Wow! Engineer with 35+ years experience in heavy-duty machinery here. This goes against any common practices! Bearings are manufactured to mue-meter tolerances and assembled in clean-rooms. The races undergo a special stress-relief process to keep them from cracking. That type of ‘repaired’ bearing could only work in a low load, slow speed and non-critical application. Would be interesting to see what type of equipment this one went into.
They probably don't have the word "precision machinery" in their dictionary. And they and they have only 3 kinds of mechanical materials: iron rods, iron blocks, welding rods.
In Pakistan, lathes are ironworking equipment.Having a lathe makes them feel more professional. For Pakistani ironworkers, iron is iron, they have no concept of mechanical engineering. Because of this, there are very few real professionals in that country who can expose those fake major.
It is not surprising that the death rate in this country is so high, since even a bearing that qualifies for replacement and probably corresponds to the operation of some large mechanism, can be cut with a grinder, welded with an electrode and rolled, convincing yourself and viewers that the job is professionally made and the bearing is like new.
Retired welder (12 years on buildings, bridges and pipe(uphill)) and 8 years welding inspection, nuclear power plants, I am appalled. Whatever this bearing went into, I wouldn’t bet on it lasting till coffee break.

The safety squints while grinding are great too, who needs safety glasses or even eyesight for that matter. If that spins over 10 rpm for an hour you'd be lucky
Clearly this is all a joke, a parody? No one can seriously believe that a bearing, a highly precise piece of engineering, can be repaired with a lathe, grinder and welder? What a great joke.
Possibly was made to get cheap content for the channel. What troubles me is the lack of safety gear for a bloody youtube clickbait video. My welding instructor always hammered home the need to place the ground clamp on the actual piece of work to be welded. This way the current does not pass through the bearings on a machine, especially a lathe.
Don't worry, saw the label, most probably made in Pakistan too. If it broke, they just weld it back. If the motor fail, they'll just rebuild it. If they need parts, they'll just cast or forge it. These guys are great in self reliance.
The cost of a new bearing is going to be less than what it would cost to replace this repair. When it fails ( which it will ) you'll end up having pull this and put in a new bearing anyways. I know it must be difficult to get replacement parts in this part of the world but sometimes its not worth the hassle.
This is Pakistan. Not as easy as most country's. It leaves me shaking my head too. But I guess they work with what they have. And labor must be dirt cheap is all I can figure. I can not imagine this bearing lasting that long,
A similar size bearing to that made by SKF and sold hear in the UK is around about £700+ VAT. I bout a load of stuff at a bankruptcy auction and there was abrand new bearing similar in size and I was amazed at the cost. I sold it to a firm and made a profit. No way could you buy a bearing that size cheap. These guys do their best because that is what they have to do. Here in the West, our rules demand new, our engineers demand new. I don't know how long the repair in the video will last but if lasts for a while before breaking then it has saved some money.
This video is fake guys, they're not actually using the bearing. They make it obvious at the start when the bearing stands out as clean in the pile with a clear cut mar through it.
I think the idea on this one is to fix it and sell it on to someone who doesn’t know any better. Hence more effort to polish the outside than to fix the actual race surface

I have seen a bearing split with a sharp edge like that but all around the middle of the outer race. Can I suggest that the way it has failed might be indicative of the way it was produced.
I’m not sure why you would ever grind all the way around a bearing shell. Except to make it look prettier. And cover up the welding marks. Awfully dubious.
Those rollers and rolling surfaces must be shiny like chrome, on this bearing they are matt, bearing is worn out, usless. And hairdoo guy is going to guess internal geometry, eyeball it? Only way to weld hardened steele in bearing quality is to put it in furnace, heat it up to white heat and let it cool down slowly. We are calling this releasing.
That would be, the trash
Not my Chinese skateboard bearings. lol
They did dismantle it on the clean room sack and not on the dirty floor!
'Clean rooms'?
Didn't you see him shake the hessian bag before putting the bearing on it?
it may work for 10 minutes 🤣🤣🤣
I think so too.😂
Maybe it's for low rpm use, so it would be ok.
No.Its outer diameter has been reduced and cannot be assembled unless he uses welding.
@@kyvih9217 why doing such a dumb thing?
I'm from France, I don't get it.
Whatever this bearing went into, I wouldn’t bet on it lasting till coffee break.
lovely bit of wall art - it's certainly no a bearing anymore

It's probably a slow rotation bearing

There are some things that you shouldn't do and this is one of them. I've seen birds crap out better beads than those not to mention its on a bearing FFS.

They welded without gloves or skin protection, angle grinded without eye protection or blade guards and spun suspect welded lumps of steel in a lathe with no safety shields what-so-ever. People could have gotten maimed or killed for a few views.
@@wombatillo You are correct. Some RUclips channels in South East Asia have similar content although it is more about restorations of equipment. Someone made a documentary about it, and it was explained that no matter if people like the video or call out the bull shit which it is, the channel owner still earn money because of click bait.
And yes, those sandals and invisible safety glasses are great. Plus the clean sand all over the floor….

What kind of damage is going to happen when put in service from the lack of precession. Did everybody see the amount of internal looseness the bearing had when he lifted it by the inner race

That is a pretty new and clean looking lathe he is working on. Would like to see it in a year
i was thinking the same thing
Don't worry. They will weld fill slides and repair it with an angle grinder. For jobs like this it will do, will be 'precise' enough.
My welding instructor always hammered home the need to place the ground clamp on the actual piece of work to be welded. This way the current does not pass through the bearings on a machine, especially a lathe.
I think, rather in two weeks...
Don't worry, saw the label, most probably made in Pakistan too.
If it broke, they just weld it back. If the motor fail, they'll just rebuild it. If they need parts, they'll just cast or forge it.
These guys are great in self reliance.
It's filmed in Bradford, UK ?
I tried to put 1000 likes but it would only allow 1
They have Jamie Oliver's filming team.
I can not imagine this bearing lasting that long,
It will probably serve in a small slow running merry-go-round for children. 😁
A job like that in Pakistan costs less then 50 bucks, so if it will work also for a few months it will be a good deal for them anyway
I read that there pay rate is 135.00 a month.
Thanks for the tutorial, it's much faster than any other method I came across.
I think the idea on this one is to fix it and sell it on to someone who doesn’t know any better. Hence more effort to polish the outside than to fix the actual race surface

Amazing weld repair here. I noticed the guy was using the sander on the inside of the circle that the bearing rollers will roll on and these are normally measured to an accuracy of less than one tenth of a mm ……will that not make the bearings have too much play ?
Perhaps it will not matter so much if it is for a large slow wheel rotating machine.
Once again the guy on the Lathe did not wear Eye protection …..!
Thanks for sharing.

Don't mind, they intentionally cut it up with an angle grinder to make a content on how they fix it. It was not supposed to be used further from the beginning.
So they basically risked the lives, skins and eye-sight of their workers for a few cheap views on youtube? That is bloody amoral but I guess that's how they roll in Pakistan.
Well the bearing sounds very high precision. Just like me in the morning when I am looking for a spoon in the kitchen in the morning among all the cutlery to stur my coffee.
Welding hardened steel just creates a place for it to crack right next to the weld, and it's not a matter of if!
The lathe looked clean and relatively new compared to the sort of equipment we usually see in these videos. Shame you just destroyed the bearings in the head stock by welding through them.
i think they made it just for youtube cant imagine that somebody is serious even spending one minute to fix a bearing this way....???
You know I love about these restorations is they only need to look good. I would love to see this bearing installed into a high load application and see it shit it's self within 30 seconds

I’m not sure why you would ever grind all the way around a bearing shell. Except to make it look prettier. And cover up the welding marks. Awfully dubious.

Only way to weld hardened steele in bearing quality is to put it in furnace, heat it up to white heat and let it cool down slowly. We are calling this releasing. Then preparing gap and welding it with proper tehnique, preheat, ect...
Now machining and finaly heat treatment.
