Love Serj. His vocal range, harmony and verbrato are incredible. Thank you SOAD for getting me through the tail end of 2020 and the hardest moments of my paramedical science studies. I’m now into Serj’s solo music in addition to SOAD while I embark on a double bachelors degree in criminology and forensic psychology. PEACE guys✌️. Much love ❤🙏🇦🇺
System of a Down was one of the only bands to come out of the early 2000’s that had longevity. Lots of disposable rock stars came out of that cringey era. Serj has a vocal range that very few human beings could ever hope to even have a sliver of. Like Freddy mercury before him. Both are generational talents. Once in a lifetime type of artists.
Excellent interview, Xtina (despite the exitement/nerves) 😅 Your ability to deliver relevant and interesting questions, whilst holding space for genuine connections with the artist, fosters an open and honest conversation. Just because it doesn't have what some people want to hear about, doesn't mean it isn't an awesome insight into this legend. Serj, you absolute sweetheart.. for me, the song to introduce people to SOAD which explores your ethos, influences, and is accessible to the normies has gotta be Aerials - with full intro and outro haha - thank you for all your incredible work in holding corporations and governments accountable for their atrocities. Spiders was my introduction to SOAD, and the film clip resonated with all of my favourite elements of metal and film production.
Fantastic interview! It’s obvious she was excited and antsy about the interview! Thanks for actually asking thoughtful questions! Already got my tickets for invocations! Fuck ya!
I love pithy quotes and got a new one today: “Repetition in art is redundancy. Redundancy is the death of creativity.” great one Serj! #WakeUP #TonyBourdainRIP
Must admit, and by the way people express gratitude towards Chop Suey, a very important to speak more about. Yet also to mentioned a link, and reference towards Electronic music: Keith Flint. Who had Aerials played at his funeral. The Prodigy. R.I.P.
Serj said early 90s for Mike's first record with fnm. That false first record came out in 1989 and they were producing it before that around 1988 with mike. :3
So did he actually just say that they're trying to make another album with System and a nu metal reunion tour next year? Cause this is what he hinted at.
@@Konfide4043 only people with no talent or skill think that all talent and skill comes from an imaginary supervillain. I'm sure you have no idea what I'm talking about, and that's okay..

Great interview. One bone to pick though: Electronic music isn’t just for dancing, Serj. I primarily listen to Industrial (and all of its sub-genres) and it’s much “heavier” and more aggressive at times than conventional Rock based Metal. I also listen to a lot of old school Hardcore, and much prefer it over Metal. I’m not a fan of obnoxious guitar solo’s.
some political dance music : Spiral Tribe, all the wolrdwide free party movement acctually, U.R Underground Reisstance (originators), Atari Teenage Riot (before they became rockstars in their head), Autechre I think in their own way, shitload of sound-systems and other artists
Hey dude, that is true BUT they put out two songs in 2020 and still write together. VERY valid point that they haven't done a full album in forever, but they're not exactly estranged. Anything could happen next. And thank you.
Electronic music gentrified? Really? Not a very fair comment, just because white people became hugely interested in something doesn't mean it was "stolen" or "gentrified". Nice attempt at shoving your politics in the middle of an interview though, glad that Serj didn't bite that one.
@@Ottophil okay and people of a different race taking a part in it doesn't make it appropriation LOL people of amy race should be able to contribute and partake in an art form. White people made country, should black people be frowned upon when they make country music?

I'd love to hear/watch a 3 hour conversation with this guy. Too bad Joe Rogan has really sh**ty taste in music...unless you're a fan of Honey-Honey and Everlast. smfh
I was sure the only thing Rogan knows about music was Hendrix. His talks with musicians are cringey af. Somebody needs to rival him as the "Rogan of Music"
Love JR but I have to agree after watching his interview with Rick Rubin when they spoke about SOD he didn't seem interested. Maybe I've become a podcast snob after watching JRE because this interviewer didn't do well
@@mollymae44 Yeah, Rogan's personal lack of music depth tends to be one of his weaknesses when interviewing somebody like a Rick Rubin. That was still a decent podcast overall. One of the most cringe moments during that Rogan/Rubin episode was when they were talking about the Beastie Boys, and Rogan was drooling over the Paul's Boutique album...and then Rick said, "Uh, yeah...I didn't produce that album"...and then Rogan kept on drooling over it, instead of maybe going back to the only Beastie album that Rick produced. I mean, Paul's Boutique is probably my favorite Beastie album, but if I had the producer of the Licensed to Ill album as a guest in my studio, I'd certainly spend more time asking more about THAT album than the one that immediately followed it. Just a bit awkward. I though JR would have readjusted in that moment, but he just kept on gushing over Paul's Boutique instead.
@@pekerhed101 yeah I still enjoyed the episode but Rick Rubin carried it 1000%. Oooof yeah I picked up on that. Have you watched the broken records podcast with Rick Rubin interviewing Serj Tankian? It's the best.
@@mollymae44 I didn't even know about Rick Rubin's podcast until this week. Somebody suggested that I watch the Andre 3000 episode first...but then I'll watch the Serj one after that. Thanks.
