- A pacemaker is a small, battery--powered device made up of two parts, a pulse generator and the leads. This 3D medical animation provides an anatomical overview of the heart and demonstrates the steps involved in placing a pacemaker. The pulse generator of the pacemaker gives off impulses that cause the atria and/or ventricles to contract. It is positioned under the skin, below the collarbone on either side of the chest. The leads carry signals between the pulse generator and the heart in both directions. The surgeon will make a small incision beneath your collarbone. The pacemaker's leads will be inserted into the subclavian vein and then threaded toward the right side of your heart. Your surgeon will view x--ray images on a video screen to position the leads correctly.

Pov you fell asleep first at a sleepover
Hey there, I have a question (If you don't mind). Okay, I'm 17, and have Hyperadrenergic Orthostatic Postural Tachycardia Syndrome. When I stand or sit up my heart rate goes up to around 170-180 bpm and my blood pressure drops to dangerously low levels, I'm constantly passing out upon standing, and my doctor says that he thinks a pacemaker is necessary. So my question is..Will my heart become dependent on the pacemaker if I do get it, and is there any chance of the pm to stop working?
Kaylee Macdonald No pacemaker will never stop working as long as The baterie arę changed and The device is working. If i was u gest a pacemaker it will save your Life. Remember we arę just machines. The pacemaker will be programed so your Heart will best between 60-90 per min
I have resting rate 35-45 bpm, when i walk or run its all normal.
What about now are you okay?

when you fall asleep at the sleepover first:
I am 35. Just got my pacemaker. It's simple. Was done in an hour and they put me under. There is some pretty bad pain after but It only lasts a few days and they give you some good meds. I keep hearing local anesthesia used but they knocked me out cold. No need to be worried.
How are you feeling now do you feel it when it corrects your heart. Does it make you feel different. I'm about to get mine done. Apparently I flatlined for a few seconds the other month when we checked my loop recorder
@@TaT2dDragoness_Leslie yeah that used to happen all the time to me. But since I got the pacemaker I haven't passed out once. Sometimes I feel it doing its job, but most of the time I don't feel a thing. The scar tends to get really itchy, but that's my only complaint. I can finally sleep an appropriate amount instead of 14+ hours a day, I'm back to being able to work my 11 hour work days, I have my color back and am no longer pale, no more feeling of being a fish out of water, no more random moments where I get flush and start sweating, since thanks giving I only had one moment where i felt previous symptoms coming on and the pacer quickly fixed it.
Cool perks are no more metal detectors and I get to cut ahead in line at concerts 😀. But word of caution. self checkout and the anti theft devices at the entrance of shops make it go wonky. Pacers are equipped with paramedic mode and it sets the heart to 80 bpm when a magnet touches it even if you don't need it
When you slept first at a sleepover (Huge Mistake)
I went in for a mitral valve repair and a Maze procedure to correct tachycardia, but the Maze procedure didnt work and I woke up in recovery with the nurse telling me I had to go back in for surgery in the morning for a pacemaker.
I figured they put the leads on the surface of the heart or something like that, I didn't know they actually run those wires thru a vein into the heart where it tends to impinge on the valves closing perfectly.
I thought also that they buried the pacemaker deeper, it's like just under the skin like a large lump and it's right exactly where your seat belt goes which is a really bad place to put it. If you drive I would try and see if it can be put on the right side not the left, because if you ever get into a collision and that seat belt comes at you hard, the first thing it's going to hit is the pacemaker, even with padding it won't be good having that seat belt slam that area!

Any one can answer why the person who has pace maker for 4months has a specific day of having weak feeling and some partial pain on the chest.?.. we've been driving her to the emergency hospital for several times when ever she feels this symptoms... But EKG and doctors has read nothing but a normal heart... it would be so appreciated if any one here can give me clues...
Well psychosomatic or it’s just a part of getting use to it.

UNDER THE DOME !!
My grand mother died 31 hours after the pacemaker insertion. Same happened to the patient beside our room in icu. She died 48hrs after the pacemaker insertion. is pacemaker really safe? Or maybe just a medical malpractice of the the Dr. Who did the procedure.
You might want to inquire into the cause of death, it may not have been the surgery, but something else. Pacemakers seem minimally invasive, so i dont think that the dr. Could fuck it up badly enough to lead to death.
No, here in India doctors have very high success rate and it is very safe!
The doctor probably fucked up the surgery
My father in-law had one put in he is doing great 👍 I don’t think that was the case
Doctor just told me my heart rate has dropped to zero and that only the pacemaker is keeping me alive.
Do you have any reading material for people in my condition?

COMMENTS!!! WHAT IS PACEMAKER?
A pacemaker is an implantable device which is positioned typically underneath your left collarbone. It consists of a battery with a computer circuit connected to one or more pacing electrodes (electrical wires) which attach to your heart.
The battery of the pacemaker is able to generate an electrical impulse which is transmitted to your heart, which leads to a heart contraction, leading to a pulse or heartbeat.
