I use and old Massey Ferguson Disk 10 footer you may have seen it in the spring planting video. I normally brush hog the field and then use an aggressive cut to turn that material under and leave it a couple of weeks prior to planting. I also use the disk to disk a fire break before a prescribed burn. They are a very handy tool.
I’m new to farming. Just bought a similar style and sized disk. Hoping it will tear up my alfalfa/grass field. I’m pretty sure I need to plow but everyone in the area warns against plowing in this high desert. My field has been growing and mulching for years now…
Great Video! Really cool if you got the time and the area to show the differences of the different angles of the disc and what they can be used for. We are a RhinoAG dealer and have been sharing your videos to help others learn about the products and how they can use them. Keep up the great videos!
That's a great idea for a video and maybe something we can do at a later date. Thank you, not just for the idea of course, but for sharing the videos as well!
We are using a disk to keep fire lines open around blueberry fields, which get burned every other year. Also about to disk in some buckwheat in prep for a fall cover crop of oats and winter rye I tend to use it on a steep angle as I want to mix things up especially on the fire lines.
Makes a lot of sense for things like fire lanes - since you don't want anything to grow there. Blueberry fields are burned every other year? I did not know that!
How did this work for you? I have a crop field my dad always rented that hes letting me use now for a hay field. I spread manure mixed in hay scraps from my neighbors barn and only junk grass came up. I was excited at first but after my first Bush hogging its clear that its all staulk and no leaf, no good for hay or grazing. I now plan to disc in the cut junk grass and hand seed a hay mix. I dont have access to a drill or till drill so, ill be seeding by hand after the discing
Nice job. Just bought a old set. Learning track for me.

Agreed, handy and versatile.
That ground looks like cement!
Those disks don’t look like they are doing anything at all! Sink it in man.

Burning is a form of pruning to spur new growth off the rhizomes.
Your front disk gang needs attention its seizing up.
Those piggies were very vocal!
Yeah, we should have fed them before shooting the video. Sorry :-(
Don't be sorry..it was so funny and they sounded adorable 💓
My first time discing two acres. Not going as well as I hoped. Probably should have plowed first.
I turn the disc straight and chop brush and undergrowth.

I have great rental place near me
Disc parts
Borrow it. A disc is like a pool or boat. Better to have a friend with one then buy one. 😄
