Love your channel Brian, I've used many of your "How to" videos to service my bike, by far the best instructional videos I've seen on youtube. Many thanks
Thank you for watching and your feedback Shaun Tiger1050! Glad we could help with our videos, we try to make them very easy to follow and with simple tools, etc. ~Aubrey
Thanks for doing these awesome how-to videos. I have an 06 R6 and these DEFINITELY help me out when wrenching on my own bike. It would be awesome to see other general maintenance videos like coolant flush, fork oil change, etc.
I have a 2007 R6. The service manual says specifically NOT to screw the dipstick in when checking the level. It says to just drop it in the hole until it makes contact, then pull it back out. Thoughts?
My thoughts are that makes very little sense. The 2008 R6 takes 2.75 Quarts of oil when the filter is changed. When checking the oil after changing the oil and filter (adding 2.75 quarts) and checking the oil with seating the dipstick it reads full on the money. Reading the procedure to check the oil it completely contradicts itself IMO.
What would you recommend for my 08R6 the manual says 10W30 but, I didn't see the motul 300V in 10w30. I seen that you guys have a 10W40. is this something I can place in mine?
Interestingly, my bike manual says not to screw in the dipstick to check the level - I guess it changes by manufacturer but worth checking as it does make a difference. Notice you didn't change the crush washer - I do but I think it's probably overkill. Love your videos - clean pro work well explained - thanks.
When you install the oil filter how far past first contact do you snug it down? I went somewhere around 3/4 turn with just my hands no oil filter wrench and it seemed to be tight at that point. I went that way as that is how I was always taught to do it on my cars, 3/4 to 1 turn past the contact. I read one write up that said to only go a 1/4 turn which made me think I went to far. I also use a little oil on the rubber gasket and put about half full of oil in the filter. I lost a little as well when installing it. Tried to screw it on pretty fast but had some trouble getting the threads to take at first, mostly likely because I was rushing. Hopefully they went on straight but I don't recall any resistance to it once I got the threads started.
Quick question. Is there a reason why you didn't replace the 20 cent washer on the oil drain plug? I know for cars you should replace it with every oil change to make sure it doesn't leak as they change shape every time pressure is applied. Did you change it and not show it on video or did you just leave it? Thanks!
No I have not had that problem personally but have heard of it and been at the track when there was an issue. We started using Hi-Flo filters on our bikes a year or so ago. It is also important to note you need to be careful if you use a wrench to tighten the filter. If you use too much force it can cause an issue. Best practice would be to tighten the filter by hand and only using the nut to safety wire the filter and remove it when you change the oil. - Van
Hi there STG, i just wanted to point out a couple of things: First, always let the oil flow out of the engine on the side stand, the oil drain-nut was design-positioned for that...second: people, CHECK THE OWNERS MANUAL (!!!!!) to see if your oil dip-stick is supposed to be screwed back in to check the oil or not!!! on the video, the friendly dude screws the dip stick back in to check the oil, after that i just checked the owners manual for my bike, and on my bike it says you are NOT supposed to screw it in to check the oil, but to just touch it againt the surface. I am not sure about the R6, but def check your owners manual to be sure! cheers mate.
Question , I want to start doing my own oil changes and I notice that some say 300,700,1100 what does that number stand for?? I understand viscosity like 10w-40
i love your video thank you so much i have one question i recently bought a gsxr 750 and i did the oil change according to the manual it says 2.5 liter (if i change the filter as well). while on online forums they say 3.3 liter i already put 3 liter and it doesnt hit the "L" mark on the oil level inspection window. I dont want to put over the limit so what would you recommend?
Make sure you are referencing your owners manual for this to ensure you are checking the level properly. Once you verify you are checking it properly I would add oil until you are in the proper range through the inspection window. - Van
Hands down best instructional videos for doing work on a bike! Van is there any way that you can do a video on how to do a coolant flush? The other ones on youtube aren't very good.
when checking the oil on most metric bikes it is done upright and level ,and on your model is done with the dipstick seated, not screwed in. Look in your owners manual it will give you the proper amount of oil needed.
Inspect it and if there is an issue replace it. I have never had to replace the drain plug gasket on any of the bikes I have changed the oil on to this point. All of the years I spent servicing cars I would say it was very uncommon to change the drain plug gasket on any of the modern vehicles. They are intended to be reused. As long as there is no damage you should not have an issue reusing the drain plug gasket.
It's cool that this video came out since I have to do my 1st oil change on my YZF-600R in the next couple of days. I paid for the 1st oil change at the dealership during it's initial valve clearance check and they charged me $120.00 for the Oil Change! I was like WTF?!?! I'll be propping up the bike with front/rear stands, and adjusting the chain while I'm at it. Not looking forward to all the fasteners (looks like 18 or more) that I have to remove just to get the lower body work off. >_
hello i took my gas tank off also, but i confused the vapor lines and cant remember which one goes where, could you please show me the correct way. thanks
Quick question. I did my first oil change a little before 600 miles as per yamaha recommendation in the manual for my 08 r6. When should have the 2nd oil change done.
Run the engine for a few minutes before you pull the filter and drain plug. Just don't run it too long or the oil will be really hot. Just long enough for the vehicle to begin to warm up
Hey thanks for the video, i enjoy watching your videos on how to's :) but my only question is , i have 2009 R6 and the owners manual is telling that when you are checking the oil level you DON'T screw in the dip stick , you just place it on the threads
Two things : How does that wire stop the filter from coming loose and in my bike manual it says you have to torque the filter and drain plug. Any reason why you don't.
The safety wire will help to prevent fasteners, caps and filters from coming loose. To be clear it is no replacement for tightening the fasteners properly. I do not use a torque wrench because I have over 30 years of experience with 20 of them spent as a professional (automotive) so I have really good feel for proper torque. If you are unfamiliar then it is not a bad idea to use a torque wrench. IMO there is no need to torque an oil filter, just tighten until it is seated (stops turning when the gasket is fully compressed). Drain plug is a spot where you could use the torque wrench if you like, most riders do not. We offer drain plugs that are drilled for safety wire and oil filters that are also drilled for safety wire. Installing these even on a street bike is not a bad idea IMO. The safety wire adds a little piece of mind and is a nice preventative measure. What I do on my Harley Street 750 is, Put some oil inside the Filter. Enough so it doesn't make much of a mess. Install. When I am done filling, I hit the Run Stop Switch. And Crank the engine a little bit. To Prime the Pump and fill the Filter. Reset the Switch and run it for a minute. Check the Level. Harley is a little funny. As they have a Cold and Hot Fill lines.

Hi I have a gsxr 600 2005 and was wondering if you would recommend i use 10W-50 oil? I am using the bike for street riding?
No I would not suggest 10w-50 for that bike. I would use 10W-40 in your bike. - Van
@sportbiketrackgear ok thank you. I have 10w-40 oil on the bike right now and was just wondering. But I will be using 10w-40 and not changing it.

What kind of oil would you recommend for the 400 ninja

Whats the besr oil to use for the Yamaha Big Bang 09-14 models thanks ?
What do you think of aftermarket magnetic drain plug replacements? Do they really pull metal filings out of oil that a good oil filter wouldn't catch?
My thoughts are that makes very little sense. The 2008 R6 takes 2.75 Quarts of oil when the filter is changed. Whats your opinion on reusing the oil drain plug washer?
What oil type of oil should I use for street bike gsxr600 2016 and filter
I use Motul 300v Full Synthetic in all of our bikes. It costs a few bucks more but is the absolute best insurance you can get for your motor. - Van
What brake clean you use? and does that has the potential of damaging seals?
Hi...Van.... IS that Necessary Use Engine Flush In Every Oil Change.....? Is It Harm Ful for Bikes?
I would never use engine flush. - Van
Thanks Bryan I just wanted to a nice clean job!😀
The best way to get the bodywork off is to use T Handles. Standard L Shaped allen wrenches do not work well for bodywork removal.
What size is the wrench you are using to drain and unscrew the oil and filter?
Interestingly, my bike manual says not to screw in the dipstick to check the level - I guess it changes by manufacturer but worth checking as it does make a difference. Notice you didn't change the crush washer - I do but I think it's probably overkill. Love your videos - clean pro work well explained - thanks.
