I got to skate with Neen yesterday morning at Lot 11 and he was seriously one of the nicest people ever. We got to session some flat ground and he taught me how to varial heel, which is one of my favorite tricks that I never could figure out. It goes without saying that it was sick just to watch him skate flat, and the rest of the Deathwish crew that were there were also incredibly kind and absolutely shredded.
Great guest! I lost over 150lbs from just starting to skate again and learning about watching what I eat. What Neen preaches is so true about just doing and eating what you like in a smart way. If you do that you wont get burned out and you will be able to skate for as long as you want to! Which I think is all of our goal! Thanks for the episode guys!
I can second that Neen does in fact love helping skaters better themselves. Hes responded to everything ive ever asked him with in depth responses. What a G, what a legend!
Exactly. Turmeric prevents joint pain. Cinnamon keeps blood pressure low. Ginger boosts your immune system. IMO the macros keep you moving but it's the micros that make you excel.
I grew up watching Neen skate in person he’s definitely a person I look up to and admire !!!! Keep it up Neen , thanks NineClub for another great episode . . . 312!!!!
Went to the opening of NADC in Chicago cause am local and to this day it was the BEST burger I have ever had. Meeting Neen and asking about the process and being able to witness it is definitely one of my favorite memories I look back on a lot. Good shit
Yep, I always got grilled for having a job, working out hard, and going sober! Now I’m the only one still going and healthy, and got everything I want in life
Same! Started skating at 12 in ‘04 and lifting weights at 16. Always said squatting heavy is what gave me hella pop and made sessions on stairs not as taxing. My friends would just call me gorilla arms haha
I was making fun of my friend who was going to the gym 15 years ago… Now I’m 35, overweight and it was getting too hard to skate so it’s been a year I train in the gym 3 times a week and I can skate like before now. Clearly I had a big lack of knowledge and was judgy, I guess everyone do mistake and I regret I thought like this before… But at least I changed my mind and this is the most important ^^
Such a great pod. Loved neen since I was 15 and I’m 22 now almost 23, such an inspiration in skating and life and fitness…today is the day where I really mark shit down and change….I sobered from what I was doing 40 days and it will keep going until I feel it’s okay to dabble…but other then that my bank account , fitness and friends are more important and most importantly my self…an amazing episode and looking so much forward to another one…
I found this skater later on from a healthy working out and nutrition clip. I was inspired by that clip and would rewatch it whenever it would come into mind.
Shoutout the Heel flippers 🔥 Lindsey Robertson and Dubs are why I became a heel flipper in the early 2000s and still to this day.. But Neen may have the best heel flip of all time 💯
I can attest Neens ladder workout app is rad! Been awesome keeping the mobility going while adding some size at the age of 30. What ever keeps me on the board.
Need is the embodiment of what we all need to strive for. i get that can be an opinion, but yall cant tell me how tranquil the world would be if we Lived Like Neen 🙏
The end where Neen breaks down the chapters of a skaters life and it hit home. 35 y/o in my own house with a wife, kids, pets, and I still skate at least once a week. I love skateboarding and I’m glad we have a show (its THE SHOW) for our community. Love you all and keep ripping dudes.
I remember seeing him bail a heelflip at skatepark on south side of Chicago, and saying “that kid’s gonna be good” circa 2001 Then seeing his part in uprise video around April 2002
I’m also from the area and grew up watching him. I went to the video premiere of A Midwest Video, probably 2002-2003. I thought it was so cool when later down the road I started hearing his name connected to the big companies in skateaboarding. I’m not gonna lie tho it’s been kinda disappointing to rarely see any new tricks from him over the years. When i watched his skating back from when he was still living in Illinois he had a pretty nice variety. He had some switch tricks, had some decent kickflip variation stuff, wasn’t bad with the ledges and had a good variety on handrails. Since he’s turned pro u never see him do any kickflip variation & nothing switch or nollie. The few flip tricks u see him do are basically limited to: heelflip, varial heel, front shuv, & occasion hard flip. His handrail skating is mostly back lip, back smith & front board. Truthfully if it wasn’t for the ninja style heelflip I don’t think he ever would’ve turned pro. Since he’s been pro is there can you name any memorable trick he’s done at any spot that’s not a heelflip? I can’t
@@EDCsteals A Midwest Video, god what a throwback. That was a such an important local vid at the time especially for me and my friends living in Lake County since the skate scene there was basically just our little circle and that's it. I agree I wish there was more Neen footage over the years but he got hurt at some point according to this entire nine club interview.
I love what Neen is doing for skating. I started lifting in 2011, and didn’t understand why others didn’t; makes you feel great, and like he said, if you’re in better shape, then you can do what you love for a longer period. Just got back into skating after a long hiatus, and wish I had more time to do it, but the lifting definitely allowed me to start again without much of a problem. But skating is definitely a therapy of its own.
As a personal trainer who originally came from skateboarding, Neen really knows his stuff. More skaters should utilize health and lifting, when I got into lifting I was still skating pretty heavy and my skating improved tremendously. I just felt so comfortable on my board, and I progressed like crazy within a year or two.
The raddest it’s Neen my first flip trick was a heel flip so I can relate and his episode is filled with relatable information about cooking health and wellness an infectious humble vibe cmon bro we all can learn a lot by watching the episode keeping your priorities straight away from drama and about you and your progress so buttery all day!!!
a good onion burger is were not only are the onions smothered on the patty, its also inside the patty. its like the best thing you can eat if you ever find yourself in oklahoma. im an okie myself and i had no idea they were a big deal cuz they were always around for me lol
Twenty something years ago, when I was doing hours of yoga, could do thirty pull-ups, and was benching 300 and squatting 400, I was getting mostly negative feedback from all of my friends. Today, I'm over 40 and still skate 4-6 days a week. Still got all my pop after several injuries thanks to my ignorance of those voices whom I love but chose to ignore. Only one of my peers in that group still flipping a board at all. Be careful who you let influence you kids...
This was fucking rad to read & to know sk8tn actually is what keeps you youthful I feel like when you give in mentally & physically & stop sk8tn is when your mind set gets compromised, but when you study make effort to skate at least a couple times a week or over the weekend or just in your driveway fucking around that’s when you really tap to this other thing that is skating that is the thing that keeps the body and mine useful. It was something you truly love to do if that makes any sense at all.
Neen is big inspo. Glad to see how far he’s gotten. Funny about that wig haha I like stuff like that. Now he’s a big wig in the industry. Hope to be successful with my projects. He commented on 1 of my vids 4 yrs ago on my channel being supportive. Like to hook him up with a roller sometime. Random I got a podcast hack. I carry around 2 iPads in my house. 1 I put chill hop or instrumental mixes and the other I put a podcast on. So nice to fill that space with chill background music. Carry that stack with me. Watch like 3-4 a day and it’s way more enjoyable. Try it!
Neen is the shit! Shares info in a way that makes sense to me. Love his skating obviously, but also have a few of his food recipes that I make regularly. (Sesame seed seared tuna steaks!) 🙏🙏🙏
When i tried to come back to skating again 2 years ago, i bought a neen twin nose board. Unfortunately due to my knee injury i really was unable to fully use it, so i gave it to a friend, but dang that was a good board. Neen is such a good rider too
Neen is just a super raw ass gnarly sk8tr & the whole Deathwish crew even moose all these dudes are super raw super kind as well you gotta respect the journey ❤
@thenineclub Kelly, great memory reminding about the similar grounds in Brazil compared to Portugal. Just a curiosity, they are similar as for the influence of Portugal in Brazil, as Brazil was a colony of Portugal from 1500 until 1822. We have 2 different kinds of rough grounds: (1) in the sidewalks, there are the "pedras portuguesas" ("Portuguese pavement"), (2) in the streets, some are covered by "paralelepípedos" ("cobblestone"). You can Google both to check how rough to skate they are. Maybe that's why there are so many good skaters in Brazil, they need to overcome a lot, in order to practice.
Recently getting into fitness i really dig the neen episodes! So weird how when you're younger, you skate all the time, and you don't realize how much skating does for and to your body😅 #skateeverydamnonceinawhile
Skateboarding is one of the most physical costing sports ever. The amount of times you fall, amount of lung capacity for lines, tolerance for impact, muscle strength and coordination, etc. it’s completely necessary to drink water, stretch daily and lift weights. A lot of injuries can be prevented with minimal exercise. Neen is showing us how exercise brings longevity in skateboarding 💯
Love hearing Neen speak. A guy with such a positive attitude. Also inspired me on my Sober Journey (like Reynolds, BA and Spanky) Thanks Neen!
