What if you want to connect your cloud key to a switch instead of a router. Do these steps work? 1. Bridge isp modem/router 2. Configure edge router using laptop, give it a different subnet than my current isp modem/router and set it to serve dhcp. Then plug isp modem into edgerouter to get internet 3. Plug in switch to router 4. Plug in cloud key to switch 5. Run discovery of cloud key (and it should pick up the cloud key on the same subnet as my router and switch are in 6. From there I can log in to controller and configure switch and set a static ip for the cloud key using an ip from the range I configured on router 7. Plug in uap lite to switch and get it adopted now too Thanks for all your great videos btw!
I am getting a Cloud Key later today and getting ready to set it up and wanted to know if you have another video on setting up the Cloud Access, so you can access the cloud key from Home or another office, etc... Have you made that video on Cloud Access?
Very easy to follow and understand. I enjoy the picture in picture and clear narration. I have subscribed to you and hope to see more great videos soon.
I can't find the USG video (Part 2 to this one). Can you add the URL in the description? I am confused because the USG out of the box will be on a different subnet than the newly configured cloud key.
Did you use a hardware unifi switch? Something like the 8 port 150w Poe switch or just a normal non ubiquiti switch? Does the controller need any hardware apart from the ap and the cloud key?
Thanks for this very helpful video. For us simpletons with minimal home setups (edgerouter x & AP-AC lite) why would I use the cloud key instead of the unifi pc app?
Great Videos on Unifi THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THEM!!! we are moving controller from window based server ( static ip) to cloud key soon and of course cant change windows server ip, even if we do a unfi backup from it and restore to new cloud key we assume the unifi devices will still look for old IP? how can we migrate this ? Thx Dave
My cloud key won’t see any of the AP’s even though they are on the same network. I had to set them up using the mobile app so not able to manage via the cloud key. Is there a way to force them to connect to the cloud key?
Hi Willie I like all your videos, they are excellent. One question....Is it compulsory to use the UBNT cloud? Can I configure this device completely local? Thanks.
Thanks for all your videos Willie, they've really helped me out. I have a question regarding the initial placement of a Cloud Key on a new network. I have a completely clean network to set up and the Unifi hardware will be perfect for this. It's a new office with no network hardware in it at this time. In your example you plug the Cloud Key into an existing PoE switch and network. How do I start with the Cloud Key if there's no existing network to start with?
Willie, would you route 8443 traffic through the USG to the cloud key to control the domain name and allow for direct access to the controller software without relying on the unifi cloud being up? Curious on your thoughts opening the web portal to the public internet...
Ya I'm not seeming to get that menu mine is way differnt. How do you set it up if you already got one set up with your computer? It doesnt see my cloud key. And i dont have Crome
Thanks, assume I know nothing (which is true). Why do you keep infrastructure devices static and under 100? How is that helpful? Is it necessary? I've got a basic unifi setup going. As I scale it, should i do this sort of thing? What are the benefits? Thank you very much for replying.
Would the wifi configuration setup change much if I'm already using a Unifi wireless network without the cloud key? I'm going to add the cloudkey so any input would be appreciated.
Could you make a video on a UniFi controller hosted on a Raspberry Pi 3? There are some videos already, but you explain things way simpler than others. Thanks!
Hey great videos. I know you said you don't like stuff in the cloud. But if your controller is on prem and all power / internet goes down will you get alerts? Currently I host on AWS Since it's cheap and reliable. Also have multiple sites so not sure if I would be able to do with cloud key. Think a cloud key would have to be at each site.
It's the basic instance ec2. Which was the free tier. It depends on what you have on it. Using for clients and stuff. I have 2 sites 1 site is just two AP's other site is a little more but no lag or issues. Even if you upgrade to next one up it's maybe $5 more. Yes if have multiple sites many AP's switches and stuff yes can get up there.
I am looking in the Chrome plugin store and not seeing the Ubiquiti Device Discovery plugin anymore. I am assuming that it was discontinued... If anyone has a link otherwise that would be great!
Sir do i need to open my PC controller just to access my Unifi anywhere? is the cloud key device is enough? Because I don't want my PC to be open 24 hours.
The cloud key can be set up to allow access to your network anywhere. Once you have a cloud key setup you should be able to decom your comp from its old role.
Hi Willie, what if I dont have any PoE ports/adapter available, will it power on using a micro usb power adapter? I notice that it has a micro usb port.
Hey Willie, Do you know what Unifi Elite is? I see it now on the top of the unifi.ubnt controller site.... Wondering if they plan on starting to charge for remote access to Cloud Key??
Migration question. I'm running a controller on a Windows PC currently. Can the backup from that installation be imported into the cloud key? If not, is there a way to avoid reconfiguring switches/access points?
I'm going to be switching from AWS to Cloud Keys at each site I have (had some issues with AWS, currently I can't even log in, after update...I'm pretty screwed). Can I download the file and import into the Cloud Key versus having to reset ap's and start from scratch at each site?
hi sir, how to move my controller that host locally on my laptop which is already adopted 48 Unifi AP to cloud key controller? so i dont have to let my laptop always on for 24h. thank you
Hello Willie, Don't know how to pm you... but not sure if you can help me with this... I had a Unifi Cloud Key, but out of the sudden, my password doesn't work, but I know what password I used. is there a way to recover that password?? I used recover password and input my email, and didn't work. hope you know the answer.
would love to see cloud access...planning to setup on a site without the need for a desktop server or the like....I wanna manage it through cloud.....my first option is through rasp pi3....till I saw this....

Information relating to Cloud Access would be great Willie. Perhaps pro's vs con's relating to using Ubiquity service over in house/DNAT.
Great explanation! Thank you!
I can't find the USG video (Part 2 to this one). Can you add the URL in the description? I am confused because the USG out of the box will be on a different subnet than the newly configured cloud key.
Been fighting with a cloud key for some time. Vers 5.5.24. Cold not get it to accept a static ip. Any trics ?
Did not have time to watch till the end, so what if I have already set up unifi AP LR for ex, and want to connect cloud key?
Did you use a hardware unifi switch? Something like the 8 port 150w Poe switch or just a normal non ubiquiti switch? Does the controller need any hardware apart from the ap and the cloud key?
Longest password ever!!! Great video.
Thanks for this very helpful video. For us simpletons with minimal home setups (edgerouter x & AP-AC lite) why would I use the cloud key instead of the unifi pc app?
Great starter video for IMO a getting started with Unifi series. Looking forward to the full box set.
Nooooo none at all :).

Thank you for the quick reply. Do you also have a video on WAP device positioning/layout in a large home? Thanks
Hello,
Why we use cloud key ,if we locally control can tell advantages of cloud key
Just saw the videos about CloudKey. Thanks so much for the great education. My question is: Will this manage the Unifi Video Cameras as well?
Hey Willie, any chance you could help me with setting this up? I was on tech support with them for 2 hours and they cannot help me.

can you manage a camera with this or do I need cloudkey 2?
Is it possible to restore the cloud key from a backup of a unifi controller VM?

Helpful video, thanks. Why did you fix the cloudkey port to .5?

I'm in the same situation. How'd it work out for you?

Willie Howe Thanks! I love your videos, they are the reason I jumped to Ubiquiti APs
You can do it Willie :).

Also do you have any of the new UniFi 8 port switches on order coming in? Doing review? I have 2 of the lower end models coming in early next week.
***** I got mine for my distributor so I think they are GA now. Still not updated on ubnt but stores will have them prob in the next week or two.
Hi, can i use a cloud key even without a wifi router? I mean, from the ISP to switch, then can i managed my internet? Thanks =)

What are the advantages and drawbacks of the Cloud Access? Is this something that will pass Hippa requirements?
Thanks Willie.........By the way you are very proficient in your presentations. I am looking forward to viewing and learning more in the coming year.

Nice video, it helped me a lot.

Why they sell this "Cloud Key" as separate device? Why not incorporate into the gateway?

Hello,
Why we use cloud key ,if we locally control can tell advantages of cloud key
Do all my AP's need to be on the same modem? I have a large property and we use many modems on site
Thank you!
