  • While most rodeos in Canada have banned Cowboy Poker, the Calgary Police Rodeo has made it the premier event. It is the last event at the annual Calgary Police Rodeo which started in 1983 and is hosted in Cochrane, Alberta, a town 30kms west of Calgary.
I had the pleasure of covering the first Calgary Police Rodeo in 1983 and it is ironic that 40 yrs. later I am still covering that same rodeo, only now it is much bigger and 1000's of spectators attend the annual event each year.
The last person sitting at the table in Cowboy Poker, or Bull Poker, is the winner. This bull eliminated one of the players and the next bull you'll have to see in the following video. He eliminated the playing field with one foul swoop.
Police, fire and EMS personnel have to have nerves of steel to do their jobs, but it is a lot different when a 1500 pound bull is racing towards you. Most animals will avoid hitting or running into people, but bulls, they go out of their ornery way to hit something, anything that may make a good target. Please check out the finale of the Cowboy Poker event in the next video. Don't blink, it is over in a second or two.
