13:18 I had the privilege of seeing them play live in London this February after discovering them only a month before. They opened with G.O.A.T., and, to be perfectly honest, it was just like the recording, bar the obvious fact that live mixing is not creating a single song but rather leveling single instruments together. Absolutely stellar performance, an amazing atmosphere, and possibly the nicest crowd ever even down to a properly painful mosh pit which was only created when Scott LePage (the second guitarist to come in on this track) said during the intro to G.O.A.T. "Now make a hole in the middle of the floor and wait for the drop. YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO, MOTHERFUCKERS"
When the song is so good Chase has to turn a review into a motivational video to keep people from going '''fuck this, those people are guitar gods, it's impossible, I quit....'
Quite enjoying your reactions and analysis. As a lover of music, but not a musician, I appreciate the explanations on various techniques and styles. I encourage you to check out the band Oceans of Slumber - amazing prog/doom metal group from Texas. They have a new album coming up soon!
Wow. I'm reminded when King Crimson came out with Discipline or The Police with Synchronicity. Something Great and something New. This could be a supergroup. Maybe the music deserves a great singer and that's why there isn't one? Please do more. I'm a big fan already.

Yes, Polyphia! I knew you'd love this band :) For more Polyphia, try Champagne. For more instrumental prog rock, I recommend Paper Moon, by Plini. For instrumental prog metal, Animals as Leaders are unbeatable and any song from them is amazing, but some of the most popular ones among reactors are CAFO, Tooth & Claw and Ectogenesis.

I loved how you broke it down. again, you definitely got a subscription cause of that face 1:14. Fucking priceless.
How about mixing two of life's great pleasures, Babymetal and Polyphia. They collaborated on a song called Brand New Day featuring Tim Henson · Scott LePage ( ruclips.net/video/XGJErLVybxw/видео.html ) . The video is a mix of Proshot with the insertion of a few well edited segments of Fancam to bypass copyright algorithms, but the audio is from the Proshot Blu-Ray.
Brooooooo, if you like Polyphia, you should check out the band called Unprocessed!!! They've even made a track with Polyphia. Two frigging powerhouse bands with equally PHENOMENAL skills and creativity!!!
Polyphia is excellent, this vid is fantstic. For something similarly complex (more funky-bass and vocals), try _Unprocessed, "Abandoned"_ ruclips.net/video/s8V5VtMCDV0/видео.html You're welcome XD
That's amazing. As someone who works in sound engineering, would love to see/hear the recording sessions for something like this not to mention the mixing part of it all.
Tim and the others usually record into a DAW with an amp sim or multi fx rig. For this album, most songs were mastered and mixed by two hip hop producers: Judge and Y2K
Hey Chase. I just found your channel from this video, which I really love (media.giphy.com/media/W1ZQNEMTrHClvlRlrj/giphy.gif)! You definitely have a new subscriber. My other Polyphia favorites are Yas, The Worst, and 40oz. Another band you should definitely check out is Periphery. My favorites are Marigold, Reptile, It's Only Smiles, and Garden In The Bones. My last suggestion is an English rock duo, Royal Blood. There's just 2 of them - vocalist/bassist and drummer - but the bassist runs his instrument to an extensive pedal board setup with channel dividers and pitch modulators among others. The result is the frontman being able to toggle on and off the bass, guitar 1 and guitar 2 channels as needed throughout a song. It is SO cool. My favorites are Little Monster, Figure It Out, and I Only Lie When I Love You. Enjoy & keep it up!
Bruh, no lie, this is exactly how I reacted when I first heard them. I love the look of sheer joy on your face at the end of the playthrough, much how I looked as well.
I enjoyed how they let each of the band members shine through out the song and then the incredibly intricate structure at the end of the song where you had gaps for the guitar, bass, drums, and that sample they brought back from the beginning. It was like lattices with a bunch of holes in them, but when you overlayed them all, they filled the space.
I've had other comments in mind to say but as I'm watching it's all been erased because you dropped a fucking Victor Wooten shoutout. MY MAN!!!! Okay, what did I have in mind again? Oh yeah a few videos ago you said you weren't so into prog. Hope our suggestions make you eat a fat plate of crow ❤🥰 Great start to a week guaranteed to end great!
I love that Polyphia have kinda moved away from the prog metal style and found their own place mixing progressive instrumental music with ultra-sharp modern pop, trap and hip hop vibes, truly original and so much better for it
Seriously, I listened to this in the premiere. Didn't get it, but I have come back several times to watch this reaction. Like "called" back to it. I was impressed with the musicianship from the jump, but had not the developed ear to appreciate. I am converted, this song and this band play the music within the music. Probably makes no sense. Long story short.....looking forward to hearing more.
Ooo you're in for a treat for this band. Personally I don't really like their newest stuff from this song and up. It's too electronic for me. But awesome piece nevertheless. Check out their old stuff too. My favorite are their Renaissance album.

@@ChaseCarneson They're not as interesting as Polyphia, more straight metal/rock. But they are really something. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Of course, then that leads me to thinking of 3-piece bands, and then I have to mention The Warning. Three sisters from Mexico (though they mostly sing in english) doing some solid rock, and again, teenagers. I think the oldest, Dany (Daniela) is 20 now. "Dust to dust" is a good start, if no other reason that it's the first track, the prologue, off their second album, which is a concept about a stalker and murder. I'm only 5 minutes in but holy hell this shit slaps! Reminds me a lot of Animals As Leaders. I bet you would LOVE them and I would LOVE to hear what you think of them. Lippincott is probably my favorite from them.
This is by far, the best evaluation that I’ve heard for ANY “musician” type of videos. You understood EVERYTHING that was going on in this video, including the effects. I’ve heard so many people try to say that this is just related to triggers, fake, etc. You understand how complicated this is, but it’s the syncopation, their musician ability, the balance/mix, and just being there together. I agree with you that I’d hate to see all these layers, and mixing them; it’s amazing. I know that it would take years for my friends and I could each do this individually (maybe), but to pull it all together after that (UNGODLY!!) Glad you liked it. They do have a live version, listen to it. Lol.

Imo goat is just a flex track. OG 40 oZ and light are all just good showcases. The Renaissance album is still my fave
Death note is always my favourite
Champagne!!!
I've listened to GOAT countless times but it still amazes me...very beautifully written I would say
Where are you from?
You sound South African 🇿🇦 🤔
Its because I am...🇿🇦
I think their best song is "OD" so I would reccomend you to listen to that one!
definitely love that song, has a dark almost Spanish tone, can wait for his next polyphia vid, they are one of my favorite bands
When the song is so good Chase has to turn a review into a motivational video to keep people from going '''fuck this, those people are guitar gods, it's impossible, I quit....'
"Yas" is another banger by them
Quite enjoying your reactions and analysis. As a lover of music, but not a musician, I appreciate the explanations on various techniques and styles. I encourage you to check out the band Oceans of Slumber - amazing prog/doom metal group from Texas. They have a new album coming up soon!
Thank you for that. I've got them on the list 👍
The way your mouth fell open and your eyes opened up when the first riff started is the reason I watch reactions.
Haha couldn't help myself
Wow. I'm reminded when King Crimson came out with Discipline or The Police with Synchronicity. Something Great and something New. This could be a supergroup. Maybe the music deserves a great singer and that's why there isn't one? Please do more. I'm a big fan already.
woah...woah...woah... That was the most interesting thing i've heard in a bit. More of these guys!!!!!!! Awesome
Definitely more of these guys coming out soon.
These guys are sick, but there are tons of other bands in this same vein that are incredible. Chon is amazing so is Covet. Really some incredible bands out right now that do only instrumental stuff.
9:30 aw yeah, that rythm is called dembow, very popular in latinamerican music.
In my opinion a good instrumental band can topple any other band
Incorporating natural harmonics into a melody in the way Tim does is absolutely insane.
It's beautiful. It's intricate. It's just amazing.
It's immense
So hey. Check out Ningen Isu - Heartless Scat at some point, it's god damn amazing.
Oh yeah, Ningen Isu is a good one
YES!
While this is certainly a great song, it's not even my favorite from the album. I would personally put O.D. and Nasty above it.
Nice words.... Very cool, i made some albums with a band Orange Grove and was in the studio a couple of times and I love that you had a very good understanding of what was going on. When I saw this i thought 2 things. Wow(HOLYSHITWOW) and Thank God, something inspirational, new...
dude, I am a HUGE fan of Polyphia! i LOVE this album! the whole thing will have your jaw dropped. Speaking of that, your face 1:14 was fucking priceless. you got a subscription out of it! But, PLEASE do more Polyphia first times! this whole album needs to be done! it is a master piece. I have listened to it almosy daily for about a year because I find something new and amazing about it everytime.
The video is a mix of Proshot with the insertion of a few well edited segments of Fancam to bypass copyright algorithms, but the audio is from the Proshot Blu-Ray.
lmao his reaction. Nobody is ready for that first guitar intro.
Never ready
I would say if you're looking for more instrumental tracks to react to, I have two suggestions.
Intervals: Belvedere
Or
The Omnific: Pharoah 2.0
That first face when the guitar started was priceless
Brooooooo, if you like Polyphia, you should check out the band called Unprocessed!!! They've even made a track with Polyphia. Two frigging powerhouse bands with equally PHENOMENAL skills and creativity!!!
This aint a reaction video, this is an analysis. 10/10
I appreciate you.
Polyphia is excellent, this vid is fantstic. For something similarly complex (more funky-bass and vocals), try _Unprocessed, "Abandoned"_ ruclips.net/video/s8V5VtMCDV0/видео.html
You're welcome XD
Its like if someone took a music box and tossed in a little demon a clown and a fairy. Im amazed.
Love this.
You should check out CHON or Car Bomb
That's amazing. As someone who works in sound engineering, would love to see/hear the recording sessions for something like this not to mention the mixing part of it all.
Completely agree. Would love to sit in on that.
Not sure who mixed the album, but I know Tim Henson, the guitarist, does a lot of his own mixing and sound engineering
Tim and the others usually record into a DAW with an amp sim or multi fx rig. For this album, most songs were mastered and mixed by two hip hop producers: Judge and Y2K
If you want to check out more Polyphia stuff - Nasty, 40 oz, O.D. off the top of my head. All fkin bangers
honestly it's the single greatest groove I've ever heard.
I love the look of sheer joy on your face at the end of the playthrough, much how I looked as well.
your reaction in the first 10 seconds made me SUBSCRIBE to your channel 🤘🏼. I agree and felt everything you said 🎸👊🏼
I enjoyed how they let each of the band members shine through out the song and then the incredibly intricate structure at the end of the song where you had gaps for the guitar, bass, drums, and that sample they brought back from the beginning. It was like lattices with a bunch of holes in them, but when you overlayed them all, they filled the space.
Please check out the Band Conquering Dystopia ...the best thing ever created... no more words needed 🔥
Probably the best reaction vid I've seen, love how u actually properly analyze the musicianship. Most are just like "wow sounds cool".
Thanks for that man. I do my best.
I've had other comments in mind to say but as I'm watching it's all been erased because you dropped a fucking Victor Wooten shoutout. MY MAN!!!!
Okay, what did I have in mind again? Oh yeah a few videos ago you said you weren't so into prog. Hope our suggestions make you eat a fat plate of crow ❤🥰
Great start to a week guaranteed to end great!
There's something so amazing about watching someone else discover something you like. It's like you're rediscovering it all over again.
"sounds like an out of tune music box"
*music goes into fucking lunar orbit*
"oh."
Pretty much 😂👌
That was amazing. I was slightly concerned when I heard instrumental but JFC....it was so trippy and awesome.
A fellow Chase! Good video mate
Another chase!!!!!!
This sounds like dubstep with an actual guitar, drums and bass. Instead of it being all synthesized computer sounds that dubstep has.
I love that Polyphia have kinda moved away from the prog metal style and found their own place mixing progressive instrumental music with ultra-sharp modern pop, trap and hip hop vibes, truly original and so much better for it
I think the music is actually made on the keyboard and computer ?
@@autohmae At least what Tim writes is usually written using a keyboard to get the structure of the notes, but the final product is live instruments.
@@auracle6184 Having a 2-part song writing process makes perfect sense. Thanks for pointing out how they do it.
@@autohmae Tim made a few videos demonstrating it :D ruclips.net/video/cZrjfacsTBs/видео.html&ab_channel=Polyphia
Look but dont touch next, that shit is wild
Wow-ee. That's like nothing I've ever heard before!
Cool huh?
I've watched your reaction vid now 3 times, just to see a mirror reaction to my own. This was my initial exposure to polyphia, and Chase as well, totally satisfactory!!
love,love,LOVED IT!!💯💥😎
Finally an instrumental :) - instrumental fanbase, can we make him react to Vitalism - Pagan Part II?
Yes let's make him do this
Amen
Polyphia comes from the word polyphonic, to combine multiple melodies into a single part. Just a cool tidbit I found, thought I’d share.
You're my favorite reactor by far. I love rewatching your reactions because I feel like you're experiencing what I am but I also get to learn so much from you. Thank you for doing this channel 😊
Appreciate that Jamie. Thank you so much.
It would be amazing if you reacted to Wolf and Bear - GreyBlood
Great video, Polyphia slaps hard
Man I love this song and this band. They’re crazy talented. Watching them live is mind blowing.
Just saw your bio, and wow Blindside is a name from my past... They were supporting at my first ever gig - Disturbed at the Brixton Academy.
Amazing band
This group is stukkend I swear. Some sort of dark magic we don't understand. Talent alone doesn't begin to explain the brilliance.
I've seen the name around, but I think this is the first time I've actually heard them. Very cool!
Makes me think, next time you visit Japan you should check out Asterism. 3 piece, all instrumental band of Japanese teenagers (at least at the time of recording). Lots of live videos to choose from.
I HAVE TO SEE THIS!!!!
They are very good now, but personally I can't wait to see what they'll be like in 5-10 years.
@@iDEATH If you're into Japanese guitarists, you should check out Ichika Nito on RUclips. He's good friends with Polyphia and is featured on their latest album. He's only been playing for like 4-5 years and is an absolute virtuoso!
@@WKerrick Oh yeah? Thanks for the tip, I'll write his name down on the ever expanding list and check him out. :)
If u liked this u gotta check out Aviator by Polyphia feat. Jason Richardson to me it's way better than goat also you'd probably love the music video as it's just everyone playing also the band doesnt even do Jason's part live because it's to hard, they actually have him come out and play it lol. Anyway loved the reaction dude always love seeing people find these guys!
13:18 I saw them live in Chicago in December and they play almost flawlessly live! I could tell they were almost struggling to play O.D. though, but I couldn’t imagine anyone being able to play that song live with ease.
If you enjoy this song, then you really need to check out Abandoned by Unprocessed, such intricate guitar work and talented musicianship, you’re surely in for a treat if you check that song out!
i must say, ive watched A LOT of musical reaction, many for this song alone. And you sir have provided the best reaction. You caught many little things that most professionals would have missed. You sir have a thorough understanding of music and have earned my subscription. The technicality of Polyphia is absurdly rare.
Really appreciate that Micah. Thanks for watching and for the sub. Hopefully you'll find a bunch more videos to enjoy on the channel.
Polyphia dropped a new track about 2 weeks ago called playing god. Loved your breakdowns of the other tracks you’ve done. This one would absolutely blow your mind!
I'd say check out "James Franco" & "Aviator" for Polyphia's earlier sound, "crush" for a midway point and then "Goose" & "Nasty" for their more recent style.
Phenominal band, blown away whenever I heard something new from them.
Sorry for breaking 666 comments but react to Champagne by Polyphia pleeeeaaaaase
I'm only 5 minutes in but holy hell this shit slaps! Reminds me a lot of Animals As Leaders. I bet you would LOVE them and I would LOVE to hear what you think of them. Lippincott is probably my favorite from them.
Got them on the list 💪
Gotta watch Biggest Metal Collab 3
Edit: Biggest Shred Collab 3
Lol.
I am still continuously mind blown by this song! Every time i listen to it, I hear something new.
I love seeing people get excited about songs the same way I do. This is an awesome reaction and breakdown.
Can you do Plini - Selenium Forest Next time?
First time hearing these guys. What a wicked instrumental.
Tim Henson and Scottie Lepage are incredibly talented and they have so many well done songs. Worth checking out.
Ur in for a treat
Absolutely phenomenal breakdown man. These guys are from my hometown of Dallas Texas in the states. And Ive known them for quite a while You've got a great ear and picked up on a lot of stuff that most people miss.
The lead guitarist Tim Henson mixes it Im pretty sure
Yeah he does
I did some digging it’s a guy named palmquist and the production of the album is unheard of for a shred album
He also writes so much too.
Funny thing is that Tim actually struggles to learn SLP (Scott LePage)'s solos which is hilarious BC Henson is a flex god
Jason Richardsonとかichikaとかも好きそう。
Goose
Look but don't touch
Aviator
All great songs by these guys
And I've seen them live they are very very VERY talented musicians cuz they played absolutely perfect to their studio recordings it's crazy, i love this group
Basically trap mathcore
Would love to hear your thoughts on 'Nasty' by the same band. The sounds they get out the instruments blow my mind every single time.
Check out Plini...howzit from germany.
It is really awesome to see someone break down a song and talk about the particulars of what they like.
Based on how you spoke about the guitar work here, I think you'd like Abandoned by Unprocessed, it has a lot of similar groove from the guitar work (though, isn't instrumental).
Alternatively, I'd love to see you react to something by Protest The Hero. Sequoia Throne is a great place to start if you're prepared for the chaos!
Thank you for the support. Also nice shout on the reccomendations, will give them a peep.
My favorite song from polyphia is "Yas" you should check it out
I was lucky enough to see Polyphia and Chon live when they came to my town, absolutely phenomenal. Goose and Light are a personal favorite from Polyphia and Peace is definitely the song I would recommend for Chon.
Great stuff, love seeing people get exposed to math rock.
