I thought these documentaries where cancelled!!! Last one we saw was in October 2020 but thankfully they are back with the promise of a Story Of 1992 🥳
I believe it had been filmed, but not been released for reasons the BBC would not divulge. Probably due to presenter Adrian Rose (who presented the Nirvana edition) doing a Barbara Streisand and refusing permission for his editions to be repeated. His last edition was later in 92.
Again, thanks so much for the upload!!! I love the Story of TOTPs, this was definitely my favourite era of pop music from the UK, couldn't see TOTP in the US at the time so missed so much.. said the same comment on 1992's vid but same goes for 91 (especially, even, KLF/Seal/Shamen/Jesus Jones.. gorgeous)
Many thanks for the upload! 1991 was quite a landmark year for me - turned 13 in January and was expelled from my boarding school not long after, so the first time in years I could follow TOTP again during term time. It's really the last year also I followed TOTP and the Top 40 - my tastes were really cemented in 91 (indie, grunge, rave, hip hop) and the following year had almost nothing of interest and I kind of gave up. Some great memories from the programme (KLF especially), and some horrible ones like Bryan Adams being at number one half the year - that arrow flying into the tree is burnt into my memory. I'm still curious about the stage invaders during the Nirvana performance as nobody seems to have ever tracked them down - were they fans that were lucky to get tickets, or a deliberate plant?
That Bryan Adams song is from a movie that hardly anyone remembers. It's crazy how many of those songs there are. The song is still remembered but the movie is mostly forgotten. Weird.
oh come on, that Nirvana performance was definitly meant as a spoof. Sure there might've been some voice problems, but you can bet this was the band's plan from the start. They saw themselves as an underground rockband, alike to Sonic Youth or Mudhoney, so Top of the Pops, to them, was just this top40, industry, commercial thing. And if it was just his voice, that doesn't explain the change of the lyrics ("Load up on drugs, kill your friends") or the way the others members act. Tourlists have them even play a gig later that day in Birmingham, so if Kurt couldn't sing, why was that gig not cancelled?
Comedy is the "New rock and roll" was about The Mary Whitehouse Experience playing big venues like Wembley arena, not about Reeves and Mortimer, who I don't think managed the same. No Disrespect.
the fact that iron maiden was #1 on the first episode of top of the pops is fucking insane yet cool. it's fucking iron maiden. it is a sin to slander iron maiden.
Queen was the end of this cos of Freddie's death of course. That Scottish fella was so disrespectful. "Then that Freddie Mercury goes and dies" Like he did it deliberately

I actually love the early 90s rave sound. Its so streets of rage.
As soon as this vid is done I'm gonna play that. Thanks to your comment. Mike is about to clean up the streets!!

A band I was in supported Jesus Jones when they came to New Zealand in '91. God what a year
Thanks for the upload. Was finally able to get a song I thought was lost in time. Unfinished sympathy. Thank you...and happy new year.
Happy New Year to you also

Left school in 1990. Best times ever.
They didn't even mention how obvious Nirvana made that they weren't actually playing their instruments.
Nirvana on Top of the Pops was LEGENDARY. They did not give a single toss about the rules. Well played, Kurt Cobain!
I miss the 90s
Rozalla: wow! 30 years on and she’s looked after herself very well!
Damn. I feel old.
Love how Bill Drummond can say with a straight face that Justified and Ancient was the best record KLF ever made.
That song is so bad that it gives me cancer just to hear it
@@jessicajujubean5004 He always was a pisstaker.
Yessssss! Thank you for adding.

Wow Mike Edwards has aged about 5 years.
I had almost finished the episode fuming there was no mention of the KLF...talk about saving the best for last!

The year I got confirmed. 17/05/1991. 14 years old. Staying in Ventnor , Isle of Wight .

Not gona lie, Seal back then, looks like alot of the rappers today 👀👀
Iron Maiden?
EXCELLENT!!!
the fact that iron maiden was #1 on the first episode of top of the pops is fucking insane yet cool. it's fucking iron maiden. it is a sin to slander iron maiden.
and here I want to add a question, how did they make 3d transitions in the top of the pops?
Thank god ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
1991 was probably Super Hans' favourite year.
yeah it was no logo in the foam business.
That's when he came up with the Big Beat Manifesto.

@@moiracorrigan9922 I don't think so but if I ever get it I'll upload it.
Would be better if you used the original BBC 50 fps file instead of chopping it down to 30fps which just makes it jittery.
No
I've had to mute it until I know. Can someone tell me if Wind Of bloody Change is on this? Cos I can't stand it! Cheers anyone
I don't believe Wind Of Bloody Change is on this one, hope that helps lol
Queen was the end of this cos of Freddie's death of course. That Scottish fella was so disrespectful.
"Then that Freddie Mercury goes and dies"
Like he did it deliberately
Worst song ever!
Then Freddie goes and dies?
What a disgusting man
The early 90's were awful when it came to music. All that repetitive shite rave/dance stuff. Yawn. Thank fuck for Nirvana.
