Quite the snapshot of life in the Netherlands. Gotta love the freight line to Germany with the highway and bikeway passing underneath, the blikvanger @45:45 and all those mothers on bikes. Can't have a higher recommendation for the safety of your roads than to see all those women on bikes with kid seats in the back. Beautiful work Mark! Thanks.
Thank you for another ride through your wonderful country. This time I wasn't so envious because I've done two 14.5 mile rides on my Stealth Mobility Vehicle (my e-bike!) in perfect Kentish Easter sunshine. I've finally learnt how to find your blog and I'm so pleased to hear that your operation went smoothly and you're recovering well. Listening to your body is a good habit, one which I have struggled to aquire but fighting against it does not help I can confirm. Good luck with your continued recovery, look after yourself and we'll see you back out there very soon. 👍😊 (I thought the bike sounded different, now I know it was a rental😁)
Another great ride for us at home on rollers getting our daily ride even if it has to be stationary, and a wonderful look at the marvellous Dutch transportation infrastructure. Dank U wel. (nice long ride too!) Thank you also for the real sounds of the road from the tires on the path to the winds and the traffic around you. It's like being there.
It's newly built, not renovated. The old Doornroosje concert venue at the Groenestraat now houses "de Basis" a center for pop bands and other music entrepreneurs.
@@nomchowski8297 You are correct I now realise. The venue was opened end of 2014. The location is very convenient as I lived in Amsterdam and had to leave 15 minutes before the end of the show to catch the last train for Amsterdam.
Notice how just before the 30 minute mark the road and bike path are made to go from parallel to a 90 degree angle at the actual crossing. This way drivers and cyclists can see each other.
Hello. Thanks for your video and the effort it took to make. As I watched this video I listened to a Baseball game on the radio (in the States) and ate dinner.... perfect.
Yeah, but their is something else which got lost along the way: real natural nature. We've build pretty much all of it. You might see a forest and think: nature. Well, kind of: we planted those trees. So yes, nature, but not natural. That is something we Dutch realized to late.
These cycling highways follow the concept of regular highways: more or less the shortest, most direct route between places and therefore generally in close proximity to eachother. Purely functional and efficient for a fast commute for instance. There are plenty of quieter or more beautifull alternatives to be found but in general that does mean a small detour. It's good to have choices...
Two interesting looking tandems at 3:35 that appear to have the rear riders (the only ones on them) steering. Are these intended to have children at the front?
Lots of work in progress, they have to clean that. If a farmer leaves his muddy field and gets it on the public road, a biker Comes along and falls, the farmer is liable for all damages.
I appreciate the showcase, but I don't think you picked the quickest route. You could have gone straight at 42:21 and continue onwards - which I also understand to be F325. That way, you could have taken a cycling roundabout that sits nestled and lowered in a car roundabout. Ow well, maybe next time :)
Fortunately more and more are becoming electric and people are buying them less and less because theres now electric ones you can rent on almost every corner. But i do agree, its actually the worst being stuck behind one at a red light
I agree with you about the annoying scooters, but although the electric ones solve the noise problem, they introduce a new one. Pedestrians cannot hear them coming and that is causing accidents. The scooter problem has yet to be solved…

É impressionante como vocês tem ciclovias funcionais e de ótima qualidade
Doornroosje 0:37, I remember visiting the concert of Fink in 2015. The acoustic of the renovated Doornroosje were fantastic.

The WWII monument (31:13) marks the limit of the allied advance from the south during Operation Market Garden. Just shows what a close thing it was.

The Dutch started with a swamp and have created easily the best built environment in the world.

There is a 'forest' not far from my house it used to be huge but nowadays It r Just trees planted in rows
Although the infrastructure is top-notch, the noise pollution from motorways is unavoidable in the Netherlands too on certain routes

Yes

I need to take also this route. It is only 6 kilometers longer than from my village to arnhem. From my dorp to Arnhem is 12 kilometers
The lower camera positioning makes it harder to see over the railings and makes me feel a bit queezy.

What is the speed limit for the scooters on these bicycle paths.
25 km/p/h I believe.
