    Glycene is a good company but would be out of business if it wasn't for invicta. Invictas CEO has stated they want to keep Glycene as their higher end Swiss Watch company. If Glycene didn't need to make some changes they wouldn't have been about to go bankrupt. I think we can count on Glycene to be around for the foseeable future and hopefully making great watches for a long time. I'd buy their watches no problem. Good review.

    Invicta insider here.
    One of the biggest way we helped Glycine from going under was our buying power of Sellita movements. We Never got involved in how Glycine manufactures their products. Just inserted more money into the company and our buying power in the movements they use was more than enough to keep the company competitive.

    There is AR on the underside. That’s the only place you want it, trust me, I have it on my Breitling and Panerai and it causes scratches because the AR coding is not as hard as it has the sapphire so it might as well be acrylic or mineral crystal because you have to look at scratches on it until you replace the crystal again.

    • @WrongTimeWatch
      @WrongTimeWatch  3 года назад

      I have heard that you can remove the AR coating from the topside of the crystal. However it is kind of a hassle to do so. Rolex does net even use AR coating at all. So just having it on the underside ought to be good enough.

    They are using a different spring in the bezel on the new Glycine which is why it has a little bit more flex on the bezel itself. I liked the old logo more but they are pretty much the same other than some additional markings on the dial and a simplified logo. I'm glad Invicta stepped in to help them out. There are so many old good watch companies that went out of business. A lot of people really rate these and I'd like to add one to my collection. You get some great deals on these in the US. I have a bit more of an uphill battle here in the UK. I think you've got a site called Ashford that has some bargains, especially with the seasonal sales. I'd have to pay import tax whether I got these from the European Site or the US one and it adds quite a bit to the price.

    While Invicta makes throw away garbage, Glycine is still solid. Very well priced for a Swiss Made automatic watch. The new ones have replaced the ETA movement because ETA has said they will no longer sell movements outside of their Swatch owned world (not sure if that has been implemented). The new movement (Sellita) is actual a 26 jewel movement that works vey well. I bought one and noticed no bezel movement. COSTCO has a few models at very reasonable prices. Given the thefts of expensive watches these days, I have to be very careful wearing expensive watches and have a few watches like this one that are ideal if you are traveling or in a lawless urban environment like NYC, LA, Chicago etc.

      @@WrongTimeWatch I'm prob going around in circles by repeating others' comments, however, sites do talk about post Invicta Glycine using Chinese made parts assembled in Switzerland. Some debate about this but it would explain the drop in price point and perhaps undermine the brand's perception and quality of the piece overall. Eg. The chapter ring apparently gives a suspension effect when you push face-down and only gives a 60 click rotation. Seeing and feeling the thing would be the ultimate decider but Invicta brand does spoil the impression of a prestige piece if there is one to be had.

      I don't know for sure, but I would be willing to bet that the Glycine Combat Sub has the maximum amount of Chinese parts possible to stay under the limit to use "Swiss made" on the dial. I am also willing to bet that the Gylcine Combat Sub was also using chinese parts before the Invicta take over.

    Very nice comparison, I only have one tiny critique. When you say the SKX has the better overall lume, that seems to just be because the lumed area is larger. That is of course a design choice rather than a quality aspect. I think from the way you phrased it, that wasn't immediately clear.
