I will be the odd one out because I did not like it at all, sorry. I'm a very openminded musiclover, love all sorts of genres but I don't care much about Within Temptation straying any further from the metalband they once were... But kudos to them for doing what feels right. Don't let anybody dictate the artistic direction of your band!

I loved Within Temptation 17 years ago and still love them today! A testimony to how a band can succesfully evolve over a long period of time!
This is one of the few bands that really, truly, never does retread old material. I've been listening to the band since I "accidentally" discovered them around "Silent Force", and they've never sounded the same on ANY of their records. And for the love of Christ, Sharon, START AGING already or tell us where you've stashed the fountain of youth.

Within Temptation is not just any band. It is a band, in which in my case, it has been the salvation. I am a person with a disability, which over time gets worse. I have been a victim of bullying, harassment, victim of gender violence. In 2004, it was the traumatic year in my life. We suffered my family, an episode of sexist violence, I had many problems with people, they beat me, because of my sexual condition (for being gay), for being different and having a disability. It was in that year, when I met Within Temptation. You have given me a lot of strength to fight for my family, to get up every day with a reason to live. Thanks to the band and all the people behind the band. Looking forward to seeing you in Spain at a concert, and meeting you in person. Keep creating music, that even though many say that you are stalled for a while, remember that even as young as I am, you are giving it life.

Artists don't have an easy time nowadays. Especially musicians. They are under constant pressure of society telling them what music they should and shouldn't do. The question is, should the band be a slave just so that the crowd stays entertained, or should the band stay true to themselves and be free even if it meant that the crowd wouldn't understand their message?

That's actually not the real message of the song, but your interpretation is relevant. The song is about people who are different, who don't fit in, and "weird", but they're not here for our entertainment.

Tuomas from Nightwish has written at least 2 songs that I can think of telling his fans that hes gonna write whatever he pleases and they won't change anything by negative influence.

WT has been one of my favorite bands since I was 14 or 15. 30 now and I still love them, and I swear Sharon hasn't aged a day.
Saw them in Seattle a year or two ago and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to!
I got an invite to go to that concert. I have been kicking myself in the ass ever since for not going.

I actually met the band in Seattle in May of '07. They & The Gathering were supporting bands for Lacuna Coil, and the tour was nicknamed The Hottest Chicks in Metal Tour. It was actually VERY low keyed and the venue seemed quite small in retrospect. All three bands were all very approachable after their sets. Sharon was awesome to meet and talk to but I swear I talked to her in garble. Typical guy. The bass player Jeroen offered me a cigarette as I talked to him. I swear I was about to take him up on it if I actually smoked. Very cool people and an amazing band!! I'll never forget it.

I don't think it matters what the song is about. Not everyone will understand the meaning and the timing couldn't have been more atrocious. I imagine this was all planned out before the global pandemic was a thing but still, as an artist, you need to know when to dial it back a bit.

is this my favorite within temptation song? no. do i fully support their freedom as artists to make the music they want to make? absolutely. and i'm looking forward to the rest of the album.
OMG I have so many things to say about this video. It's totally mind blowing. I love all the references to comics like Harley Quinn, The Crow or Joker, movies like The Matrix or tv shows like AHS.

One of the biggest reasons Within Temptation became my favorite band was their diversity. I like a lot of bands and there are a few I even love, but WT has been the only band where I can find a song for any mood I'm in. They also have a deep emotional connection with their music that makes it feel so genuine. I love their old albums, but I'm also loving these new songs and eagerly await more! Stay true WT and rock on!
I agree with you. I have loved Within Temptation since I was 15, which was 15 years ago, and I love them just as much now as I did then. I love that they change it up. It really shows how talented they are and that they make their music based off of what matters to them and not by what some whiny babies missing old music they can listen to whenever they want already demand from them.
Within Temptation has been a huge part of my life growing up, as early as elementary school I remember listening with my older sister. I obviously love the evolution of the music! Both the old and the new is so amazing, even as different as they are from one another. Truly a band I think I will always be listening to.

Sharon looking like she's gone insane is so quirky and fun and HYPNOTIZING. The noir elements mixed in with the color and sci fi elements looks so good too. Also... now I definitely want to go watch the Lacuna Coil Nothing Stands London live clip since they both have the circus/defiance thematic too. This is the band we all know and love. I don't feel anyone has to defend WT with their music choice, but I will anyway:
They are making the music they want to make. Their music would suck and we would all hate it if they were making the music we wanted them to make. Do some people like the older music better? Of course do some people love the newer music better? Absolutely.
The important part is do THEY love the music they are making? If they are doing it to make money, I am saddened for them, if they are absolutely in love with what they accomplished, my heart is on fire with joy for them. I for one will always find part of my life that your music can be an anthem for as long as you feel for your music.
Keep making the music that expresses who you are and we will continue to find our truth in it. K ow that we ache to hear what your heart and soul has to express to us.

Somehow I feel it's pretty selfish if I wish to control the sound of the band just because I like the symphonic Era. Peoples evolve, try new things, listen to new things. It's more easy if acept that all the symphonic stuff is done and let them be happy
I actually love this band for the reason a lot of fans are angry. They change a lot, they do what they want to do with music, and I value that a lot more than keeping a constant style. If they do what they want it will be better than if they do something just because it is "their style".

А мне понравилось! Интересный эксперимент, как и весь альбом The Resist! Sharon умница, а также все остальные участники группы! Как по мне Within Temptation единственная группа, которая даже изменив свой стиль исполнения, всё ещё остаётся интересной и самобытной. Я признаю, я полюбил их за классную метал музыку и чарующий вокал Sharon, но они не захотели находиться в рамках и избрали для себя немного другой путь. Они немногие у кого это получилось сделать так, что бы остаться собой и при этом всё же стать чем-то новым для своего слушателя! Я желаю им только успеха и с нетерпением буду ждать новых свершений!

different to the music they made in the band's early years. But I like it as much as "The Unforgiving", a stunning album. 🥰
From an old school fan's perspective, I can't wait until the kids of today discover the WT back catalogue and songs like Entertain You are a gateway for the beautiful symphonic/gothic elements of The Dance, Enter, Mother Earth and The Silent Force.
From being obsessed with WT, I turned to not even buy last album. I think exactly like you. From unique sound to generic, mainstream garbage! "Tralala" music. No beauty and haunting voice from Sharon. Enter and The Dance is still to me, something of the best ever produced. Last album is crap, this song is crap. Nothing special at all. Where is my old WT... :( Just listen to and watch the Mother Earth tour DVD...that is class!

Second I said “ADD the great song and overall ONCE AGAIN, PROUD to be a fan of one of the best bands of this century.” I basically just copied and pasted my comment again to see exactly where you got any negativity out of it? I’ve been buying their albums and going to their concerts since I first got their 3 song EP ‘Enter’ around 1997 or 1998.
