Thanks for good instructions. I cut my template at the red line and just hold it towards the Remi blind and marked with a pencil, that made it a bit easier to see where to cut.
Just found you channel and so glad I did, not seen these type of locks before and think they are an excellent idea, not too keen on chains etc. Just ordered some from Amazon. Thanks for sharing. Just settling down with a cuppa to watch some more of your very informative videos.
Steve ive fitted these, its easier to take the plastic window cover off ,it only has 4 screws on it and then you can cut around template and you cant then scratch the door.
Hi Steve & Wendy ,,, With reference to the cut out for lock ,,, from Halfords or a motorcycle accessory shop u could use a Rubber fairing trim in all colours to hide the plastic cut & make neater,,, Off to Benidorm for some Winter Sun a week today in Motorhome for 4mths on 24th Jan,, safe travels guys 👍
Hi Steve, very interesting video, I've recently fitted these to my van don't have the remis blinds to worry about, one thing that has occurred though my habitation door has a developed a locking issue, make sure your habitation door functions 100% , if you get a problem with it there is no way into your van if you have deadlocked the front
Hey Bob, I've never really worried about getting in to our motorhome as the windows are just plastic and could easily be forced open in a real emergency where we had nowhere to sleep that night :) LOL
A bit of rubber door edge trim would clean up you cut and make it look a lot better. A Dremel tool would cut cleaner with just the last bits to finish by hand.
Hi William, yes I think you're right that a rubber trim would have finished it off nicely. If we do that job again on anotehr van I'll certainly be looking for that :)
It's a bit odd but the templates come in the original kit BUT they're printed on the back of the instruction sheet. So you will destroy the instructions when using the templates. Saves on paper but a little bit stupid...
I have both the Remis and the HEO lock to fit on my project. I’m wondering if it would be easier to cut the blind before it’s mounted. Must watch again to see if that looks feasible.
Perhaps@@TheHappyTravellers could have filmed both sides, and shown us the "best bits". Or practised first, and filmed second. Very brave, and honest, filming the first one though.
Steve. It is really easy to remove the blinds and cut them off the job.At the top left hand corner of the blind there is a remis badge. This just clips off and behind it is just one self tapping screw.Remove this and then pull the blinds slightly forward and gently push upwards at the same time.It makes cutting so easy.Maybe you could video and demonstrate just how easy it is😉.
Cut it tighter then finish with a piece of glass paper to get a accurate finish and use masking tape to protect the paint work and easier to see pencil marks . They should slow anyone down from entering but are you going to fit pro plates to deter them attempting again ? As some have said I traded mine onto a scrap piece of paper then used that as a template .
After some discussion via email with the people at ProPlates AND some more info from someone else who has tried to fit the proplates, I've decided that I'm not going to fit them at this time. The HEOSafe Locks will have the same effect so no real point in fitting them.
Once fitted I think they’d be fine, however, reports from a friend who tried to fit them suggested that it might not be the easiest DIY job. Removal of the interior door panel is required and I am told that a special tool is needed for part of the job. For those reasons I decided that the HEO Safe dead licks would be an easier and possibly more secure solution. I was in contact with the people at ProPlates but when I asked what the difference was between their “original” plates and those for less than half the price on eBay he just stopped responding to my emails. I followed up twice and still no response. For all of the reasons above I can’t recommend them. Get the HEO Safe deadlocks they’re easy to fit and super secure.
Hi Steve Rather you than me cutting up the van, good job though. We left Norfolk only last Friday but are already at Denia in Spain. We are on a site called Loas Llanos if you are passing this way. Its cheap and has all facilities. Paul
We will be travelling north from Motril from 19th February. If you're still at Los Llanos, we'll try to make that one of our stops on the way to Sweden :)
Good job, I see the weather is going to be rough there from late Sunday til about Wednesday, lots of heavy rain forecast and some are saying possible more flooding again! I hope it doesn't happen again! 🤞
We are due to leave on Thursday next week so we will be packing up today and tomorrow so we are not left with lots of wet stuff to pack into the garage 😀😎👍
The Happy Travellers haven’t got a Motorhome but is the habitation door anymore secure than the cab doors? With caravans, a lot of us add extra locks on our doors
The habitation doors on Motorhomes is much the same as a modern caravan door so it's not very secure. We do intend to fit an external lock to it and security cameras to the inside. The cameras will be internet connected so we get an alert if there is noise or movement detected.
You can also download the template as a PDF file from HEOSafe, and print it off yourself. I also found it easier to look at the installation pictures on line, as you can enlarge them.
Hi Steve, I added these to my van today too, 6 deg C, windy, and dodging the showers in the UK. I think you had a better working environment. No matter how careful one is trimming the Remis cover I think adding a cap strip over the edge is going to be the only way to make it look neat. I have a Ducato panel van conversion so I have other HEOSafe locks too. On the outside of the van I have fitted 2 x HEOSafe 1760 locks (available in black, white, or silver). Very easy, just nerve racking drilling 8 holes through the side of the van. The same key fits all the HEOSafe locks, if you order the single key set. On the inside of the sliding door on my van I also fitted a HEOSafe 1763 internal deadlock. That is a bit more challenging! It is very difficult to see what you are doing and you to have to align the inner and out portions to within a couple of millimetres. Then you have to drill 12mm holes in the plastic door pillar trim to mount the inner portion on the metal door pillar underneath the trim. I found I have a cable running in that section behind the trim which I had to avoid. The good news is that the insect screen still pulls across, and goes behind the lock. A good days work. Now wondering about the ProtectAvan ProPlates? They are going to be hard work, as I have 4 Fiat handles, and you have to remove all the internal door trims! I think the main advantage of the ProPlates is that they are visible, and should deter people, and stop them damaging the van before they find the HEOSafe locks securing the doors.
Yes Rob it’s easy to get locked out especially as the central locking locks the hab door even when it’s open. Exiting without the keys would then do it 😱
Hi Steve, I've just fitted these and I had to cut a bit of the grey plastic under the rubber where the lock keep goes to allow the lock to fully engage, did you have to do this, very pleased with the locks, look better than the milenco ones when fitted, great vid BTW 👍
You did a good job sir , thanks for sharing. Bravo 👏
Thanks for watching

Hey Tony, so pleased you like out videos and find then useful. Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
Good job well done. The odd little scratch is of no consequence compared the peace of mind these will give you.
It's surprising how much better we feel leaving the van with those lock in place :)
Hindsight such a good thing . I,ve used the suco on my fridge 2 yrs and still good
Yes that stuff is quite good 😀👍😎
Well done , Steve, great job.
Thanks Richard 😀👍😎
Great idea to make a video with the radio running... 😀 And you cut into your door with the dremel....
Glad you enjoyed it 😀👍😎
Yes, brilliant work
Looks a nice neat lock, gives you more security & peace off mind, think I will get them for my MH 👍
Yes the HEO Safe locks work well. 👍😎😀
Steve ive fitted these, its easier to take the plastic window cover off ,it only has 4 screws on it and then you can cut around template and you cant then scratch the door.
Good tip Gazza 😀👍😎
Well Done Steve they do a great Job
Yes we are happier with them fitted 👍😀😎
Thanks for sharing Steve definitely a good option to add makes you wonder why the manufacturers don't add these as standard take care and safe travels
Cheers Paul. There is a lot of stuff the manufacturers don’t do. 😔
Thanks Ken, yes that’s the sort of thing we are thinking about. Happy travels to Benidorm, have a great and safe winter 😀👍😎

rob yates why don't you mask the gray plastic of and run a bead of black sikaflex or stixall neatly around it will also help to secure it better.
Great idea Rob 😀👍😎

Sorry i didn't get it all. Are those cutting templates in the original kit from HEO or where can i get them?

thats what I did, removed the Remis blind and did the cutting indoors, much neater job imho but scary just the same
Yes it’s safer to remove it.
Great video thanks for sharing
A bit nerve wracking 😱
Hi Steve, possibly a bit late now but could you not have loosened the remis blind to give you a gap between the door?
Yes I could have done that. I think filming it was probably too distracting to allow me to think properly about it. 🤷♂️
LOL , looks like an effective security device though, hopefully you wont get disturbed again! Safe travels love to Wendy.
The drivers door lock went way better than that one. Not filming it made a big difference LOL
Perhaps@@TheHappyTravellers could have filmed both sides, and shown us the "best bits". Or practised first, and filmed second. Very brave, and honest, filming the first one though.
The original plan was to film the second one but hey we love to live on the edge 😆😆😆😱
Paint code from Halfords or similar Fiat Grigo 691/a Just touched mine up and perfect match
Oh great, thanks for the paint code :)

Hey Col, I'll have a look at that and maybe include that in a video :) Thanks so much for the suggestion and tips on how to do it. :)

Looks good Steve, a good deterrent x
Yes I think the warning sticker is a good addition 😀👍😎
Good job buddy, peace of mind 👌😉👍
Thanks 😊 yes especially after the break in.😀👍😎
Exactly! Safe travels! X JP
The 2nd one well so much easier :)
Nice one Steve can u only use the lock from the inside of cab cheers .kev
Yes it’s a deadlock for internal use only
Top job 👏👍
Thanks Tony. Yes I’m quite pleased with it.
Hi Steve
Rather you than me cutting up the van, good job though.

Hi again Steve
I think we will be gone from here by the date you mention. It’s a long drive to Sweden anyway!
Paul
It’s 2500 miles from Motril to Stockholm so it’s going to take at least a week to get there 😱
Good job, I see the weather is going to be rough there from late Sunday til about Wednesday, lots of heavy rain forecast and some are saying possible more flooding again! I hope it doesn't happen again! 🤞
We are due to leave on Thursday next week so we will be packing up today and tomorrow so we are not left with lots of wet stuff to pack into the garage 😀😎👍
Can i buy that for my Renault traffic van for security, my van was commercial van converted to camper.
I think you can. Have a look on the HEOSafe website. 👍😀😎
Just push on a piece of black plastic trim over the cut plastic blind cover, it will make it look a much neater finish and fill the gap.
Good idea David, thanks... :)
Can you get a single lock for hab door ?
Not sure but why would you want to?
The Happy Travellers haven’t got a Motorhome but is the habitation door anymore secure than the cab doors? With caravans, a lot of us add extra locks on our doors
The habitation doors on Motorhomes is much the same as a modern caravan door so it's not very secure. We do intend to fit an external lock to it and security cameras to the inside. The cameras will be internet connected so we get an alert if there is noise or movement detected.
Hi Steve, re template. Perhaps you should have traced onto a piece of paper. Then instructions would be in one piece. Helpful video though.
Could have done that but when purchasing a £145 product I expect certain thing...😱😳😟
You can also download the template as a PDF file from HEOSafe, and print it off yourself. I also found it easier to look at the installation pictures on line, as you can enlarge them.
Is Mike Graham upset with Harry??
I don’t think so 😟

I’ve decided not to go with the proplates. As you say they seem really difficult to fit 😀👍😎
Be careful you don't lock yourselfs out, sounds daft, but it happens.
Yes Rob it’s easy to get locked out especially as the central locking locks the hab door even when it’s open. Exiting without the keys would then do it 😱
Use Wendy’s colouring pens to cover the paint cut.
Ooh I’d get in trouble for that 😱

Had to cut the rubber but not the plastic. Glad you fitted them OK and they work great :)
