    Well with Julian now safely back in New Zealand, I am left to finish the table build for the new layout at Sandling Junction
    So how did I get on with the upper levels, and moreover that very long incline?
    Join me as we find out.

    Great progress on your boards, Paul. It’s not easy doing this on your own. I’m very impressed that you managed to get a couple on locomotives running around to test it out. Thanks for sharing. Roy.

    To avoid any track alignment problem you should use the Railtech track alignment joiners for module joints. It is conceived to ensure perfect alignment and a sturdy modular track joint. There are videos on RUclips about this tool.

      Hot tip, with the Model tech alignment plates, remove the sleepers, and solder the plates - secure the track before cutting the rails. Flexitrack will bite back if you try cutting it first!!! On any curve..

    Looking good considering the shape of the room I think you have created a very nice layout with a large amount of features and a good run of track. Looking forward to seeing how you build each section. Great to see your enthusiasm back for this hobby of ours.

    Hi Paul. Good for you, Julian was (and is always) right! The old adage: measure twice, cut once! Is your garage damp-proof?

    • @Sandlingjunction
      @Sandlingjunction  8 месяцев назад

      The layout is in the bedroom, and the garage is also damp protected as best as one can, as it is my painting studio, cheers P

    Paul, have a little look at some Feng Shui guidance online or in a book to help that awkward space and yourself. You might like to employ some strategically placed mirrors to improve things. I know this advice is a bit leftfield but it is offered with a good heart. When I first saw that room it was the first thing I thought of. Very Best Wishes, Nige (The layouts looking great btw).

      I appreciate the thought Nigel, sadly the walls are difficult and was hard enough with those cabinets up, but will keep it in mind, cheers P

    Dear Paul, for your board with the turntable; to permanently fix its risers steady, sturdy and plumb it may be helpful to form some triangular supports or braces, from the lower base board almost to the top of the risers. I humbly think that will do a better job for the strength of this board’s foundation than the extra cut and horizontal bracing you mentioned. Cheerio

      Hi Vince yes it is a good idea, I have many upstands in place, but if movement is detected I will look at your suggestion, cheers P

    Coming along nicely. I like the shelves but isn't the track supposed to be on the bottom of the shelf, not the top? ;)
    If you are short of space you could make the shelves deeper to store the locos two deep since access is simplified by the trays you have your locos stored on.

    • @Sandlingjunction
      @Sandlingjunction  8 месяцев назад

      I was just seeing if you were paying attention, lol I didn't like the track so turned shelves the other way easier and safer for locos on display
