Amapiano is going to have a harder time breaking into the US market because South Africa is not as populated as Nigeria. South Africa doesn't have a strong enough diaspora. They would need a bigger artist from the afrobeat scene to help them break in amapiano.

Thanks to our radio that censored us and due to years of conditioning, artists self-censor when making music. Hence positive songs, that uplifts the soul. Couldn't get airplay back then on Nigerian radio. Now it's like normal to sing positive while vulgarity is frowned upon in our music space. I won’t lie, it’s sad to see the state of hiphop. As an African I grew up heavily influenced by the early 2000 hiphop and RnB and I honestly think the peak of this golden age of music was 2016/17 and kind of 2018ish. But if we are being honest, ever since then it has all been the same sound and subject matter which is literally boring and hard to sonically digest. Not to mention there’s literally to many artists out there and it’s not like they are producing a different type of sound but just a variation of a sound we’re already familiar with. Like every artist coming out from the states just sounds like the artist we been hearing all these years. All that is say, the music industry in America is dead. It’s all about first week numbers, who out sold who, who has more streams and who said what in what song. There’s literally no investment into the artistic craft in order to produce quality content. So now the world is turning to a new sound which soothes the soul with a almost tranquil yet jovial and jubilant vibe to it which is Afro beats and or Amapiano.

But remember hip hop and music by African Americans is a big influence on the music. New hip hop can learn from afrobeats to learn how to evolve the art.
