Not really, Adam savage did a full vid on this type of tool and it would take serious effort to get cut by one. It's basically moving back and forwards by a tiny amount, letting it cut hard materials like a cast or fiberglass while soft things like skin ot fabric will take no damage unless the blade is very forcefully pushed in.
It just vibrates. It doesn't spin like a normal saw. I use these at work all the time and it really doesn't damage fleshy areas unless you reaaaallllly give it some effort.
For all the people who are worried that the saw will cut the person's arm, the saw blade move back and forth which makes it impossible for his hand to be injured. So the saw will be able to cut through the cast and not through the skin.
NOTE : This machine’s blade is not rotating…… It just oscillates… If accidentally this touch to the skin it doesn’t harm …… It cut hard structures only this is the principle here ……

@@crystalkerstal no this is also a cast saw they put the piece of plastic there for two reasons, one, it protects the skin JUST IN CASE, and two, it helps let the nurse know when they've cut all the way through the cast

I’ve personally had cast and been around individuals that have had cast and they have never needed to put anything underneath. Because they are designed specifically to remove cast without cutting through flesh. So unless you know it’s facts that this particular one is flesh safe, I’m not gonna take your word for it.
The blade would have to be serrated to cut through your skin and they are trained professionals but even with this knowledge I as a kid would still be scared

The steel ruler behind is also not really required. I too had to undergo after treating a wrist fracture. The technician assured it's safety by putting his hands on the vibrating blades!

This isn't done professionally because professionally uses the same type of tool but it moves side to side fast so that if it touches your skin it won't cut it because our skin is softer than the cast and gets pushed away when it hits
Done this method four years ago had accidentally cut off two my fingers when the tool slipped forward & knocked them right off what i didnt know is that when your fingers are cut off that the nerves in them causes the fingers to still move like a lizard tail that comes off still has movement in it.
