EXTENDED COVERAGE: Baltimore bridge hit by cargo ship collapses, sends cars, people into river

- At least eight people, all construction workers, were on the Francis Scott Key Bridge at the time, resulting in them plunging into the water along with multiple vehicles.
Governor Wes Moore declared a state of emergency due to the incident.
"We are thankful for the brave men and women who are carrying out efforts to rescue those involved and pray for everyone’s safety. We will remain in close contact with federal, state, and local entities that are carrying out rescue efforts as we continue to assess and respond to this tragedy," Moore said.
The USCG confirmed to 7News that the container ship DALI struck the bridge. The 948-foot ship was sailing under the flag of Singapore.

take a serious look at the wheel house on that cargo ship and try to explain how they can pilot with the containers blocking their vision.
Thise ships are super loaded down with multiple sea-can containers!! I've always wondered about that myself!!
The ship lost power multiple times, which resulted in a loss of control. They'd dropped anchor and were trying to slow down as soon as they got power back. It was a mechanical failure, not a human one.
As soon as they lost power and control, they radioed a mayday, and the nearby MDOT station immediately stopped any more traffic from crossing the bridge... which saved a lot more lives.

It may seem counterintuitive that a ship would stop immediately after colliding with a structure that collapses so readily. One might assume that if the structure was destroyed so effortlessly, it wouldn't possess the mass necessary to halt an out-of-control ship.
The ship did not sink, it did not catch fire. I'll stop there, but obviously over rushed reporting.

I dont know wth she was talking about, the ship (not boat) was not on fire and didn't sink.
The ship lost power and that smoke coming from the ships funnel was an attempt to restart it's engine not a fire on board. Get your facts together before reporting false information!
That mayor doesn't know how to address this situation.

I don't know why the news gives out. False information, my fiancé, thank God he wasn't working last night. They will have the big cranes out there tomorrow. With his company. There are not 20 people missing.
It was 8 or 9 is either 2 or 3. It was rescued one walked off the scene. He didn't go to the hospital. One is in critical condition. The other one. I'm not sure I won't know until my fiancé gets home. But I wish people would stop putting false information on This horrible accident we need to be praying for people. That's what the news should be saying, but you guys won't even bring the Lord Jesus Christ up. That's what we need to be doing. I don't mean to be upset. But when you put false information yet you get people upset on things.
I can't say no more than this. I was told not to, but please put the right information in search and get it right if I'm allowed to say anything else I will. And it will be the truth because my fiancé works for the company.😢
