Thank you so much for this video. I am currently waiting to begin my first year in pharmacy school and have always known I wanted to pursue hospital pharmacy. This video has motivated me even more. It's not about the money, its about the quality of the career, and I definitely believe hospital pharmacy is the best option :)
Hi, thank you for the informative video! Just a few points to add, community pharmacists do get to do clinical diploma as well under the NHS Integration Fund which is available to all pharmacists. There are much more clinical exposure in community pharmacies these days than just MUR & NMS - at my pharmacy I run Warfarin Clinic where I test patient's INR and dose their warfarin, ENT & UTI Clinics where I carry out assessment & test and prescribe antibiotics where appropriate under the PGDs and Travel Health Clinic where I get to vaccinate and prescribe antimalarial tablets. There are many other community pharmacies that offer these or even more clinical services! 😄 Hope these information add values to those who want to know more about community Xx
Hi, Another point to mention. There is a massive difference between chain pharmacies and independents in the community. I run a small independent and family ran pharmacy in Scotland. My technicians are on over £17.50 per hour, my dispensers over $12 and MCAs start at £10.50. The pharmacists earn a huge amount more than the likes of lloyds pay if they are good at their job. We also offer more holidays than the multiples or the NHS. With those pay scales, we have no staff turnover, a well staffed and veteran team behind the pharmacist. Just thought i'd mention that your experience with a multiple does not reflect everything in the community. plus, we have chairs!!!
@@johnboyle2691 Hi, We aren't part of a chain. My mother and I own and run a single branch independent pharmacy in Hawick in the Scottish Borders - T.N. Crosby chemist. It has always worked well for us to pay decent wages and have more staff than an average pharmacy. It means we have highly dedicated and excellently trained staff, no staff turnover, we can poach the best people from elsewhere when we want to, and enough staff to provide a very fast and efficient service which gains us more business. We are probably a minority, but i didn't want to be numbered among the bad places to work in the community!! If a patient hands over a script for an acute antibiotic or the likes, they can expect to wait about 2 minutes before the medication is handed back to them. p.s. my staff all got a pay rise since my first comment .
I worked as a community pharmacist for 2 years and I was happy in the beginning but then I realized I can't bear the bad supervisor I have and you know selling and angry customer, now I am looking forward to being a hospital pharmacist, I think I will be good in it, I don't know, still confused thank you and I am so glad that I found your channel
Working extra hours oncall, poor pay, 2.5 yrs of extra studying, evenings, night and weekend work, always short staffed. Pharmacy gets blamed for everything. Constantly chasing drs up, then its us that gets blamed for taking long. Staff dont like us on wards and managers dont like us in the office. Parking is a nightmare too.

Dear KOREginA London Pharmacist, thank you for interesting video! Could you add video about changing professional responsibilities for hospital pharmacists 7, 8 and 9, please? What is the role of more trained hospital pharmacist in the clinical team? I am especially interested in which functions of the doctor top pharmacist may carry. In your video doctor, your friend, said, she don't know some specific scheme of treatment and pharmacist helps with this. Are doctors not enough educated, as concern pharmacotherapy? From the other side, almost in all videos devoted hospital pharmacist, and community also, there is pointed that all clinical roles of pharmacist may be done by the physician, but doctor is overloaded. Is it only one reason to establish this new pharmacist speciality? What do you think about this? As concern my country pharmacists don't develop clinical competences.
