The issue was never that Lab was banned.
The issue is that because Gage spends his time cultivating a few, powerful cards (easily ruined by a banning) he diversified into 3 different strats (Dino, DPE, Lab).
By adding a couple extra bans it undoes exactly what he planned for and took many losses to get to.
Not to mention, if Lab was as problematic as they said it was, they would have used their normal bans to get rid of it. Instead, they banned other cards since they had already conspired to hit Labrynth during the surprise bans.

For those who don't understand the argument. It's a matter of prospective.
Some people saying it's fine are looking at it with the prospective of Lab being a nuissance and that Nym shouldn't have gone so deep and lot's of other reasons it's fine that it got hit hard.
The other prospective is looking at the series as a whole and that Nym got hit twice as hard as everyone else. This side says Rexturm shouldn't have been banned if Lab was such a problem.
Personally I side with the latter.
Can't wait for Gas Leak 3, 4 and 5, coming right up.

The biggest issue with the blind bans is that they unbalance the game going into the next frame. If two players team up on one player... that one player can only hit back at one of them.
Meaning one player takes two hits, and one player takes zero hits... meaning one player gets kneecapped, and one player gets a huge advantage over the other two.
As we saw here. Gage got banned to hell, Farfa saw all his strategies take some hits, and Doug ended up with completely untouched earth machines to roll over them with.
See, I understand what you mean yet also like the idea behind it.
I think the best way to go about something like this is that whoever gets a card banned during the shadow ban is able to craft a card(s) from the new pack of equal or lower rarity to the card(s) that are banned from them.
With the person doing the banning not getting the benefit from that obviously.
I think that'd make it a lot more interesting going forward, and it'd help to make it so that the ban list still forces a deck change while we don't (hopefully) see anyone (Gage) playing day 1 saga cards again.
earth machine was honestly not that great if doug also didn't just happen to open the therion pack and craft regulus. the limit to goliath matters more than most people think
It is entirely Gage's fault for going too hard in on one deck.
Farfa's dumbass pulls in the Striker/Mathmech pack have been egregious too, and I'd like to call for a rule change (2 pulls per pack maximum, think of it as presidential terms if you have to) next season to address it. HOWEVER, to illustrate my point, AT LEAST that pack is split, meaning that he's essentially putting 2 pulls into each deck, whereas Gage put 3 into Lab alone.
These aren't three random players off the street, these are three content creators who are also friends and decent players. They're not going to just randomly bully someone. If they team up on one person it's going to be because that person got off easier compared to their other opponent and/or is generally the bigger threat.
EDIT: anyways, it's a dumb overcomplicated idea regardless. If it were me, the only balancing mechanism would be to give an advantage (extra ban or limit, or maybe just extra packs) to whoever had the worst record going into the banlist episode. I really miss the "your record determines your number of bans" mechanic present in older seasons.
ALSO Doug is the only person making cool decks, sooooooooo he deserves to win get fucked.

the only redeeming thing about this is that this is a series for fun with friends.

If anyone wants to know, I was the guy on MPB in the imposter duel. I was in fact playing an LCS deck because it seemed funny.
I laughed when watching the episode normally, but with MBT added in I was cracking up. Anyway, glad they decided to fix it the way they did. Cause I def didn't want those lab cards in play, but it also sucked for gage to get so singled out.

I actually dont mind the idea of of the extra bans i just dont think they should be a secret. Like the reason people were upset wasnt because they happened but because one person got 2 hits. They ethier just need to add 2 more normal bans to balance it out or have a third party do the banning. Let the editor ban some cards that would be funny
People aren't even upset that one person got 2 cards banned. They are upset that Gage specifically got 2 cards banned. IMO, he got punished for going into one of the worst packs in the game 3 times, and it was deserved as that deck is incredibly boring to watch and play against.
@@ChaosDragonHe got twice as many cards banned as everyone else for no reason other than Dzeef and Farfa miscommunicated and both thought they were supposed to be the one hitting Lab. How does that make sense from a balancing prospective.
I didn't want to see Lab as much as anyone else but he got blindsided by a rule he could have never planned around.

If the "secret" ban was secret it would have been less destructive, but because they openly talked about sabotaging gage on stream viewers reacted by complaining on Twitter and things got resolved.
the ban list thing was such a huge over reaction gage has no one to blame but himself for over investing in so few strategies. people so paranoid about the bans being conspired when they would have been caught on stream and its litrally between friends not everyone is a asshole to their friend.
They were caught on stream while gage was away, fans complained about the obvious ganging up, gage got to ban 2 cards at the start of the next episode.
Look up the context before making it seem like it was coincidence.
Zipper merging simply does not work. Plain and simple.
It only works in a world where EVERY SINGLE CAR ON THE ENTIRE FUCKING ROAD is on the exact same page literally 100% of the time. On paper, it actually is the best way to do it, but we don't live on paper. We live in reality.
And in reality, not only is every car not on the same page, most of them aren't even reading the same fucking book. Some of them aren't reading at all. Some of them are just holding the book upside down and pretending to read while they doom scroll on Twitter.
And thus, when attempting a zipper merge, you have people that will do all kinds of stupid shit to get one car length further ahead. Using the emergency lane. Cutting people off. Literally pushing smaller cars out of the way. Run people off the road. Floor the gas pedal to speed in front of the car trying to merge. Need I go on?
Zipper merging doesn't work because it requires a level cooperation between dozens or even hundreds of strangers that most people can't accomplish even with there closest and oldest friends. Cooperation of an absolutely storybook utopian caliber. It simply is not possible.

Banning poly is like banning Mountain lands in MTG. Sure it is impactful, but it also ruins the game.
I didn't comment initially cause I saw Doug was already getting pounded but it was terrible timing if it was planned ahead of time, given that Gage was still in last place and ended up getting 4 cards banned on top of limits, but I also think giving Gage 2 bans to Doug and 1 to Farfa was a tad of an overcorrection but necessary if the argument is that banning to this degree is needed to facilitate new deck making, which can only be so true if there is a banning every 5 episodes (now with Wild Bans every 10 being even more of a factor).

What made it so controversial, is that the stream they done was both the previous episode and this one, gage went to the toilet and Doug and farfa talked and planned about hitting different lab targets. The fact that the "new banning feature" was very last minute thing all because gage tried to team up with farfa and Doug took that personally enough to drop a secret ban but also communicate with farfa beforehand to hit separate targets, it was very underhanded and obviously fans didn't like that. But it gets sorted. So it's all fine
I'm not a gage fan but the people here genuinly can not think it's fair that gage got 4 cards banned because of an extra rule that was never discussed in an episode while Dzeef only got 2 cards banned. Right? Anyone should obviously see how unfair that is when every single banlist has allways had eveyone get the same ammount of cards banned.

@@Jv615 yeah true and that's why Gage went into the DPE pack so even if they banned his Lab stuff he would still have a strategy to fall back on but the wild card thing came out of nowhere to send Gage's plan into the gutter.
Doug and farfa literally talked mid stream when gage was away "I'll hit lady you hit welcome" (the stream was this episode and the previous one in 1 large stream)
It would had been fine if they didn't talk about the targets, but they openly talked about it, fans reacted, gage got extra bans the next episode due to the backlash
Nothing against Nyhmnim but i feel he came into this looking to win when zeef and farfa are already 2 seasons in acting all chill and trying to have silly fun but had to go harder because Nyhm went hard
Gaige had one lady, one welcome and the other labyrinth trap no one uses hit to one but it's too strong says MBT, I think it was the maliciousness of it more than anything
It being "malicious" implies that it was planned. The whole point of it is that there are three surprise bans to give a little bit of spice to the usual tenth episode double ban list. It wasn't overly well thought out, sure, but clearly both Doug and Farfa thought Labyrinth was too good, and to be fair, it was. They just got lucky and banned two different cards. They easily could have both banned the same card

i actually got mad at farfa when i watched this episode. he has n/r crafts, but he wants to high roll the sky striker/mathmech pack for urs, and he's already gone into this pack 3 times before this
i get throwing for content can be funny, but like.... this ain't it

@@JoeLikesBlue i genuinely don't understand where the gage defence squad came from, literally every gage fan I know constantly shits on the guy over prog for the past like 4 years (though still cheering for the eventual age of gage, one can't help but root for the guy as an underdog vs Cimo's insane luck)
That said I think keeping the system for the next 2+ bannings is simply in gage's best interest cause being targetted week 1 means he'll be immune to future wildcard bannnings out of fear that the wrath of the gage defenders will descend upon douglas zeef.

I would defend anyone of them if this were to occur again, I hate wild bans, the base bans were perfectly fine on their own.
