When I was a kid in 1950s US, we had conically shaped bulbs which really put out a lot of colored light, and I would take our Christmas story books, which Mother only brought out during Advent and Christmas, and read them under the tree by the colored lights (our tree was always placed in a low sturdy table, so there was room for a child). Our living room always seemed enchanted with the Christmas tree lit. Later when I grew up my husband and I were married in that living room on the hottest August day EVER! That living room saw a family grow up in it -- my parents built the house so we were the first family to grow up in that wonderful house. I love your candle lights. Very traditional. Many of our Christmas ornaments are hand made by us.

My husband and I have lived together for 18 years, and we’ve collected quite a menagerie of ornaments. Last year, I bought a bunch of new ornaments in an attempt to have a more sophisticated tree, but it was awful. I tore them all down right away and sent them back. It gave me a greater appreciation for what we gathered over time, and the stories and memories that came with them. Moral of the story is: store displays aren’t full of the sentimentalities that make a Christmas tree special and personal. Thank you for sharing your lovely tree and some of the stories that helped build it.
Sweet. Personally I am a pink person, to each his own! I don’t throw out any of my ornaments unless broken beyond repair. I do thrift store shop. Sometimes I get some really nice finds. I am always grateful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the entertaining yet peaceful vlog. Our country here in the USA is in such turmoil , and people are on edge ,that I needed this soothing video sharing your Christmas traditions.

Your tree is like something out of a fantasy. Love the wicker basked tree ring. Your voices are so calming. Something we Americans need desperately right now. Thank you.
Each ornament means so much more when it brings us back to another time and place. My grandfather was always going to Florida during the winter, and he would send us things for Christmas from there. One year we received a stuffed alligator! It is about 10 inches high. From then on we have hid it in the tree, and have the grandkids try and find it. Special memories are made of things like this. Thanks for sharing.

Your ornaments can then become heirlooms, which I love. Your home looks beautiful and oh so festive! Thank you guys! Much love! X

Paul's wife here: Yes, we all needed an early Christmas. We set up our tree right after Thanksgiving...and the lights are so wonderful , warm, glittering, and cheerful.
All of my ornaments have been collected over the years or have been given to me by friends and family since I was a child. They all hold precious memories for me and decorating the tree is like visiting old friends. One of the benefits of an artificial tree is that the branches can hold the heavier ornaments, which is nice. It was so nice for you to share your memories and ornaments with us!
My father was adopted, and after a lot of research he's discovered German ancestry. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely ornament collection and resources. I going to buy him some German decorations for this Christmas. I think he'll like a smoker :-)
This is so sweet and I totally love your tree decorated. I have approximately 25% German ancestry. We have no ornaments from generations before us so all our memories are what carries us each year. Thank you for sharing the traditional German styles that you have memories of from your childhoods. I always made ribbons bowtied on my trees with some of those miniature ornaments. Now I'd love to find more of the vintage and reproduction of the antique decorations for what we have as a traditional very small tree coming up this fall and pre winter decorations. Thank you for the inspiration!.
Your tree looks beautiful! I really love the way that you value and care for each piece, even keeping them in their original boxes. A good lesson in quality over quantity.

In addition to the fact that your Christmas tree is gorgeous, I absolutely love that your decorations have meaning and reflect you and your memories. Thank you for showing us your treasures. This is indeed a strange year. Pondering happy memories of Christmases past and the true meaning of this season can bring us all much needed peace.
My mother was Swiss/German from Milwaukee so we had lovely germanic traditions at Christmas. Thanksgiving weekend we went out for the perfect live tree, had to be a double balsam. The tree had to be at least 10 ft tall, in a big weighted family stand, father also wired the tree to the ceiling and drilled holes and put in extra branches low to fill any holes. Lights went on first, we still used the big lights then. Ornaments artfully hung, biggest first, then fill in with the small ones. We had all the antique glass ornaments from her family - huge balls, clip on glass birds with tails. All of mothers favorite childhood ornaments as well as her fathers. Again the big antique foil star went on top. Then came the tinsel - again the antique lead kind, kept pressed in an old magazine and placed individually all the way in to the trunk. No tossing handfuls allowed. I admit that shimmering tree was magical and I spent hours lying under it looking up through the branches at all the sparkle and glitter. That tree stayed up til New Years Day, then we lovingly took everything carefully off and put away until the next year.
Your tree looks beautiful and the pudding looked scrumptious. Thank you for sharing your day with us. It truly does brighten it. I am really looking forward to your gift guides. Can’t wait! Blessings, Mary

What a joy to watch you decorate your tree and tell of the memories of your ornaments! Loved the tiny ornaments from your first Christmas. Our first Christmas was purely DIY, hubby was in the Navy and we had no money, we got a tree Christmas Eve Day when the sellers were giving them away free. They weren’t the prettiest trees by any means but we loved ours. We strung popcorn and cranberries and tied red bows on the branches. It was the most BEAUTIFUL tree we could have had! Over the last 45;years of marriage we’ve had many, many ornaments, our tree now isn’t real and I spend all my time trying to keep our kitties out of it! Have a wonderful, healthy week and looking forward to the next video. Sorry for babbling on 🥴
Very beautiful, love every thing you do i am a 71 yr old lady who live in the USA and truly love your videos much love for all you do , sincerely Annette Tanguay i am French
When we lived in Germany when I was a little girl, we always had a Christmas Glockenspiel. My sister and I enjoyed watching the little angels start to go around and then waited for the little bells to "ting". I managed to find a little one a few years ago in a local thrift shop. Funny how it has become one of my favorite Christmas things again. Thanks for sharing, it sure started the Christmas memories stirring. Take care.
Its always a pleasure to visit you both on here & share a piece of your lives together, I immediately feel the stresses of the day drain away! I absolutely love your zest for clean natural living & the joy of the honest simple things that bring the most happiness...the tree is really beautiful!
Thank you Kirsten & Joerg. Christmas is my favorite holiday and where I place all of my effort. Since this year has been stressful for everyone, we could all use an extra dose of jolly!🎄
So beautiful! I love this simple trees that have like a victorian look to them. Just reminds me of family and tradition not a commercialized celebration. ❤
Hello Kirsten and Joerg, Just wanted to say a big thank you from Vancouver British Columbia Canada, My mother Anne was from England, moved to Canada and I have cherished all English traditions as part of my life, sharing them with my two boys. You have shared the most calming, wonderful stories and lands of England and I am so thrilled to have found you on RUclips during Covid... I pour myself a lovely Cream Earl Grey on Saturday morn and watch away.. I live in Fort Langley BC with my son, on our own following a divorce, but very happy and at peace... you both are nature enthusiasts, sheep loving, tea and treat and fine linen passionates, just my kind of folk!! Bless you and Cheers!from Canada...
You’re right on working in your Christmas tree right now. It’s necessary to focus on something else out of these crazy times. That brings the peace and hope and joy - what you guys naturally bring me with your good outlook on life! I fell invited to your home and share this sweet moment!🥰
I absolutely adore this video. Your German treasures bring me back to my childhood. The smoker and the cute little wooden ornaments... were always part of our Christmas in Budapest. (I have some Austrian and German ancestry) 😊 Your tree is so so cute! Those paper angels also brought back memories! My grandma, may mom and I used to make little angels w wooden head, fabric body and foil wings. We sold many and I still have some that I hang on my tree every year!😍 Today, I hung my wreath on my front door and it felt weird, as nobody has any Christmas decor in our neighborhood out yet😆😂😁 Will wait a bit longer for the 🎄. This Christmas will be extra special w our first grandson👶. I, too got a fake tree a few years ago and absolutely love it! Easy and no mess, also, perfect every year😜😁👌🏻 Thanks for the lovely time watching your video!🤗
What a pretty tree..it’s just the right size. The lights give the tree an old fashioned look..which is perfect. I like the wicker tree skirt too! You’ll have to show an evening view of the tree with just the tree lights on. The ceramic musical box is so beautiful. I like how your kitchen still has the window..great place to display it The dessert looks so good too! Great video again! Take care 🇨🇦 🎄
Your tree is delightful just how I like to see a tree, not a theme but a tradition that holds memories. We have always had a real tree. Our tradition as a family has been to go gather the tree, eat breakfast together and like yourselves we then decorate the tree with ornaments that we have had for years. There are some that come from my childhood, over 50yrs old. We do not have a theme we just love all these old ornaments that hold memories for us all as a family. I loved hearing the memories behind your ornaments, The ceramic musical box and the smoker. I’ve never heard of a smoker. Lovely video. Oh and I agree birds on a tree we have them too.
Something about your video made me shed a tear here and there thinking about past Christmas's and the times spent with loved ones no longer with us-- and finding in joy in what we've collected over the years...thanks for sharing your beautiful tree with us!
My mother-in-law was German (she grew up in Sudetenland, but moved to Weisbaden after WWII), and she had lovely stories about German Christmas traditions in her family. She carried many of them to the United States, and I loved them all. It is so nice to see you enjoying your memories, gifts and traditions of your homeland. Thanks for sharing!
my tree has been up for a couple days bringing the joy of christmas into the covid lockdown. not as beautiful as yours though. thank you both for all you have given us throughout 2020 xx
What a beautiful and full tree. I love all the ornaments you have collected. And your sister has such great taste in gifts. That tree looks real.the polka dots ornaments, just gorgeous. Amazing how all the ornaments a bows have their place. Nicely balanced. Love your dress. I can’t wait to try the pudding recipe.
I thought I had misread the title when I saw decorating the Christmas tree! However, I totally agree about putting it up now. This year has been horrible and we all need cheering up so I can understand about putting it up so soon. Your tree is beautiful and this is what a tree should look like using traditional style decorations. No tacky tinsel! I love the candle lights. They are gorgeous and look so good. It does not matter that the pudding was not quite as expected so long as it tasted fine. Such simple ingredients too.
I couldn’t agree with you more about the tree. Ive had ornaments bought years ago and the star on top was made by my son when he was 7 and that was 43 years ago. It’s a mixture of every thing and I love it. Yours looks beautiful as well.
I think we all need a sister like Kirsten’s sister!❤. What beautiful Christmas gifts! I agree- it is lovely to have decorations that have memories linked to them❤
Thank you for the decorating tree ideas. I love the angel hair around the lights. Ibmve been watching you and your videos and you have really become important to me to watch. I’ve also renamed my tv room, “our cozy”. I’m going to make it even cozier! Thanks to both of you-
So fun watching you put up your tree and all your precious and meaningful ornaments and decorations 🎄 I watched it during a snow storm with the candles all lit and Christmas music playing 🥰 such a wonderful time ❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️
Hurrah Christmas tree! I am right thee with you @Kirsten & Joerg as I've already decided I'm starting early. And as I'm allowing myself to also decorate my little Antique cottage as well as the Main house, I'm going to really do up the Christmas holiday this year! Its' SO true that we REALLY need a LONG Christmas THIS year :) I love those candle lights. I'm on the hunt for some like that. I used to have my grandmother's old silver clip on candle holders that hold real candles, my Mother remembered them from her own childhood and when I was young we'd do a small tree with these. Obviously we only lit them when we were IN the room and enjoyed it with music and Christmas treats and such. Somewhere along the way, they've been misplaced, but hopefully I'll find them again, but these are an amazing version. Hurrah for Christmas!
Yes, I think this year is just so different in every aspect. I know, actually nothing more beautiful than a tree with real candles, so special indeed. Hope you find the candle holders.
I love everything about your beautiful tree♡ The candle lights are gorgeous! When I grew up in the '50s my mom always used angel hair on our tree...it looks very nice and brings back sweet memories. We didn't have a lot of money for fancy decorations so my brother and I would string popcorn as our garland. You both work together so nicely it is a pleasure to watch you♡ Your husband is so cute...aww the kiss 💋
This was such a joy to watch! Your tree decorating style is almost exactly how I grew up decorating our family tree. I still have many of the old ornaments my mother gave me and decorate my tree the same way. We even have the tiny wooden ornaments which are my favorite! Thank you again for a delightful and relaxing video! 🎄
What a beautiful Christmas tree. I have promised to save decorating my tree until my 3 year old granddaughter can come over and help.. I have a wicker Christmas tree. Very different but I love it when it is all dressed in it's finery. Have a great week everybody. 😀
Such a beautiful, uncomplicated, stunning tree!! I love, love the bows, candles, angel hair & memorable ornament's, each and every one! Thank you for providing the links to purchase! I can't wait to see the birds. I agree, birds do belong on a Christmas tree. Enjoy the weeks leading up to the holidays, to two very special people!
What a beautiful little tree, and I am just the same when it comes to the ornaments. It's the memories invoked every time one is unwrapped from the storage box. I laughed when Kirsten when you said, 'Oh this doesn't work'...I have to move mine around also to get the right look and placement. Looking forward to more Christmas decorating and cooking!
It was delightful to watch you decorate your tree. I am very nostalgic about our decorations, as well. I have a fond memory of every ornament, too! The dessert looked delicious, too. I love to watch Joerg eat desserts because he always seems to savor them so much. 🎄
Hi both of you. Firstly, i would like to say, what a lovely couple you both are and secondly, your Christmas tree is gorgeously decorated. You both know the real meaning of Christmas by the way you have decorated your tree and all of your ornaments mean something special to you. Thank you for sharing this with everyone!
Your Christmas tree is beautiful! It looks also a bit like mine, I use also very much red and ornaments of the past and a wicker skirt. I am Dutch and I live in a small castle in the Netherlands, and I have three Christmas trees every year. In the living room a very big one, in the dining room a smaller one and in the kitchen a very small real one. The one in the living room is decorated with goden and old pink and deep aubergine colors, the one in the diningroom with lots of red and silver ornaments, a bit like yours, and the one in the kitchen is very Scandinavian with felt ornaments of little tomptes and elves. I love your beautiful cottage. I love old antique homes and I am so glad I live in a medieval castle now. With a very big garden.
@@KirstenJoerg I have a quick question. I love the bows that you tied and put on the tree. Can you tell me how long each piece of ribbon for the bow is? I would like to make some. Thanks so much.
How lovely to see all of your decorations and ornaments! I admit I have dozens and dozens of them, but only put out the ones I especially love each year. We bought a Balsam Hill tree last year and it's SO much easier than getting a fresh one, as well as better for the environment. And it's so nice to have it up as long as we like! I think we will put ours up next week. Thanks for the beauty and inspiration!
I loved the decoration of your Christmas tree !!! The idea of placing old ornaments that bring us great memories and remind us of good times, good company is very good! And the recipe, besides being easy, looked tasty. Congratulations to the couple, always happy to be able to watch your videos!
Such a pretty tree! Each tree becomes an expression of its owner, which adds to its unique beauty. The top of mine is decorated with decorations made by my children and grandchildren so many years ago ...such memories that brings each year.! Can hardly wait to get mine up, as I need the joy decorating brings into our lives! An early Merry Christmas, may yours be filled with joy and love 💕

Over the last 45;years of marriage we’ve had many, many ornaments, our tree now isn’t real and I spend all my time trying to keep our kitties out of it! Have a wonderful, healthy week and looking forward to the next video. Sorry for babbling on 🥴
Each Christmas Tree has its own style. But every one is beautiful and brings joy to our hearts!
Take care.
Such wonderful memories, I love this.
That is a thing in Finland too! It is called "Enkelikello" (Angel Bell). The heat from the tiny candles makes the angels move and play the bells.
That's so true!
@@KirstenJoerg Beautiful tree and ornaments btw!🎄
Alot of people are putting up the tree and why not we all need something happy to think about and feel blessed
Very beautiful Christmas tree, lovely and vintage, timeless look. 🎄💖
Thank you!
What a cheerful moment you have shared with us. Thank you!
I absolutely adore this video. Your German treasures bring me back to my childhood. The smoker and the cute little wooden ornaments... were always part of our Christmas in Budapest. (I have some Austrian and German ancestry) 😊
Your tree is so so cute! Those paper angels also brought back memories! My grandma, may mom and I used to make little angels w wooden head, fabric body and foil wings. We sold many and I still have some that I hang on my tree every year!😍
Today, I hung my wreath on my front door and it felt weird, as nobody has any Christmas decor in our neighborhood out yet😆😂😁
Will wait a bit longer for the 🎄. This Christmas will be extra special w our first grandson👶.
I, too got a fake tree a few years ago and absolutely love it! Easy and no mess, also, perfect every year😜😁👌🏻
Thanks for the lovely time watching your video!🤗
What a pretty tree..it’s just the right size.
The lights give the tree an old fashioned look..which is perfect. I like the wicker tree skirt too!
You’ll have to show an evening view of the tree with just the tree lights on.
The ceramic musical box is so beautiful. I like how your kitchen still has the window..great place to display it
The dessert looks so good too!
YOU HAVE CREATED AN ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS CHRISTMAS TREE!!! I LOVE YOUR DECOR AND COLORS!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
❤🎄❤🎄❤🎄❤🎄❤
🎄
Thank you so much!
Awww I'm sure yours is gorgeous as well. Stay safe Lesley!
Love the lights.
But are you leaving in kitchen?
What a beautiful and full tree. I love all the ornaments you have collected. And your sister has such great taste in gifts. That tree looks real.the polka dots ornaments, just gorgeous. Amazing how all the ornaments a bows have their place. Nicely balanced. Love your dress. I can’t wait to try the pudding recipe.
Beautiful tree... made more beautiful because everything on your tree is a memory!! I do the same!! ♥️💚♥️💚
Wonderful to hear!
I love your Christmas tree,it’s so charming, and the German Santa is perfection
Your tree is beautiful! I just love the candle lights and the hand made paper angels are just lovely!
Beautiful tree! Love all the special ornaments and memories. Perfection!
Thanks so much Lynne!
Thanks Kirsten & Joerg for this lovely video. Your tree beautiful.
Your tree is absolutely beautiful!!!
I couldn’t agree with you more about the tree. Ive had ornaments bought years ago and the star on top was made by my son when he was 7 and that was 43 years ago. It’s a mixture of every thing and I love it. Yours looks beautiful as well.
Thanks so much Angela! Oh how wonderful, the topper sounds so so special, could never be replaced.
I think we all need a sister like Kirsten’s sister!❤. What beautiful Christmas gifts! I agree- it is lovely to have decorations that have memories linked to them❤
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the decorating tree ideas. I love the angel hair around the lights. Ibmve been watching you and your videos and you have really become important to me to watch. I’ve also renamed my tv room, “our cozy”. I’m going to make it even cozier! Thanks to both of you-
So fun watching you put up your tree and all your precious and meaningful ornaments and decorations 🎄 I watched it during a snow storm with the candles all lit and Christmas music playing 🥰 such a wonderful time
❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️❄️
Hurrah Christmas tree! I am right thee with you @Kirsten & Joerg as I've already decided I'm starting early. And as I'm allowing myself to also decorate my little Antique cottage as well as the Main house, I'm going to really do up the Christmas holiday this year! Its' SO true that we REALLY need a LONG Christmas THIS year :)
I love those candle lights.
@@KirstenJoerg If not I'm looking for the light like you have, they are adorable.
We got our tree out yesterday and we are waiting for fairy lights to arrive before we can decorate. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks so much Diane!
You two always make my heart lighter & brighter! Thank you and bless you!
Thanks so much Katie.
What a beautiful Christmas tree.
I have promised to save decorating my tree until my 3 year old granddaughter can come over and help..
I have a wicker Christmas tree. Very different but I love it when it is all dressed in it's finery.
Have a great week everybody. 😀
It always makes me smile when you guys upload a new video😊❤️
That’s a very sweet tree with all your memories on it.🙏💕🎄🧑🎄
Such a beautiful, uncomplicated, stunning tree!!
This was so much fun! Tree looks so lovely , The ornaments from Germany, the wicker skirt and the smoking Santa , amazing
Your Christmas tree is truly delightful. Such a feel good feeling! I am absolutely going to decorate my tree early now. Thank you.
Thanks so much Diane!
I love your tree. You and Joerg have a beautiful style and it's great inspiration. I notice you take your time with everything. No wonder your videos are so fabulous. 💕
Lovely to see you decorating, while telling stories of how family memories are important for your Christmas 🎄
It very lovely to receive gifts that are made for you. I loved the Christmas decors given by your sister!😊
One year we went to see the trees inside Waddesdon Manor. You would have love the one themed to " while shepherds watched their flocks by night "
Beautiful tree!!! I hope to put mine up soon. I lost my mother in December 2017 and haven't put a tree the last couple of years. This year I need to. The pudding sounds delicious!!!!
Thanks so much! That makes sense, I think that's only understandable.
So lovely. I have never seen lights that look like tiny candles. We always had angel hair on our tree when I was a child. Your ornaments and stories were a welcome bit of fun and comfort. Thank you so much for inviting us to share with you❤️❤️
Your tree is so beautiful.....I visited the kathe wohlfahrt shop when I was in Nurnberg.... it was amazing ..loved it ....I'm trying to wait and put my tree up end of November but it's getting very hard to wait lol xx
How wonderful to hear! Nürnberg is beautiful, we love it there.
My mother and I visited the Kathe Wohlfahrt shop in Rothenburg - such a charming town! Along with Bamberg, Wertheim and Nurnberg. We love the German Christmas Markets. Love your serene, comforting videos! Frohliche Weihnachten!
You make me want to have a cup of tea and take my embroidery and enjoy the cosyness your videos embrace. I hope you never change and ever stay your own unique humble selves. 😘💕
So glad you decided to start your Christmas decorating early. This was such a joyful video!
We use real candles by my grandparents. My granddad lights it and we sing and before the giftopenings we blow out the candles together. I love these family tradition!
Very beautiful stylish and also very european this year I'm going to put bows on my tree you have just inspired me thank you and merry Christmas from Australia ♥️😊👏
Watching this three years later. So beautiful. My tree also has prescious ornaments and beautiful pieces collected over the years. I have been enjoying all your vlogs😊
I love your candle tree lights. I can’t resist buying Christmas decorations and really have too many now! Having said that I’m sure I will probably buy more this year! Thanks for sharing.
I was so excited to see your tree! I agree, a lot of people are ready for Christmas this year! Thank you for sharing this tradition with us. Loved seeing your decorations and the beautiful music box from your sister. Let me be the first to say "Merry Christmas" to you both. Greetings from Florida, USA
That's a beautiful Christmas tree! Thanks for sharing. ❤
Thanks so much!
The most charming couple, I adore you!
Thank you so much!
Love this tree! Looks so much like my daughter's. She adores the red and white and gold. Your ornaments are charming. I look for wooden German ornaments for one of my sons. He lives a great distance away and I can send them to him without breakage. TFS
It's a very beautiful Christmas tree and I love how you two decorated it together. Very sweet!
Your tree looks beautiful! I think I will put mine up this weekend and get into the Christmas spirit early this year too! 🥰
What a beautiful tree! I love your decorations, and the tree looks real. I love the tree skirt also. The dessert looks delicious! Mrs. Crogham always seems so formidable! I think she could deal with any situation! Thank you for another lovely vlog!💗
This was lovely to see! With all this craziness happening, I sure needed a break from it all, and this was perfect! Your tree turned out beautifully! Thank you both for sharing with us!
