  • Quick guide showing the timing belt replacement procedure on a 5 cylinder Volvo D3/4/5 engine.
This video specifically relates to the C30/S40/V50 platform, but the procedure is very similar on other models.
Some steps have been omitted for brevity and torque specifications have not been included - this video is for entertainment purposes only and is not to be used as a reference.
    Thank you for watching!

    Great clip. Great job.
Mechanic charged me £700 (mostly labour) for the same job on a VW Polo.

This video has really eased my worries about doing this on my V40. I'd watched a few other D5 engines, usually in v70's, but I know the V40 bay is quite a bit tighter than those. I've got a a new set of aux belts and tensioners, is there plenty of room in there to get these both out? It actually looks easier than any other the other cambelts I've done, usually on french or italian cars!

Glad the video was of some use!
Good shout replacing the aux belts and tensioners as they’re quite famous for snapping and wiping out cylinder heads…
I’ve never worked on a V40 but there is plenty of room for the aux belts and tensioners on the C30, so I reckon you’ll have no problems. Only issue I encountered was squeezing the water pump in and out. Took over an hour but eventually removed it after messing around with engine mounts.
Please let me know how you get on with it. Cheers
