I was an 11 year old boy in 1966 comin home from school. I put the key in the lock , opened the door and there was my big brother Gerry on the bed watchin Superman . He just got done with basic and advanced training as a member of the 173rd Airborne . He was shipped out to Vietnam one week later. He gave me a big hug and I was so happy 2 see him. One year later a big black car / limousine came 2 pick me and my family up 4 a ride. All I remember after that was a flag draped casket, 21 gun salute and a bug L er blowing Taps. Gerry was being laid 2 rest with full military honors. I dedicate this song 2 Gerry and his Co N rades who paid the ultimate sacrifice ,
Nov.21,1867 DakTo vietnam.Vietnam., Hill 875.Fifty five years later that 11 year old boy is now 66. This video hit me in ways that you just don't know! I hope that my big brother Gerry, " my hero"., is resting peacefully with his buddies from the 173rd on that mountain above! Thank You guys Godbless!
Note : The date above 1867 is incorrect of course. The correct date is 1967.

I lost my husband of 15 years the day after Valentine's Day, 2021.
He had found this song after his dad died. He said it reminded him of his dad, and his uncle who had died in Vietnam. He listened to it several times over the years.
When he had a heart attack, he started listening to it several times a day until a second heart attack took him a month later. It was like he was giving himself permission to go in peace. 😢

The ultimate sacrifice. My great grandfather and grandfather both served. World War II and the Korean War. Those generations were no doubt the men that built this country. We can learn so much from them. We are entitled to nothing and nothing is promised. Someone laid it down for us. Don’t forget that. Pay respects to the ones that walked before us. Stay up god bless

I wish to thank this group for their hurt-felt songs. I happen to be a three time Vietnam Veteran that had lost hope and didn't expect to return home. I left for war in ChuLai in 1966,.Then returned in 1967 and stayed over into 1968 to serve in the Hue/PhuBai area during the Tet offensive. Only to return again to Danang in 1969 for several months prior to my discharge. Shortly after my discharge my Bay girl passed away of crib death and I suffered for many years. Now, at 75, I have finally found some piece. With a great deal of help of my mental condition. I have regain feelings and emotions and thoroughly enjoy the heart felt music of this group. Than You one and all...

I’m 78 years old and still learning everyday from His word. 1st Peter 5:6-8 says “ Therefore humble yourselves Under the mighty hand of God, and He will exalt you at the proper time. Casting all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you. Be of a sober spirit and be on the alert, for your adversary, the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” May your walk with Christ strengthen everyday as you mature in His word.🙏

My son has been fighting a heart defect his entire life. 4 open heart surgeries, and multiple hospital admissions and other minor surgeries. September 2019 he had his final surgery along with a pacemaker placement right before his third birthday. He was given a 75 percent chance of making it to his 5th birthday. Recently he suffered his second minor stroke and right now I am praying that he doesn't contract this virus because it would be deadly for him. I have been planning a life for him and his funeral his whole life. This song is what I had picked out for him because the lyrics resonate so deep with me. This version is the version I would pick. Thank you so much for this song! You did an awesome job and God Bless you All!

Every time you look in the mirror, he is right there staring back at you. Every time you use a skill, he taught you, he will be right there watching you and smiling at your mastery of that skill. I just said to my husband, there isn’t enough respect for what others have suffered and endured for my freedoms. We don’t teach civics. There is little American history in our schools. It’s like a couple start a business, their child might keep it going, the next generations take it for granted. They don’t put the work into it, it doesn’t make it in a few generations. I pray our country doesn’t have the same outcome. Don’t take the gifts you’ve been given for granted. You will miss them when they are gone. God please bless America

when Vince Gill released this song, it hit me very hard. I had, as a soldier, sent way too many good men home under the flag. it also burned with images of my father, who after surviving Viet Nam, fell to cancer after almost 3 years fighting it. I had talked to my son about having that be played at any services when my time comes. after hearing this version, with the inclusion of Amazing grace, and the superb harmonizing, I talked to him again, and said no, THIS is the version I want played at any services held for me. May 23rd 2018, ten days after his 26th birthday our only child was taken from us by a blood clot. The image burned into my soul is him lying on the floor as I give him CPR and wait for paramedics to arrive. I write this with tears streaming and blurred vision. I have never been moved by song as much as I have been moved by your cover of Vince. You are an amazing group with amazing voices and harmony. God willing and my broken heart holds out I will be able to see you live in Cincy the 23rd of August. The purity of your sound/voices need to be shared with all. Bless you for what you do and thank you from a broken father.

I want you to know, your child is fine, and you will see him again, in all his glory of a new shiny body and a brilliant welcoming smile.
I had a near death experience at age 10. There is no pain or suffering in the Light.

I’m an old man, retired from the Army and from multiple wars. My family is full of soldiers. My name is Jeff. I’ve literally, been all over the globe. Know this, when we’re away from home, we know where home is. I’m medical and have truly, personally sensed the young soldiers who gave so much, for our home, our precious, beautiful, loving home. Whether financially successful or not, we are not losers and suckers. We love this land and would do it again. God be with you. Kentucky

Just found your group tonight. This is the second song I listened to. I'm a vet with over 20 years service. Have had friends and family who made the ultimate sacrifice in service and several who could not longer fight their demons after coming home. Wondered many times why them and not me. Right now it's so I can remember them and honor them as you have done for so many with your music. Thank you.

#GrumpyOldSailor Tell their stories, and tell your own, to friends, family, and anyone who will listen. I buried my father 16 years ago this month, and my one true regret is that I did not record his stories about his service in WW2, while he was alive. He was a AAA gunner and later a combat engineer, and I loved to listen to his stories of the war and his little part in it. People need to hear about those little parts, as that's what makes up the bigger story. I choke up every time I hear this song, no matter who sings it, as it always reminds me of him. Thank you, sir.

I am very thankful for this song; and the attitude of most Americans towards their military men and women. When I came home in January 1970 my reception was significantly. And it burns my soul to this day. It was much much different than today.
