  • OUR ATTIC ROOM: THE BEFORE & OUR PLANS// Today Joerg and I share a room in the house we haven't shared before - our attic room which will be an office and a room for relaxation as well. We love this space and are currently planning which colour palette from Little Greene we love best. The blue carpet will be changed very soon and will already have a huge impact. Have a lovely weekend. Much love, Kirsten & Joerg x

My vote is for the yellow. I once had an apartment painted in a kind of yellow-straw color. I just loved it. It was always "sunny" and very happy. Since you have so many angles in that room, you will get different "shades." Grays can grow on you and turn boring and sad.

    • @KirstenJoerg
      @KirstenJoerg  3 года назад +4

Totally, we think so too. It's a lovely and happy colour. Well, the sample pots are ordered and then we will 'test-drive' it next week haha.

Our cottage was painted in 3 shades of grey, and dark brown when we purchased it, after two weeks of wondering why we were waking up in morning sad we realized it was the colors. Our main level is warm yellow, bedroom light yellow and basement crisp white. We're very happy with the choices, and our visitors love it as well. You'll be happy!

    • @nancycowan6109

@@reggieandherman4251 I’ve always liked painting walls and wallpapering and doing kooky things (crumpled tissue paper applied with wallpaper glue and dry brush painted. I loved it. Nightmare to ever remove and would not recommend. But it was beautiful in its day. We are shades of aqua, green-blue, blue gray norm with white cupboards and our 1926 oak trim which was duplicated in our addition. Wow, I dragged on there. Lastly, watching this lovely channel makes me calm and happy. So enough said. ❤️❤️

Because your attic is pitched I would paint the entire room the same color and use your furniture and decor to add the color. My home is a 1921 brick cottage with high ceilings and I had the ceiling painted the same color as the walls throughout the house and I love it. When the ceiling is white and the walls are colored it lowers the ceiling visually. Those paint colors are lovely! My color is a white that looks grey but was lightened. It’s Sherwin Williams (US) Crushed Ice.

Hi Kirsten and Joerg. About Joerg's desk. We have an old house with a narrow attic staircase and our solution was to buy an antique pedestal desk. The desk top unscrews from the left and right pedestals and we can easily get the three parts into the attic and then re-assemble it. Great tour of your attic!

The glass at the bottom of the steps is a safety feature but also blocks the winter wind. The at tick is very nice really. Built in cabinets are a great idea! I think it can look so nice and finishes off the house! The blue is a bit dark but it is pretty. The mid grey would be great if the blue were a bit lighter. We painted our bedroom a light grey on top and cherry red on the bottom with a medium grey as trim. It turned out lovely. I wish I could send you photos. I don't know how. You both have great taste so I'm sure whatever you do will turn out great.

Joerg is such a good and meticulous painter. The staircase and cupboard look amazing. I have attic rooms like your study/relaxing space. I found colour, if it’s a strong colour all over, is too much and closes the space in. So I used a very light tinted colour on the sloping areas with a stronger colour on the walls. It looks really nice.

I think it is a lovely idea about the Christmas tree. I was just saying to my daughter that we could put ours up early. we will be getting a real tree again so will need to see "how soon is too soon". Alot of people are looking for ways to lift their spirits so perhaps many more will embrace the idea of adding in some festive charm - sooner rather than later. I remember one time getting ALOT of tester pots before I actually found the right one. it was definitely worth it. I loved my final choice and it just felt so right. it was worth all the effort! I look forward to all your updates around the house. best wishes from Ireland.

What a great space! I know you both will pick a beautiful color combo. I liked that blue but I am a lover of color. I totally respect the “white with touches of color added” but oh my just not my taste at all. I adore rich color. I do understand about the space and lighting too. That next batch of sample pots may be the winner! Thanks for starting my weekend off on a peaceful and relaxing vibe! Much love to you both! ❤️❤️

The colour changes when the light fixture is on, and with the daylight. It turned out beautiful. Good job! The colour will continue into the living room and entry hall; it is an open plan living space. Take care and be safe all...

Jorge..you will be dreaming of painting those stairs after three coats. Great job. I would love to decorate your attic. Painting the cabinets a color will really add a touch of color. Remember that painting the walls a light color will make the room look bigger. I'm sure you will make the best choice. I love all the nooks and crannies of that room. It adds so much character. That little storage with the door on the floor is so sweet. Paint color for your walls is so hard! I've made mistakes! Good luck. Sample pots are the best.

I love when the pair of you are out and about, but I ALSO love Kirsten and Joerg at home LOL. I suppose as I am such a home body and like to be at home, it's nice to be 'at home' with some of my favourite vloggers :)
I also smiled when you were giving the plans for your attic room, as I have an antique cottage (300 years old) and the upstairs is in the eaves or attics like this and we DO have build in drawers and cabinets along the sides as you are planning. Not built by us, of course, made years ago, but they are such a boon in an attic space such as this.
I'm excited for you and us to watch the progress. I LOVE picking out paint colours (probably from being an artist) and my own little reno on our boathouse is now on hold until late Spring, so I'll happily watch others do theirs now :)
Thanks again for your vlog and looking forward to this room make over.

It’s so difficult choosing colours and a relief when you eventually find ones you love. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned before that I use lining paper on the wall to test the colours, I can then move the paper onto different walls to see how the light affects the colour. I can’t recall where I saw the tip originally but I find it useful. I thought the colours looked lovely in the pots but were so much darker on the walls, I still liked the blue and mid grey on the wall but think your new choices will be really nice. I’m looking forward to seeing your Christmas decorations and have seen some lovely things in Susie Watson Designs, another of your wonderful recommendations. Thanks as always.

That is.charming room to decorate with so much character. I think you’re going.in the right direction Kirsten with the warmer shades of the green/yellow. The paint samples were a bit dreary and for a room that doesn’t get as much sunlight I would be concerned. Anyway it will be fun to follow along and see how it ends up. You have have classic taste. Cheers 🥰

Thanks so much! Yes, it needs warmer shades that are light and happy. Can't wait for the samples to try. So agree, the other samples were so dreary, not really us. The rooms gets a lot of light, it looked darker on camera, there's a lot of light.

I love that attic room it would make a perfect art studio. Your home is everything I would imagine in an English country home. The paint does look quite dark. In the pot, it did not appear to be so dark. Thanks for the tour.

Thank you so much for sharing the attic. It is a nice space and I do believe that a yellow/green citrus color would be a color that would be comfortable and inspiring. Early Merry Christmas and as you say in the UK, Happy Christmas! I do agree that so many people want to embrace the holiday spirit early this year with its colors and warmth and coziness and goodwill feelings with and for one another to help us through these dark times. It does our hearts good and that's what we all so desperately need. I agree with you about getting the tree. I have mine up already and that is the absolute earliest I have ever done that in my life! It does lift the spirit, I have to say. As ever, I so enjoy you folks and continuously look forward to our next "visit". Stay safe!

Oh I love so much that you share with us your painting of the samples on the wall. Thx much! No there’s not much change. And I agree, with that room size being on the small side, the dark colors will make it look even smaller. The shade of the middle color is nice, just too dark. I agree, the yellow/green is lovely with the color on the door and frame. 💕😃

I love little hideaway rooms like your attic.. can see it as a little craft area perhaps with an office..loved the little hobbit door! When we lived it Arizona we jumped on the everything has to be dark, taupes and browns bandwagon! Like the AZ desert!! We came back to the East coast, New Jersey and realised how much we missed the lights and brights of the walls and furniture. we live with inlaws so are limited to what we can decorate and we brought back some AZ furniture which are very dark browns.. not our style anymore! Small spaces look bigger with lighter colours too..Your home is coming along beautifully and very inspirational.

My first thought on seeing the attic room was, what is the history of this wee room? Was it always a room? Did a maid sleep there? Do you know the past history about the house? I like the colours if going for a more vintage look there, but love the idea of yellow/green more. Great idea. Just be careful carrying your tea up those wee narrow stairs...a wee kettle area might be worth having? Going to look great n

Oh, I think the yellow shade would be so cheerful, especially with the sky lights...I think that would be a great choice - anxiously awaiting the color sampling!! I love your positive attitude too! (About hair trim, or being in lockdown, etc.). I too am thinking about putting up a Christmas tree early - somehow with everything going on in the world, our unsettling election process, and the darkness coming in early in the evening, that twinkling lights will be much welcomed. Have a great weekend.

After just finding one of your older videos showing your pink kitchen walls, I think you would absolutely love that attic room painted that same pink. My entire house (except bathrooms) is this same muted pink and I will always keep this color b/c it is so neutral, restful and beautiful no matter what time of day or weather. It also accepts any other accent color beautifully. Looking forward to what you choose! Love you two!!!

For the feature wall dilemma, my suggestion is to carry the color from the future cabinets up to the ceiling. A nice cream color like you discussed wouldn’t be too over bearing on the ceiling and look very striking against the wall color. You could also tie in a trim feature with the wall color onto the cabinets you choose. The narrow strip of “ceiling” at the top of the room could look quite nice with a piece of hardwood running the length. It will look like an exposed beam. 🥰🧐🤓

Hi Kirsten & Joerg. Recently I watched a program about home decorating and I was blown away with what I saw. The inside trim and I mean all decorative trim was a beautiful navy blue and the other colors were various shades of blue including the ceiling. The look was gorgeous. If they had included other colors it would have looked good but that gorgeous navy trim made all of the other colors pop. I really enjoyed this video. We have lived in our home for 30 years and it is time for a redo ! Again, thank you for such a delightful video. 🧙🏻‍♀️ Teresa
