    Bach! You can never go wrong with him! Also late 50's and early 60's recordings are (almost) always superb.

      I think this period was a special time, when the appetite for good classical music conicided with the both the technical skills of the record companies and the musical skills of the performers of the day. The only rival to LPs for people unable to go to a live concert was the radio, and you had to have whatever was broadcast. How things have changed. Now there's You Tube! ;o)

    Superb sounding vinyl, Bob! Embarrassingly better than many modern recordings! 😮

      Indeed it is Rui! The producers and engineers back in the day really knew what they were doing. Just a guess, but this may have been a Kingsway Hall recording (though I didn't notice any tube train rumble, so maybe not . . ;o)

    Hi Bob, in this mad world of ours this music is wholly appropriate. Majestic and soul nourishing, gorgeous music. All music lovers should have at least one piece of Bach in their collections. Thank you

      You're most welcome Nigel! The other two concertos on the record may get a turn later! I was playing Bach's "48" the other day (ripped from my CDs, not vinyl) - Bernard Roberts on piano - and the invention and feeling is simply wondrous. I might turn to the organ music soon (only downloads, not vinyl - Grrr!)

      My first introduction to Bach was this piece of music on a Deutsche Grammophon Cassette (remember them?). I loved it then and love it now. I do have a quite a bit of his music, both on CD and Vinyl but it's this Concerto I love the most, and perhaps the Brandenberg's!

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  6 лет назад

      Ah - cassettes! I never bought many pre-recorded cassettes but was always doing vinyl rips for the car and portable players - and mix tapes for friends! If you've read my blog piece for this video you'll know that the slow movement of the Bach double concerto was a set piece for my 'O' Level music - and my parents bought the mono version of this record (which I still have) for me to study it. I was more into The Beatles at the time, though. Lol! But Bach did make an impression though . . .

      @@nigelmasters8552 PolyGram (now Universal) often used BASF CrO2 stock for their pre-recorded cassettes so they sounded decent on good decks.

    Nice thing about the MP300, and MP500 that doesn’t get mentioned very often in reviews is how silent the background of the music becomes. Something I noticed immediately when I switched over to it.

    Wonderful sound on this video as always Bob. I have a Yamaha PX-2 which I enjoy very much, especially considering the ease of use it provides. I know that Japanese direct drive turntables don't get a lot of respect in the audiophile press, but I always thought the PX-2 sounded very good.

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment Tim. Direct Drive turntables got a lot of bad press back in the day which was a great shame because the better models sound really good. The British hifi press had a downer on technology, prefering rubber band driven stuff build in sheds by enthusiasts rather than big corporations. I currently have four DD tables (from Technics, Sony, Kenwood and this Yamaha) and one idler drive (301). Not a belt drive in sight ;o)

    Präzise und zugleich lyrische Interpretation dieses perfekt komponierten Konzerts mit seidigen Töne der Solovioline und gut harmonisierten Töne des ganzen Kammerorchesters. Der zweite Satz klingt außergewöhnlich schön! Die Tonqualität ist auch erstaunlich hoch als eine Aufnahme von fast sechzig Jahre vor. Alle Töne werden zweifellos perfekt reproduziert. Echt super!

    Question for Bob Wood and MrVinylObsessive (2 of the best sounding Vinyl channels).
    Did the RUclips compression have a big impact (in HD of course) in comparison with your listen session directly on the vinyl ?

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  6 лет назад +1

      YT compression definitely takes the edge off the sound compared to hearing it live in the room! I'm sure Rui (Mr V-O) would agree. Thanks for your comments about our channels - Rui's was one that got me started in the first place!

    It's Pre-DMM so it retains the vintage analog quality as did EMI's 1984 Boult V-W symphonies reissue.

    What a recording, what a vinyl rip. Thank you, Bob. After listening to your channel, I bought my Nagaoka MP300 (mounted on a MoFi Studiodeck) and this very recording. I love this combo. Now I'm heading for the Graham Slee Accession ;-).
    Bob, which power supply do you use? The PSU1 or the Enigma??
    Thank you and keep up the good work, I appreciate it a lot!
    Best regards from Germany.

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  3 года назад

      Thank you for your comments! The MP-300 is a great performer isn't it? As is the Accession! The MM version of the Accession I use has the PSU1. My Accssion MC uses the Enigma PS. My understanding is that the Enigma was designed for the MC version and that benefits with other phono amps are not so obvious. Have you read any of the posts about this on Graham Slee's forum? www.hifisystemcomponents.com/forum/forums.html You can always ask Graham directly - he's willing to help and won't just give you a sales pitch! As you obviously like classical music have you visited my Classics and Vinyl channel yet? ruclips.net/channel/UCoOiV11be6CgesXPN40EPKQ

      @@MusicAndVinyl thanks for your answer, Bob. I also understood, that the PSU-Enigma was designed for the Accession MC. Sometimes there're second-hand-Accession-MM's with a PSU-Enigma and sellers always underline the benefits of the Enigma over the PSU-1 powering the Accession-MM..
      I already discovered your classic-channel - what an effort!!!

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  3 года назад

      @@sebastianbachert9528 The Graham Slee forum runs a loan scheme for the products - you only pay for shipping both ways. There's a link in the description to this, and it operates in the EU. So you could borrow an Enigma PS and see if it gives any benefits with an Accession MM. When I first discovered Graham's products I took advantage of this scheme a lot ;o) Trying out equipment in your own system is far preferable to a demo at a dealer. There's no "hard sell" involved either. Just send it back after a couple of weeks.
      And thank you for looking at my Classical channel. I hope there's music there you like ;o)
