  • A pacemaker is a small, battery--powered device made up of two parts, a pulse generator and the leads. This 3D medical animation provides an anatomical overview of the heart and demonstrates the steps involved in placing a pacemaker. The pulse generator of the pacemaker gives off impulses that cause the atria and/or ventricles to contract. It is positioned under the skin, below the collarbone on either side of the chest. The leads carry signals between the pulse generator and the heart in both directions. The surgeon will make a small incision beneath your collarbone. The pacemaker's leads will be inserted into the subclavian vein and then threaded toward the right side of your heart. Your surgeon will view x--ray images on a video screen to position the leads correctly.

    Hey there, I have a question (If you don't mind). Okay, I'm 17, and have Hyperadrenergic Orthostatic Postural Tachycardia Syndrome. When I stand or sit up my heart rate goes up to around 170-180 bpm and my blood pressure drops to dangerously low levels, I'm constantly passing out upon standing, and my doctor says that he thinks a pacemaker is necessary. So my question is..Will my heart become dependent on the pacemaker if I do get it, and is there any chance of the pm to stop working?

      @thedoopa3169 3 месяца назад

      @@TaT2dDragoness_Leslie yeah that used to happen all the time to me. But since I got the pacemaker I haven't passed out once. Sometimes I feel it doing its job, but most of the time I don't feel a thing. The scar tends to get really itchy, but that's my only complaint. I can finally sleep an appropriate amount instead of 14+ hours a day, I'm back to being able to work my 11 hour work days, I have my color back and am no longer pale, no more feeling of being a fish out of water, no more random moments where I get flush and start sweating, since thanks giving I only had one moment where i felt previous symptoms coming on and the pacer quickly fixed it.
      Cool perks are no more metal detectors and I get to cut ahead in line at concerts 😀. But word of caution. self checkout and the anti theft devices at the entrance of shops make it go wonky. Pacers are equipped with paramedic mode and it sets the heart to 80 bpm when a magnet touches it even if you don't need it

    I went in for a mitral valve repair and a Maze procedure to correct tachycardia, but the Maze procedure didnt work and I woke up in recovery with the nurse telling me I had to go back in for surgery in the morning for a pacemaker.
    I figured they put the leads on the surface of the heart or something like that, I didn't know they actually run those wires thru a vein into the heart where it tends to impinge on the valves closing perfectly.
    I thought also that they buried the pacemaker deeper, it's like just under the skin like a large lump and it's right exactly where your seat belt goes which is a really bad place to put it. If you drive I would try and see if it can be put on the right side not the left, because if you ever get into a collision and that seat belt comes at you hard, the first thing it's going to hit is the pacemaker, even with padding it won't be good having that seat belt slam that area!

      A pacemaker is an implantable device which is positioned typically underneath your left collarbone. It consists of a battery with a computer circuit connected to one or more pacing electrodes (electrical wires) which attach to your heart.
      The battery of the pacemaker is able to generate an electrical impulse which is transmitted to your heart, which leads to a heart contraction, leading to a pulse or heartbeat.
