@@elnarthanato1932 Are you serious? I can't believe there are people who sell food but don't care about taste. If they do that, the food they sell will not sell well.
It's so heartwarming watching your kids eat Putu Ayu, it's a traditional desert that's kind of hard to come by now, actually. Putu Ayu is probably a childhood dish for many, because the whistle from the steamer is a cue for kids to go outside and call out the seller (who usually walks around the neighborhood bringing his cart). In Javanese Putu could mean "grandchild" (informal Javanese) or "circle/round" (formal Javanese) and Ayu means "pretty", it's probably called that way because it's itty bitty and round and pretty ☺️ it could also be interpreted as a cute grandchild to some xD
The kembang tahu (literally means tofu flower), the tofu is basically a pudding of the extract of soya beans before it processed further into common tofu (which is adding acids (usually acetate) that then make it more solid). 11:50 usually made from rice &/ glutinuous-rice flour mixed with pandan leaves extract & little bit water 18:00 additional explanation from the lady, the coconut milk & asian bayleaves & lemon grass mixed to the rice before boiling the rice. Malaysian nasi lemak is more oily than Indonesian nasi uduk, and they both tasty, great even with only slices of fried tempe & tofu not to mention with fried meat.. 😋 22:59 & 24:27 in Javanese, siji means one / satu, brambang means onion / bawang. In Indonesia, all allium called bawang (literally onion) and followed by other words to differentiate it from one to another (bawang merah = shallots, bawang putih = garlic, bawang bombay = onions, bawang daun/daun bawang = spring onions). 31:00 there's no smoothie here in Indonesia, we call it all juice (jus). 😁 PS: hope I don't annoy you with my comment 😅
also, want to add more about nasi uduk & lemak. nasi uduk is a FIXED MENU. Usually consist of coconut rice, tempe, teri(anchovies), peanut, egg(thin sliced omelete egg or the spicy hard boiled egg)rice noodle/vermicelli, and noodle. oh and also kerupuk but it's not a must have in nasi uduk. but some nasi uduk sellers also add some side dish to increase the price more. like.. fried chicken(indonesian style. not the western flour fried chicken) but nasi lemak is like... what indonesians here call "nasi rames/warteg". nasi lemak is like.. coconut rice, but the side menu is free to choose. vegetable dish, fried chicken, and more. nasi lemak dont have fixed menu.

I usually prepare myself with the country's language before visiting but at the same time this minimum understanding of the local language is really interesting. You get to interact with local people and really shows how people can be so friendly and helpful. Hiji means one in Sundanese. The regional language is mostly used in West Java. Almost similar to it is Siji = one in Javanese language and it is mostly used in Central and East Java.

Sorry to say but imho it is a common thing in Indonesia that after the street singers have tipped a penny, they will leave. Most of us don't really like our moment of enjoying a meal disturbed by a loud singing. We just sometimes need a peaceful time and quality conversation while enjoying meal on the table. But, sometimes street singers have an outstanding voice so we enjoy to listen them first after few seconds / minutes and give some pennies to make them leave.
Just finished watching the "pengamen" awkward moment and suddenly I'm aware of our different culture. Goshh, I just found out how generous we are to street singers 😂
The first dish has an original Indonesian name called Tahu Tauwa or Tahu Takwa. Its Chinese name is ToFuLa from Douhua/Touhua, Douhua means brain soup which I think It is inaccurate. It is looks like brain but It is just Tofu not even brains 😅 . In some place the gingery taste are too strong. I'm agree with that. Been really hard finding the balance taste between the tofu and the ginger broth. Maybe in Surabaya there is one balanced taste cause I'd been living there for 4 years and taste some. But, some place in Indonesia especially Java Island, it's cheaper, around $0.4 per serving.
You ate all of my favorite comfort foods at once! Kembang tahu (love the warmth of the ginger and the melt tofu), cilok (always get it whenever I find a seller nearby), putu (the whistle is unique to those sellers), klepon (love when the brown sugar explodes inside my mouth), and finish all of them with a sweet and high-calorie avocado juice XD Great choice, Jonathan and family!

It seems that you're having difficulty finding vegeterian food for your wife. Its quite easy; gado-gado is everywhere, a spinoff especially in West Java is karedok, its gado gado but the vegetable is fresh, there is urap, its vegetable with coconut saving, in West Java there is pecel, its like gado gado but together with fried meat (empal), egg (omelet, sunny side up), the peanut sauce is rather course. If you go to Yogya gudeg is mainly young jackfood, gulai nangka is jackfruit curry, there is casava curry. In chinese food restaurant there are vegetarian dishe brocolly, kailan etc.
Each region has its version the green is from pandan leaves, the sugary thing is brown sugar from palm, the flour can be from rice flour or tapioca flour. All the ingredients are available every where.

IDR 200k is actually a lot for street food, should try IDR 50K-70K for 5 of you next time haha. Great video and good choice of "snacks".
Btw, how could you manage to take all those stuff after big meal in the mall? 🤣
last three are indonesian power food for a day : Nasi Uduk, Ayam Penyet, and avocado juice for health. kue putu is a good option if u want to avoid dinner but need to fill stomach before the rest. please do relaxation with your family as well, take care sir
Sukses terus dan selalu semangat buat keluarga yang bahagia ini.
Each region has its version the green is from pandan leaves, the sugary thing is brown sugar from palm, the flour can be from rice flour or tapioca flour. All the ingredients are available every where.

The taste of the Indonesian nation in terms of culinary was carried abroad and became a gold field that brought it to life.
hello sir, I'm your new fan from East Nusa Tenggara, if you had a chance and planning to visit East Nusa Tenggara, you should try "Se'i Sapi/Se'i Babi" or it called local smoked beef and pork from East Nusa Tenggara, that food tasted so delicious and I could guarante it's just wonderful
That sounds delicious!
@@BagsPackedFamily The Green Ball is KLEPON.
Klepon originally from Jawa (Javanese), and it spread around Indonesia. Its modify with various versions, different name in other regions thoughout Indonesia.
Javanese is the biggest and maybe the oldest civilization in Indonesia.
You are incredible Sir, taking your wife and children to enjoy the food of Indonesian cuisine is a wonderful, wonderful family
It's some of the best food in the world!
I can assume you guys were in Thamrin, nearby Plaza Indonesia back then. I would like to recommend you to go to Blok M anda Glodok area for more street food experiences. Ah! Also, Pasar Senen for some traditional snacks/cake. A new subs here!
In Indonesia, those musicians are called pengamen. They will soon leave you after you give them some tips. You can find more than one person or group come to you for tip in only one public space. so you need to prepare some loose changes, because sometimes they are become really annoying 😄
Kue Putu is one of the popular traditional Indonesian snacks, from East Java... the taste is very good and delicious, I also really like Putu Cake fans👌

I think putu bambu was originally from East Java but already known nation wide. There is putu made from ketan (sweet black rice) in Sulawesi so they made them without sugar. Btw I miss putu but cannot find them in Australia 😂
your kids honest review is ✨ everything✨ 😀
Masih banyak kuliner indonesia yang sedap👍👍👍 selamat mencoba
I hope you always find a good people along you travel
Your children are so adorable and they're very blessed to have you both as parents, raising them with so much love and rich life experiences since very early.
When they're grow up, I believe they will have great personalities who appreciate cultural diversities and that's a very valuable provision.
God bless you all ❤️
