looking for value in Vegas, I frequently stayed at TI and spent a lot of time hanging out at the Mirage sports book. Have a lot of good memories in that space including an NCAA tournament
What's up guys! Great show per usual. I agree. Two different incidents here. I'm currently exploring Albuquerque, New Mexico, and staying at Sandia Resort & Casino tonight. Great Pueblo themed casino with $10, 6 deck shoes 3/2 Blackjack! Super cheap food with no sales tax. I had two 1/3 pound burgers with everything, and a grilled cheese, total of $18 (I'm a heavy eater and been on the road all day). Recommend! Go get your Tropicana dirt clogs everyone! See you on the next one.
Good show fellas. Appreciate the updates. Curious Shawn do you do your narrated videos anymore? Miss those. 😢. Would love updates on the Tropicana implosion. Thanks
Loved the Bat bit! Had a baby bat fly into my room at Laughlin's Riverside. Tried to get it out, found it on the curtain when the Sun came out, looked like a Silver Dollar
I did a little research and found an interesting result.... I researched the dates of the last 14 hotel implosions in Vegas dating back to 1993. I found that 11 of the last 14 implosions took place on a Tuesday. They break down like this: Riviera (Towers 2&3): August 16th, 2016 - Tuesday Riviera (Tower 1): June 14th, 2016 - Tuesday New Frontier: November 13th, 2007 - Tuesday Stardust: March 13th, 2007 - Tuesday Boardwalk: May 9th, 2006 - Tuesday Bourbon Street: February 14th, 2006 - Tuesday Castaways: January 11th, 2006 - Wednesday Desert Inn: October 23rd, 2001 - Tuesday El Rancho: October 3rd, 2000 - Tuesday Aladdin: April 27th, 1998 - Monday Hacienda: December 31st, 1996 - Tuesday Sands: November 26th, 1996 - Tuesday Landmark: November 7th, 1995 - Tuesday Dunes: October 22nd, 1993 - Friday Broken into a percentage, that's %78.5 of hotel implosions taking place on a Tuesday As you mentioned these implosions take place late at night (early morning). So if I was a betting man, which I think it's fair to assume that I am if I am following MTM Vegas, I would put money my on the implosion taking place in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 8th... The permit dates of Sept. 30th - October 8th gives them 7 full days to load in the explosives, get get all the safety precautions set and in place, time for a final approval, and then October 8th for execution.... I've already booked my room at Excalibur just in case.
Never got to see the volcano in person, we tried to go our last time in town but it was closed. My wife and I at least got to see the fountains though so that was cool. You are so right about the toilets, as a tall guy having a toilet next to the tub sucks LOL.
I low key loved The Mirage. I won a jackpot there. They gave me $150 in dining credits when they changed to Hard Rock. The atrium, check in desk aquarium, pool area and volcano were all iconic. I’m glad I got to stay there a couple years ago before it switched from MGM. Loved getting a Dole Whip at the pool bar. I’m excited to see how it changes.
One of the things that seems absent from the discussion regarding the Mirage closure is all the unfortunate de-theming that happened in the early 2000s. Google the original pictures of the lobby and the atrium. They really stripped a lot of its character away long before it closed. And the original volcano was amazing. The amount of water coming out of the volcano... You actually couldn't even see the rock underneath. MGM was never a friend to this place. Sad to see it go... But a lot of it went away in the early 2000s.
Wow! I loved that entryway into the Mirage room! Walking down those cramped halls into most resort rooms is just so depressing to me…too “cruise- shippy”.
Regarding Mirage rooms: I haven't stayed there in many years, but my two stays were a king room, and what i think they called a Tower King room. If i remember correctly, the living/bed space, overall square footage, was exactly the same. But the tower bathroom was bigger, had a tub, and a glass shower stall next to the BR door. I didn't pay attention to see if the room entryway was narrower. Maybe, as Shawn speculates, they're going to reconfigure all kings into what was Tower King. (There are RUclips resort tower king room tours... you can see that the entryway is very narrow)
I was at the Mirage yesterday morning and was pretty dead. Many of their machines were turned off. I also saw a video of a woman last night winning $200,000 of that $1.6 million jackpot while sitting at the blackjack table. She had to be escorted by security. Mirage will be missed. By the way, what's up with the blackeye?
I was there the same night you were there!! The footage that you showed at the pool the first one you walk past an orange dress on the ground by the edge of the pool-that was my dress!!! This might be the closest I ever get to filling the 'meet miles to memories' square on my vegas bingo card. Lol
Sad to see the volcano go, but trust, the guitar tower will be the biggest, baddest roadside attraction you’ve ever seen! The Hard Rock is making big moves here. Can’t wait to see the final result
Pretty good pizza deal, especially with the $0.50 topping! Out of their 22 locations, that's the only _Afters Ice Cream_ location outside California! There's an Afters in my town, but it's downtown and almost 7 miles from my house so I don't make it there very often. I might have to give Virgin another chance. If I was an owner, I would make signs like that, just to trigger the PC/Karen crowds! I watched the last 2 Volcano Shows on Lydia In Vegas' Channel last night. I hope Hard Rock has more up their sleeve than just a giant guitar! I've seen some of the waterfalls and other water features at their other properties, so I'm hoping there's a real vision behind it. I have a feeling they're going to run into problems converting the existing building into the guitar though, maybe even to a Fontainebleau type drag out opening! I think that's why the slow transition was scraped for a total closure!
I don't know why, but I feel sad that the Mirage hotel is closing after 34 years and will be rebranded as the Hard Rock with guitar-shaped tower, and I wish all the former employees at the Mirage best of luck in their new job opportunities in other places. 😭💔😭💔
Just returned from RW where we used the valet, $35/day, because we just did not want to drag our luggage from self parking, $18/ day, in this killer hot weather!!!
“Who steals a Range Rover (at Boulder Station) and then goes to gamble?” ……..uhhhhhh: the singers in The Chainsmoker’s “Closer” from their roommates, that’s who! XD Couldn’t resist! 😉😅
No idea. I think the Wynn and Westgate stations should open any time but I haven’t heard anything and I just searched and didn’t find any announcements.
i had my best craps experience ever at the Mirage... and i didn't even win. the dealer thought he had shorted me $5 a few rolls back. he told the boxman who proceeded to walk over to me with two green ($25) cheques. very classy crew...
Hey Guys. Just want to share some MIRAGE trivia from a MIRAGE MONSTER. I stayed there about 12 times after that remodel you're looking at. Super stupid trivia -- 1. Back before the bolted the windows shut (post Mandalay Bay shooting), you could walk right in the room, grab their leather 'Welcome to Mirage' book, open the window, push the window all the way out, and that book fit PERFECTLY in it -- to keep the window from giggling and in place. 2. My knees still remember how close they were to the door while seated on that john (and I'm not tall), and my butt still remembers how uncomfortable the toidy seats were. I was a little overweight then but I can't imagine a fattie sitting on those toidey seats without... well... let's just say you better have pretty good aim. 3. When going to sleep, I'd stock pile the decorative pillows all the bottom and sides of the doors. Unfortunately morning CHA-CHUNKS of maids opening doors could still be heard.
Shawn, you just love Virgin Hotel! That pizza and ice cream looked really good, though. What does that say about the Sphere that they book acts for a few nights, and then there are many nights available for additional dates. I'm still stunned at how high ticket prices remain.
Shawn, pizza at Forte is $4.50 not $7.50 ! (at least on their website). It's owned by the owner of Ferraro's so good pedigree . It's a more than decent slice, about on par with pizza at the Palms, and better than Metro IMHO.
About the license plate switch. I got back to airport parking once and my plate had been stolen. While reporting it to the police they checked and found it was on another car still in the lot. The officer said it was on a stolen vehicle. He said they often let them sit for a day or two to see if they've been tracked.
Paris has always had poor room / upstairs security - literally anyone can get up there. We stopped staying there after we had an ongoing incident outside of our room in the middle of the night (3am). We called security and they Never Came. Pretty bad / scary.
So, the restaurant at Palms has a half price markdown except for a two-hour window? (6:30 to 8:30) Seems like a great deal, especially the 8:30 to 10pm time frame. So many happy hours are late afternoon/pre dinner time. I don't understand why restaurants in Las Vegas close so early. Especially if you are going to see a show, it would be nice to have a relaxing dinner afterwards.
A bat flew into Sean's eye. They said at the Mirage they will be opening up ceilings because they are actually higher and have cat walks up there from the old days of security. That will be different to have high ceilings in there.
Something just doesn't add up about Hard Rock completely closing Mirage. If they were just breaking even, let alone turning a profit they would keep it open during remodel and hold their nose.
What was the reason for turning off the slot machines early at Mirage? Makes no sense. You would think that the casino would want to squeeze every last penny out of visitors.
I know they had to clear out some progressives, but I don't think that was it. Some machines had static jackpots set so that wasn't an issue. Other places they had one machine off with the same type of machine on next to it (Megabucks for example) so I really don't know. I have tried to find an answer but no one seems to know exactly why other than to clear out the progressives. I suspect it might have to do with owned vs. leased machines as well but you would think they want them all on until the end.
Ah that would make sense. I know when I drove in Australia and New Zealand I would like triple check before turning because it took a bit to get used to the other side and I did make some wide turns. 😂
Thanks Shawn and Mark for your great video this week! Do you happen to know if there is an implosion date for Tropicana? Keep getting October 2nd on the rumors. Mirage will always be great place in my heart as a kid born in 90s, I definitely had great memories with family there. The atrium always smelled so good for some reason and fresh. Volcano is a such a good attraction and feels like something out of Disneyland with its effects. Definitely miss the Mirage!
Went through valet at the Vdara to pick up the van we had rented. I was past the Luxor when I got a call from valet, which apparently they had given me the wrong vehicle. It was the same type and color van, plus it was in the evening. The only thing I noticed that was strange was the seat being pulled forward. Chalked that up to possibly a shorter valet driver in it. Returned it, which they apologized and comp my valet for the stay. The only time I've committed grand theft auto and didn't even notice.
Mirage is so dark without those machines on! I am heartbroken, this beloved resort and volcano going away too soon. The best pool on the strip? Maybe. The only volcano I've ever seen? Definitely! So long Mirage, you will be missed. I'm dying to see the fish tank dry, please see if you can get some pics
It’s sad that mirage is closing. It will definitely be missed. I think the volcano will be missed ! It’s sad that in Vegas they just level casinos/ resorts that have stood the test of time rather than preserving history!
Such is the way of Vegas, though. I’m not sure what was demolished to build the Mirage. The Dunes was demolished when Treasure Island opened; Bellaggio opened on the former Dunes properties. There has always been a slow but constant churn. The only constant is change.
@@mmasque2052 The Dunes wasn't where Treasure Island is now. It was south of Caesars Palace across Flamingo Rd. Or do you mean the Dunes was demolished BECAUSE it was the same company as Treasure Island? And I don't think anyone misses the Dunes or the Frontier. The atmosphere in those two casinos was miserable.
It’s the American way Look at how LA downtown was build. They leveled thousands of houses, all the rail cars and started building the current downtown we recognize today. At least here they kept SOME of its history
The mirage rooms looked ok and were clean as they could be, but they STANK to high heaven with those rotting carpets. Super excited for the guitar hotel to come, even with the long wait!
@@Milestomemories yes you definitely got lucky then. I stayed twice in the last six months, and both times got put into a room that stunk to high heaven. The first time it smelled like mold and mildew so bad that when management came up they even made a 🤢 face and said "oh yeah this is bad" and moved me immediately. The second time I went, the room stunk like rotting feet. Got moved to a room with a freshly steamed carpet - so fresh it was soggy wet the whole first day. I just cracked a window open and wore slippers, thankful it didn't smell bad.
Just a short note about the Tropicana demolition. One of the reason it is taking so long is it was built at a time a lot of asbestos was used for fire retardant. You must do a lot of sealing off areas and provide proper worker protection and proper disposal of the asbestos waste. That is one of the reasons the building is see through. The interior walls most likely all had to be removed due to asbestos in them. I am sure they have figured out how the new stadium will fit the land area. As for the casino development it most likely will depend upon either Bailey’s getting the financing for a new resort or GLPI the land owner getting a new tenant for the casino portion of the development. GLPI. Did just come to an agreement with Bailey’s to finance the building of their new Chicago casino.
The Trop looks like the abandoned Emerald River Resort here in Laughlin! Minus the graffiti. Also, I'm sure you guys are aware, but I haven't heard you talk about it.......Dana White is bringing the UFC to The Sphere in September......He said yesterday they've already spent $17 million and a lot more will be spent to make this the most incredible combat sports event in history. I can't wait!! And Mark, once again....Stop hating on Laughlin's tropical atrium!
I'm just confused. The mirage was old, but just needed an update. There was already a Hard Rock Hotel and casino in Vegas and IT FAILED!!! What makes them think that a redo will be any different? It'll probably just destroy the Mirage , just like they did once already. The Mirage was the start if the destination resort mega hotels. With something for the whole family to do and see and not just a gambling place with a kitschy stage show thrown in like other hotels had. People who had never gambled came to see the Sigfried & Roy show as well as the dolphins and the volcano. That WON'T be the case for this redo hotel.
Every time I stayed at the Mirage the pool was closed for some reason, I said the dolphins are swimming, can I go over there? apparently swimming with the dolphins is not a thing. :(
I love the idea of selling merch the same colors as the carpets in the casino. Robes, hoodies, T shirts, purses etcwould be great. Shawn did you get a piece of carpet from the Tropicana?
LOL i love the fake sign for the mirage by vital vegas! with all the chaos they have had with thier promotion etc YES we know its fake (apart from SOME news outlets 🤣) BUT Vital vegas are spot on with it tbh as watching your vids of the slot promotion on the progresive jackpots that had to go before closing it was a total cluster F**k on mirages part and cause ultimate chaos with half the slots being shut down, no time limit on the ones that were open so folks hogged them ETC! KUDOS TO VITAL VEGAS FOR DOING THIS ..EVEN THOUGH IT WAS FAKE IT SAID IT AS IT WAS TBH GUYS!
That lady on the billboard is batting her eyes at us! Is it just me, or does it sound like that lady lost her valet ticket somewhere in the hallway and is trying to take advantage of the hotel? The swirly ceiling tiles in the Mirage suffocates me. Speaking of ice cream, knowing you guys travel to casinos around the country, have you ever had Braum's ice cream in Oklahoma? There's one near any casino in Oklahoma and there is no better quality ice cream.
I think they could have updated the trop. I honestly think that the stadium would have been much better on the circus circus property. Plus clowns are creepy
I have confidence that Hard Rock will do a good job renovating the Mirage. I have been going, to Atlantic City more as the Hard Rock there is very aggressive with giving away comps. The Hard Rock in Atlantic City was also renovated from the former Trump Taj Mahal Hotel, it is a very nice hotel. The Hard Rock in Atlantic City and the 3 Caesar casinos give away room comps like candy in the offseason there Sept to June on Sundays to Thursdays. Those casinos are really going after the low rollers now that Vegas is concentrating on higher margin gamblers. You do not have to gamble that much to get room comps, gifts, free play. I think it was Hard Rock that initiated the competition for low end gamblers so Caesars casinos and MGM and the others are also giving away comps much easier than Vegas.
I’ve hiked the Lake Mead Railroad Trail and there are hundreds of them. As you say they don’t bother you. Kind of freaky going through those tunnels though.
@Milestomemories I live on 7 acres in the country, and in the evening, we would have hundreds of them swooping around eating mosquitoes. They were welcome visitors!
I’m looking forward to Friday when Shawn finally reveals what happened to his eye. Love how they both do the show like it’s not there. Lol. Love the show guys! Go Lions!

That lighting made it look like Shawn got into one last fight at Mirage before filming.
Did Criss Angel punch Shawn in the eye?

No someone fought him for his slot machine at Mirage.
$20 it’s from falling on a broken Vegas escalator
Someone kicked Shawn while he was on the ground admiring casino carpet from close up

I did a little research and found an interesting result.... I researched the dates of the last 14 hotel implosions in Vegas dating back to 1993. I found that 11 of the last 14 implosions took place on a Tuesday. They break down like this:
Riviera (Towers 2&3): August 16th, 2016 - Tuesday
Riviera (Tower 1): June 14th, 2016 - Tuesday
New Frontier: November 13th, 2007 - Tuesday
Stardust: March 13th, 2007 - Tuesday
Boardwalk: May 9th, 2006 - Tuesday
Bourbon Street: February 14th, 2006 - Tuesday
Castaways: January 11th, 2006 - Wednesday
Desert Inn: October 23rd, 2001 - Tuesday
El Rancho: October 3rd, 2000 - Tuesday
Aladdin: April 27th, 1998 - Monday
Hacienda: December 31st, 1996 - Tuesday
Sands: November 26th, 1996 - Tuesday
Landmark: November 7th, 1995 - Tuesday

Broken into a percentage, that's %78.5 of hotel implosions taking place on a Tuesday

In the Golden Nugget. Hopefully the construction is finished because when we visited it looked kind of sad with some construction walls.

Agree with your assessment of Mirage facility.
Shawn has a story for his 👀 but it’s “what happened in Vegas stays in Vegas” 😎
About half of the rooms at Mirage already have the larger bathroom with separate shower. They are called Tower rooms. What you had was a Resort room.
I wouldn’t necessarily say half. Only floor 24 and 25 have the tower king rooms with the extended bath.
This has been a wild and crazy week

So the guitar will be outside of the Mirage and they aren't imploding the Mirage?
Correct - guitar will be out where Volcano etc. is

50% off a big number might still end up a big number
@@tomvu1470 That is true 😂
A bat flew into Sean's eye. They said at the Mirage they will be opening up ceilings because they are actually higher and have cat walks up there from the old days of security. That will be different to have high ceilings in there.
Something just doesn't add up about Hard Rock completely closing Mirage. If they were just breaking even, let alone turning a profit they would keep it open during remodel and hold their nose.
What was the reason for turning off the slot machines early at Mirage? Makes no sense. You would think that the casino would want to squeeze every last penny out of visitors.
I think many of them were the progressives that they had to pay out on already and didn't want to add to the total etc. is my guess.
The Jeep drivers look British, which is consistent with wanting to corner on the wrong side of the road.
RIP Mirage - Only the good die young! 🙏❤️
Criss Angel will stand in front of the Tropicana implosion and claim it’s one of his tricks 😅
So much history lost but alas we move forward. It is behind a black curtain unfortunately.
The new guitar hotel will be better
Stardust was the same way before it was knocked down just barebones
It’s the American way
Look at how LA downtown was build. They leveled thousands of houses, all the rail cars and started building the current downtown we recognize today.
At least here they kept SOME of its history
Man must be competitive for that carpet blanket
I'm with you Mark I cant do those size crowds
Not enjoyable at all
The mirage rooms looked ok and were clean as they could be, but they STANK to high heaven with those rotting carpets. Super excited for the guitar hotel to come, even with the long wait!
I guess I got lucky. No smell in my room which is a win these days in Vegas. 😂
I want a virgin carpet hoodie
I'm sure the old stuff will be replaced by something else I can't afford.
Has anyone asked Chevy Chase what he thinks?
There gonna cover the Tropicana with those fancy tarp sheets that look like a building
I'd rather stay at the Wynn with a great view, the Mirage is outdated and Vegas needs change to stay current or why go there?
Mirage was pure madness, I was there two days ago.
That burger looked kinda raw.
Yeah we plan to talk about the Chicago deal on the next show. I think that definitely makes it more likely GLPI will come to a similar deal for Vegas.
Hi sisters! MGM resorts will bring back Mirage @ Mandalay Bay!
does shawn have a black eye?
Sean was battling the masses in the Mirage
The land at the mirage looks a lot bigger than fenway park.
The Jeep accident looks more like AI
The Trop looks like the abandoned Emerald River Resort here in Laughlin! Minus the graffiti.
Also, I'm sure you guys are aware, but I haven't heard you talk about it.......Dana White is bringing the UFC to The Sphere in September......He said yesterday they've already spent $17 million and a lot more will be spent to make this the most incredible combat sports event in history. I can't wait!!
And Mark, once again....Stop hating on Laughlin's tropical atrium!
Love Laughlin - only make a joke about it since the way Shawn sold the atrium to me on our way there. More about that than anything
@@markostermann6632 I know, it’s not our biggest attraction. That’s funny!
Who punched Shawn:
Vegas Starfish, Vegas Pauly C or Vital Vegas? 👀
Leave vegas starfish alone, she's busy complaining about Las Vegas!
By Rio was still my favorite of the options
They have done great work at both the properties I have been to of theirs so I do think it is in good hands.
January 17-18 and 24-25 are not slow weekends. That is when the NFL playoffs are. Lots of people head to Vegas for those playoff games in January.
Jan and Feb are historically the slowest months in Vegas, even with football. We'll have to see how they sell compared to the first go around.
Bats won't hurt you. Leave them alone.
Uber surge prices made them commandeer the Range Rover!😂😂
Love the Mirage pool area, stayed there twice.
I made love in the mirage pools
Build the Oakland A stadium at Primm and build a brand new Tropicana.
I will miss that volcano I still miss sirens of TI
I miss both TI shows. Really loved the original too.
Where is the Bronze Mermaid bust going?
The Oyo bedbugs will get a free show!
