Aww MacCenna… I figured you would have already known this… but for the future.
Tips from a Parisian thrifter: when you get to Paris check with the Post Office near where your are staying. They have flat rate crates and boxes for you to ship your goodies back home. Usually the big furniture needs containers and is thousands… but for the types of things you guys were getting… we usually go crazy and barely fill up a crate worth $250. Weight doesn’t matter and it usually gets home before we do. You even get tracking info. We fill up our luggage with some bubble wrap from home to put in some extra cushion for the crate so we don’t have to buy packing materials at the post office. We ask our Airbnb host for a trolley to take to the market. She’s always happy to leave some good trolleys (she understands how much we love the flea). Parisians do a lot of walking to market for groceries so they are readily avail. It makes for a fun trip.

PS. When they ask you how much you’ll pay… start at 25€ to 50 €. They ask to gauge how much money you have in your wallet. It’s an indicator that he’ll make the sale. If he looks insulted he’s not. Go up in increments of 10€to 20€. Oil is a dime a dozen in Paris… When you accepted 150 € for the bigger one to him 130 was okay because it was “a little smaller)… Next time you say… how much for 1? He says 150€… I’ll give you that for 2. He’ll say 200€ for 2. 180 €sold😉 That 5€ to10€ art… assume it’s buy 1 get 2 free.
For amazing original art… go to Rue de Montparnasse…littered with artists selling original works for less than 20 € often wayyyy wayyy less.
Everything on the edge of the flea is way more expensive (on the outskirts see the tourists comin’)…ask food vendors & fellow shoppers for where the well priced goodies are. Ask fellow shoppers when you’re new: Are you from Paris? what do you think of this… in terms of €… where can I get more?they’ll tell ya 😉…and the vendor will hear and give you a good price.

Last minute thoughts: Ask your host to leave you a note with a lovely cafe for coffee in the morning. Often the host will know some of the owners around the area & will let them know their guests are coming. They’ll be expecting you and makes for a lovely trip and homey feel to go to your local cafe and have some “friends” waiting. You are often introduced to some lovely locals in the process who are happy to share all the treasure troves of the flea ;) Helps to get some free welcome to Paris croissants… and people who will be elated to help you practice your French.

I had the same reaction, I’m hoping that it’s because they got tired of drinking at local coffee shops and wanted a taste from home? Either way I personally don’t like Starbucks, but I’m biased because I’m from Puerto Rico and we make great coffee in my opinion of course 🤣❤
I’m sure it was just for convenience. She did say most places open later than they do in the states.

Love the vlog and really appreciate the French song!!! Your spoon rest is made in Alsace in the east part of France and it is the typical style of Alsatian artisanal pottery with the bright colors and delicate flowers . I have a green pie dish in that style . It is well reknown in France … so very unique and authentic !!!

I live in Strasbourg in Alsace and I can see that the blue dish for the spoon is from Alsace and made by the well known poterie maker Siegfried Burger, identified by the symbol in the middle that looks like S B. The 064 probably means that it is number 64 of that design. Enjoy the rest of your stay!

As part of my ancestry is French (Demeritt) of course France in on my list. My understanding is our family came from Normandy region. Your vlogs almost make me feel like I'm there with you. Living in France, it feels so weird to see landscapes I know so well in your vlog. 😊
A lot of the things we see in Paris flee market (which is quite an expensive one), we’ve grown up with in France and are kind of associated with our grandparents house or special family pieces we transmit throughout generations. It definitely doesn’t change anything about the value but may be less exceptional for us.
The best flees are hidden in smaller town on the country where you can find real deals but they don’t have the same amount of ornate or truly vintage pieces.
By the way, the little blue pot was about a little town (really old and charming) in the south of France where they’ve been cultivating salt for centuries. Those little pots are designed ton put on your counter with salt in it (mainly coarse salt).
At 37:30,the floral arrangement above the restaurant awnings was beautiful.👏

I love your logo for this series - it fits so well. I admire your ability to keep moving for the entire day. I would have sat down at every second or third coffee shop, ordered a coffee and a pastry, and watched people for at least 30 minutes before moving on. Thanks for the footage on Versailles - it brings back memories of a young me on my first trip to Europe (1973 / 1974).

Omg Macenna!! That little pot for salt is from Gruissan, literally where I spent all my summers growing up, it’s the cutest place with wooden chalets on stilts overlooking the Mediterranean sea 🧡 it made me tear up when you picked it up!

I was in Paris the day the Notre Dame caught fire. We saw it in the morning and that evening my husband and I (fiancé at the time) went up to the Eiffel Tower and saw black smoke in the distance. He told me it was the Notre Dame and I thought he was crazy. So surreal knowing we were some of the last tourists to be inside it for a very long time.

Your cute spoon holder is from Alsace in France, a beautiful city bordering Black Forest in Germany, where we live. The city name is carved into the ceramic and this is mostly done by individuals who does this kind of things in the area.
