I always watch beginning to end, and yes, your friend was correct - you cannot do this video without showing the bag. I too have come to the same point in life that you are at - although I am 60 years old so didn't figure it out quite as quickly in life as you did. Downsized my collection a few years ago and now, due to a different financial situation, I can no longer just buy bags whenever the desire hits me. I only have about 4 bags and they are all ones that I love. I am now saving for a vintage Chanel small double flap. My point in posting is that I now actually have learned to appreciate the process of waiting and saving for a bag. A bag has to be very special in order for me to allow it into my space and the process of saving for it now adds to my appreciation when I actually attain the bag. I hope this realization helps anyone that is in my age bracket....it's never too late to learn what Caitlin has learned and very generously shares with us all.

Happy to see you excited about a fun purchase! Moderation mindset is a good thing - if finances allow for it there is no need for an all or nothing extreme. I think this is the next phase for you - realizing that you can be intentional and trust yourself to make reasonable choices and then enjoy the result!

For the last 15-ish years I had a savings account where I used to save money for the really big luxury purchases. But every time I saved enough money, when the time came to buy the item, I couldn’t make myself pull the trigger. The account has grew big enough to be a down payment for a new apartment. Do I need to say that it made me happier than any bag or watch ever could?

This is how birthdays used to be; we didn’t have money to buy what we wanted when we wanted, we had to wait for our birthday or Christmas for gifts and that’s what made it special. I don’t buy luxe very often because it then becomes the norm and yes, less special, however I’m in my 50s so I have intentional spending down pat by now.

I got my first lv as a Christmas gift as I knew the price was ridiculous. Do I regret going down that path. Once in a while. I did not buy more than two others after that gift as far as luxury but I refuse to contemplate it as in my world - it never made sense anyway tbh.

I've been a silent watcher for the last few months and I do love this kind of reflective content on spending and your journey as you get older and wiser. I personally was about to start purchasing designer products now in my late 20's but I have resisted due to your videos. Your videos help remind me to value the bags and clothes that I already love and have. Your content has really helped me to fight consumerism battles in my mind

Dude, Thank you for your honesty! I heard about you from another video blogger who was commenting on your "New Content" and honestly, I think your journey from one end of the spectrum to where you are now seems so healthy! As someone who let the fashion industry dictate every aspect of my life, and spent more money on bags and shoes than on my own mental or physical health it is awesome to see you doing this "luxury unboxing" in a way that is representative of how life can be for mere mortals. Where this wallet can bring joy but being aware hat the joy is a fleeting moment and you are able to live life outside the handbag world... Cudos lovely! Good job and I am definitely going to be watching more of this "new you". Thanks for showing us an honest version of this world and that both things can be true.

I quit (more or less on purpose) shopping luxury bags mostly because of the new crazy prices - they are out of my budget and comfort zone. But recently, I got this feeling back when I (sounds super silly, I know)was hunting down some of my favourite toys that I loved as a child on ebay. My aunt sold them years ago without asking me, and I was sad about this. Now was the time that I thought to myself: f*** it! I go get them back - and now I am searching, getting a bargain or not and waiting impatiently for my most loved Polly Pocket sets...😂😂😂 Silly, but at least not so expensive as handbags! 😇❤
Love your new handbag btw - and even better that you feel genuinely happy about this!! 🤎

I have been detoxing a few months from purchasing completely and it was great idea, and I made a conclusion, that as I love fashion and styling I don’t want to stop buying completely but I am more selective in my choices, reducing the budget for purchases and save more. I get things from brands collaborations so I have no need to buy so much, my wardrobe is quite classical and I put pieces into it only if I feel they are for long with me and it will rich my closet even more for long-term essentials. I got so much inspiration after this detox and cleaning of my closet. I am happy with what I have and what I decided. Might make a video about it❤

I watch your channel for your personality, not the bags so much (I can’t afford any of it haha), but I find you very relatable in terms of shopping/ wanting stuff, and now that you’re past it, it also mirrors my journey with (cheaper) shopping. I also get satisfaction from taking care of my clothes, shoes and bags. I don’t feel quilty anymore after shopping and I have been able to find so much healthier ways to cope with stress, anxiety and shame, dancing is my addiction now 💃🏻

I loved this video. I started watching right when you were deconstructing from shopping and it’s been great to see your journey and how thoughtful you’ve become about purchasing. I’ve never had the money to buy luxury, but I did used to shop for fun or to cheer myself up and this last year I realized I have too much stuff that I don’t use. It’s not even stuff I don’t like, but it’s too much for one person to actually wear and enjoy. So I’m on a low buy year and it honestly has made the few purchases I’ve made feel more exciting and special.

I’m happy to hear that you’ve found that feeling again 😊 I get that feeling with all of my bags and big purchases but I don’t with clothing and other bits.
I have taken to returning it straight away if it doesn’t make me feel that way or it’s too hard to make work for myself.
I do think that has a lot to do with my learnings over the years as you yourself has done because I have certainly been there but I also think it’s easier to return an item now and it’s also easy to find a replacement unlike before so there is no reason to settle anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️
Just adding I started to buy clothes from cheaper brands because of how I was feeling (which was a minefield) but that actually gave me more excitement as to finding something that was as good as what I was buying but ridiculously cheaper

I found your channel a few years back when my handbag journey got out of control. I’m in the mind space of being more intentional on what I have in my wardrobe currently and I’ve sold off the majority of my bags, but I find your not purchasing a bag for over a year such a motivation. I just purchased a luxury bag a few days ago for my birthday, and have decided I want it to be my last purchase for a while. Like you, I hope it’s in a 12+ month timeframe. I really want to be more disciplined and heal from what was likely a coping mechanism for me during a stressful season in life. And as you also touched on, to make handbag purchases special once more. Thanks for sharing your journey.

“Giddy excitement” as you perfectly phrased it, is my number 1 rule!
With one exception, I never purchase the bag on first sight, and I only shop instore.
I walk away and allow the feelings to either go away or build. Then I book with my SA for a date a while out. And I wait again ❤
By the time I make the purchase I’m giddy with excitement.
And I’ve never returned a single purchase. Each one still thrills me ❤

I always watch your videos to the end!! I'm an intentional buyer. When I was younger, it was out of necessity and now it's just a habit. When I finally decide to make that special purchase, I'm always checking the tracking number ... it DOES feel like Christmas!

If you stop having the rush of immense joy and love for your purchases then it’s a sign to slow down. I’ve never been a huge shopper and every luxury bag I have I’ve given a lot of thought to before purchasing. I will most often wait a few months to make sure I’m still dreaming of the bag, shoes, etc. I’m not about to make a big purchase impulsively. For the most part I will purchase or my husband will buy me a bag for an occasion….birthday, Christmas, Anniversary or Mother’s Day. I feel it gives the purchase more meaning. I’m so glad that you’ve got that excitement back and realize that before you weren’t even enjoying your bags before thinking of the next. That can be very toxic and dangerous for most people financially.😖

Hi Caitlin! 👋 I was here for your old content, & I coincidentally started becoming more intentional with my own purchases, right around the same time you did. I still love designer jewelry & handbags, but I tend to admire those things from afar, w/o adding them to my shopping cart, these days. Really, there isn't much that I actually need, & the truth is that a lot of that stuff doesn't even suit my lifestyle, anyway. But I agree... for me to make a big purchase, it would have to not only be something I'd use constantly- I'd also have to be ecstatic about receiving it in the mail!

I was a subscriber from b4 ur channel shift I enjoy ur old content and the new content I’m 34 this year and really had to take a step back 2 years ago bc I had a shopping addiction. I would personally like to see some things you still purchase and why coming from your new mindset around shopping I think that would be interesting. Congrats on the Kelly to go it’s super cute.

You can buy things from time to time and be completely content and satisfied just because you buy this wallet on chain does not mean that you’re going to go back to your always at all it’s actually very healthy to be able to buy things once in a while without feeling the guilt, so bravo to you!!

I would never give it all up but I feel like I need to slow down and curate special pieces only. Keep going and don’t let negative people affect you. You’re moving in a positive direction. Congrats! The Kelly to Go didn’t end up working for me even though I paid a premium on the 2nd hand market and sold under retail. I tended to over stuff it so it could hold my phone and found closing and opening put too much stress on the touret. Traded up for a mini lindy that could hold a bit more but if you treat the KTG just as a wallet it’s great and I hope you love it!

I originally watched your videos for the luxury unboxings and im still here. I like both - me personally are somewhere in between ur old and new lifestyle. Im still in my 20s and expect I’ll be wanting to spend less in my 30s. For now i really enjoy my luxury shopping (which is not extreme by any means as I’m a student and only have a parttime job). But i do feel the heavy cravings for shopping from time to time, and still trying to find the balance ur talking about. Where I still indulge and enjoy fashion and shopping as a hobby, but where it doesnt just feed the craving

Unsolicited advice from someone who is 29 going on 30: get your emergency fund built up early because it's harder to do so when loan payments kick in. I love the few luxury items I have. If my goals change in the future, it feels good knowing in most cases, I wouldn't have to sell anything. That's how I found a balance

I get what you mean. I am an avid shopper but am way more intentional now. Not nearly as many impulsive choices. You can really enjoy shopping when you’re not as frivolous about it. I now review my closet and see what I am not wearing. If it’s a high quality designer piece and a classic style then I keep it. If I can no longer fit it then it’s sold, given away, or donated. Now I have been buying a mix of designer and bridge wear for 30 years and between pregnancy, marriage, life and the menopause…almost half of it no longer fits so beware young ones..the body you have today will most likely not be the body of tomorrow which is okay…thats called life. This is long…sorry.
I’m a life long gym rat and half marathoner and am 16 pounds over my 30 year old selfs weight. It is a daily battle just to try to stay in my size 8’s.(old size was 6) I don’t do any extreme diets and just try to eat like a normal person..not vegan, not keto, no Adkins’s, just a normal person who still eats carbs. I say all this to say let’s all not get too serious about shopping. It is an expense..not an investment. (Except for Hermes Quota bags) It should be fun and enjoyable..something we look forward to. And a lot of it won’t be worth beans in 20 years so lets all relax and just enjoy the shopping we do.
I have a few”it” bags from the past and they were all around $1,500 back in the 90’s.($1,500 then is like $4,500 now) Those handbags are worth nothing now..maybe $100 bucks at a thrift store. This will be the fate of most bags with the exception of Hermes. Back then Prada, Burberry, Gucci and LV reined supreme. No social media just fashion mags, Vogue, Elle, Harpers,..you would fold the page and on the weekend go to the mall and seek out the item. I still rock those bags and they have held up extremely well. All the hardware is in mint condition (still very little scratched hardware .why can’t they do that no) Most of the clothes are not worth much now however replacing a limited edition Burberry runway piece is impossible today( and surprisingly still a bit pricey if you can track them down) and the quality back then was so superior that I now buy 65% of my lux designer stuff second hand. I’m not dropping $1,200 on khaki pants when they show up on resale sites 6 months later with tags for $300. I only pay full price for the occasional handbag or piece of clothing that I love and that might be 6-8 pieces.
Additionally I found that shopping IRL is saving me so much $$ since it takes more effort than clicking add to cart. I know this is long but I thought this might resonate with some of your viewers. I think we all forgot about how much fun IRL shopping is. It is so much fun and I am in so much more control since I stick to my January wishlist 85% of the time. Once I know my size from a designer as they do vary I hit the web an all the sites and set up alerts…and wait for the sales. I am occasionally tempted but never impulsive for any big ticket items. And if I miss an item I don’t sweat it. This shopping strategy drags out the process and I find it is enjoyable…plus I burn extra calories when I hit the mall lol! I can skip the gym on those days.
    😁👛

Yep, still here. I’m at the point where I only buy a major accessory once every 1 to 3 years depending (handbag, piece of fine jewellery, etc.). Now in my mid 40’s I came to the realisation that I will never need to purchase a handbag or a wallet ever again unless I have a specific occasion or want a specific look. I have enough to last me though until I’m at least 100 without them wearing out. It was an interesting (& liberating) feeling. I’ll probably buy a few more in my lifetime, but my focus has now completely shifted & it does actually feel special when I do purchase something.

Oh girl! It seems that every enjoyable thing on this earth is bad for our health, waistline or bank account....i started cutting back on the shopping 1 or 2 years ago, deciding that i should spend my money on experiences instead of things. I don't have any children who will inherit my things and i won't take these things to the grave. So i'd rather die with good memories in my head. But i admit, sometimes it's hard to resist buying a nice bag or pair of shoes. But i know that if i do buy them, the satisfaction won't last very long.

I got this feeling around xmas. I saw a jacket while window shopping out with the husband and fell in love. But it was expensive so I left it. I could not get it out of my head 😅 so I told HB the next day, let’s go have another look! I need your objective feedback.
I put an outfit on that would be the vibe I would be styling it with. Tried it on and just stood there in awe 🤣🤣 he just went “you gotta”. So I did.
I have been wearing this thing for everything. Any excuse is good enough. HB is doing a good job at hyping it up too 😄 when he sees me in it “amore, you look so damn cool !!!” (He’s the best)
