1:55 I actually like the simple display, I have the s2000mkiii which has the upgraded display of Edifier, mine are always in optical mode and the OLED (?) display burned in, there can be seen a vague dark "optical" text through other text and volume indication, but it's only noticeable up close, this older edifier display won't have that.

@@Gragon I have not heard the a100 irl but I own(ed) the Edifier S2000mkii, S3000pro, r1280db, 350db, s880db. I tested them side by side. I would not recommend the S2000mkiii, it sounds very muffled/muddy and not clear regardless of presets and treble/bass settings it always sounds muddy, which is especially noticeable with vocals, hence I don't understand the 5 star reviews, I think the reviews are mainly from people who bought their first set of serious speakers and are impressed but they have no other serious speakers to compare. I actually sold the s2000mkiii (which I owned for 1,5 years) when I bought the s880db, the s880db sounds very clear, vocals sound natural and clear, and the presets and treble/bass setting actually can really customize the sound. The s880db could use more bass though and it doesn't have a subwoofer output. For the living room I now use the s880db with the edifier t5 subwoofer. But really thinking about the a100 because of the convenience of a sub output. Listening to youtube comparisons of the s880db vs the a100 it sounds very close. I think the a100 and a300pro are the most natural sounding of the airpulse series, I read comments of the a80 sounding muffled, the a300 might need an external dac (via balanced/XLR input) since it has loud high tones around 14-16kHz and it sounds less natural, the a200 seems nice too but read some people also say the high tones are too sharp and it has no sub output. Judging by the difference between the s2000mkiii and s880db and the s880db being similar sounding to the a100 I would definitely recommend the a100 over the s2000mkiii. I might buy a demo model of the a100 just to test.

@@Gragon I bought the A100 to compare with the s880db. The A100 has deeper bass and handles higher volume more easily, the s880db tends to make air noise from the back port at higher volumes (I read someone who put a bunch of straws in the port to reduce air noise, haven't tried myself). Regarding clarity they are actually quite similar! I let a friend listen and alternated between the 2 speakers, my friend could hardly tell them apart. The s880db sound can be tailored better due to the audio presets (classic, dynamic, monitor, vocal), on monitor mode the s880db and A100 sound almost similar, on classic mode the s880db sounds more open and more 3d, I wished the A100 had these presets it would make them sound more 3d and dynamic. The T5 subwoofer works well with the A100, it blends in nicely. It's a hard choice. The s880db in my opinion is really a gem, I bought mine for 140 euro used in new condition. The A100 is 600-700 euro new, do they sound 4 times better? Not that I can hear. My setup was the s880db with optical cable connected to a Sony tv and 2 Edifier T5 subwoofers, connected in stereo (left and right rca) to the headphone output of the tv so I have stereo subwoofers, basically it's similar to two 3-way speakers. I'm not sure if I keep the A100, the s880db with 2 T5 subwoofers is quite sufficient for my use. I still have 2 weeks to decide about the A100. If you have question let me know.

I mean they better sound amazing at £600, I wonder how the sound compared to some traditional studio monitors like the Yamaha HS8s which are a lil under £500. Interesting with all the connection options, they opted to not have XLR or 1/4 inch jacks which you would typically find on monitoring speakers, They done this by bypassing the need for an audio interface, but i wonder if this results in lower quality audio. I would've expected a USB-C connection though. Nonetheless if they do they job well at that price point, seems like theyve done a good job

This is so true! Usb c would have been a good addition - I'm on the mission to find some cheaper speakers which sound just as good now!
