I know how to turn on "Power Saving Mode" where the screen goes mostly black, but that doesn't seem to be the same thing, as I generate no white souls and don't get a popup upon returning like you show in the video that explicitly says "Auto Hunting Rewards".

You start the game with Auto-Hunting. Sounds like you gotta wait for an update.
