Killer video guys, I’m a huge Metallica fan and I’m gonna spend the day listening to their new album 72 seasons, I’m really excited to spend some time soaking it all up. Kirk Hammett is one of my all-time favorite influences without question. 🤘
I need to listen to that all the way through...I've only heard a little. It sounds like Hetfield has taken his vocals to a new level from what I've heard so far
Most people who criticize Kirk aren't trolls, they're his fans who were greatly influenced by him and are saddened to see him play lazy uninspired solos. Compare that to his old solos which were actually composed, he thought about the harmony and theory and melodies. Now it's just sloppy bluesy noodling drenched in wah. He can do better and we want him to do better because he's our guitar hero
I hear what you're saying, but there are a lot of folks being outright jerks. I could also imagine that he may be tired of the same soloing style after all these years. So he may be trying something a little different. I'd like to hear an interview with him responding to this though. It's always good to the perspective from the source.
@@jasonstallworth I agree, people online usually critique just with bad intentions, not trying to actually help. But I do think a big amount of his criticism is because he kind of set the bar so high to people who grew up listening to him, and now doesn't pretend to try to reach it. People who have never heard the first few albums and slam him, have no clue what the man can really do. In the end, it isn't that big of a deal to me. I will still Love Metallica....
@Marcin McUla I think after over 40 years of blistering solos and perfectly composed links Kirk has earned the right to take a back seat and chill for a couple records. I'm not hating on ya buddy, I just disagree on your stance. Cheers 🍻
My Dad has always been a Rose guy until I got him a Schecter hard tail, first Schecter he had ever played, he has 5 now. For a hardtail to make a Rose guy buy more speaks a lot. Got him an N4 Swamp Ash a couple weeks ago for Christmas and I think that's been put above everything in his fleet. I don't think he's even slept since he touched it, he can't stop playing it.
I like the simplicity and it reminds me alot of my Jackson Phil Demmel Signature King V. I had to install a tremolo no and remove the locking nut to get nearly the same tho ;-) I´m sure it has the typical qualitys that i learned to appreciate ESP guitars for. Tuning stability, playability and highest output. Awesome studio guitars in my opinion.
question for you guys (similar to most esps) this or a jackson rr with the concord paint with black lines that iconic for a similar price? or a snakbyte or a white 70s explorer same price for the real version of it
I recommend playing each one to see what feels best to you. Oftentimes more expensive guitars don't guarantee it will fit you. If you have a local shop, play as many as you can
I don't think everyone hates on Kirk for no reason. They're just upset that he's no longer using his potential to write great solos. I even look up to his earlier work like in Blackened and Ride thw Lightning, and still think he's one of my favorite players, but he's just not the same anymore...
I'm a huge fan of their older stuff as well. It's what got me into playing guitar. I'm guessing maybe he's burnt out a little and trying some new things. Who knows
Yeah... I am one of those punks who grew up listening to the records, who didn't even know what they looked like until around 99... never cared about the length of their hair... I just enjoyed the music, first time I heard the Black album when I was like 7, I instantly wanted to pick up a guitar, That's how I got into it... this record does the same for me... makes me wanna jam to those great songs now that I am 37... also that's how I learned English, just from singing and blasting Metallica all my life!!! you are absolutely right, for me he is the greatest guitar player in the world.
Dang‼️ What a great looking Flying V • Metallic Gold and play on words... Your playing it did it justice , gr8t tones. Orange 🍊 amp was sounding good as well. Have to see what’s it worth now .. L8tr
It’s a beautiful guitar in all of it’s finishes and styles but I prefer the Arrows. Still though, this is Kirk’s gig and it’s awesome that he has co-designed this set of axes and made them available to us. I like how the black one of those is loosely modelled on his Jackson Rhoads that he ordered directly from the factory back in 1985 or so. My LTD Arrow has locking tuners, they work wonders ad far as maintaining tuning goes.
I love the old metallica , but i have to say the newest album 72 seasons is inceredible. Like every new cd i get i will play them over and over when driving back and forth to work. So around the 3rd play through of the new Metallica album i was really starting to remember the songs. Now its 2 weeks later and i am learning the songs on my guitar . This might be the best album they have done. I can hear the old songs within the new. Its amazing. Kirk is fn rippin the solos. He is a mad man on guitar. I give it a 10 plus and i cant wait to go see them in a few months when they play in Seattle. Go get the album, you will love it
Great video , awesome demo of an incredible guitar . Kirk Hammett must be really upset about the trolls . As he reads the comments from his Hawaii beach side house , and playing to sell out venues . 😂😂😂😂
Kirk is my first guitar hero. And I am not very good, not near his level or most of the people who critique him. But, I can CLEARLY tell and hear that his new solos are NOT anywhere near the depth, ups and downs, or time put into them as the first 3 or even 4 albums. I don't even mean shredding, I just mean the new solos don't say anything to me whereas the old solos are things people still remember from a song. I am sure some of it is my own nostalgia....But it is clear to me, and it is totally his right and I will still buy it lol....but he does NOT put the same effort or time into his solos...that's all my point is...And it shows. Still good, but not HOLY SHIT good, like we know he can...that's all oh yeah, GREAT video and damn that guitar is pretty sweeet. You shred!!!
I need to spend some more time listening to their latest. Yeah, I can hear the changes. And I don’t know if it’s that he wanted to take a lighter or different direction or if he felt the songs just didn’t call for more exotic soloing. Like you, I’ll still enjoy their music.
A few practical question - how does this feel to play sitting down? Do you have to tuck the lower wing under your right thigh? ( I'm right-handed ). Would I need a strap to stop it slipping? Is it heavy in terms of weight? Love your metal technique videos, Jason.
I actually had a strap while playing and I guess that’s why I’ve never owned a V. They were always a pain to play sitting down. The good thing about this model, and we should have highlighted this, is you plug in the cable at the top of the V so it doesn’t get in the way. And it’s pretty light weight.
excellent vid. one thing. the inlays, what are thooooose! Hammet is cool. NOW WHERE'S THE OLYMPIC WHITE GOOFY VULTURE V? If you guys like this model, check out all the Alexi models. The Sammy Duet LTD is the ultimate secret weapon of the LTD line and lights fire on ESP's asses. :))
Pretty sweet guitar, not sure I could happily play a V, but that's a pre conceived idea as haven't tried one yet. I'm happy to hear something different from Metallica. Sure I like some albums better than others but I don't think that has much, if anything to do with Kirk. After all, variety is the spice of life 🤘🤘🤘
The Vs are a little different to play. I made sure to wear a strap, even sitting down. And that’s a great outlook that you have. They can’t keep making the same albums over and over. It becomes monotonous. You have to branch out and create something new and accept that some will like it and some won’t.
There's only 2 guys that can pull off lead for Metallica... and one of ems in megadeth... Kirk is my favorite guitarist... He's very good at knowing what's called for and satisfying that... lately, James has slowed down, and as a result, you can hear Kirk's influences a lot more... you can tell he loved Jimmy Hendrix... which seems ironic when guys say he has no feel, but his biggest inspiration was the guy with the most feel
Personally i think the greatest guitarist are Ritchie Blackmore, Gary Moore & Eddie Van Halen. That been said i've been a Metallica fan since July 25th 1983 when i purchased the Kill 'em All album. I don't compare solos. And I don't listen to music just for the solos. The overall song is what's important to me. It either captivates me or it doesn't. For example, I love the song 'Take this Life' by In Flames and there aren't any dominant guitar solos in that but the song really hits me. Don't get me wrong. I love solos. And I shred. But there's so much more to the song that solos. And Kirk may have played solos without the intention of impressing other guitarists. Maybe he just write the on this album as he thought they fit this particular album best. Who knows.
The rule should be this: You can criticize Kirk's solo's only once you have a song in the top ten most played of the past decade or a record that sells at least 10 million copies.. (that's a third of the Black album alone). 'Nuff said. Great vid bro.
