Hi guys. I’m glad you were able to come to my town. But you missed all the best parts, especially the lake. You have no idea what a hidden gem Okeechobee is. It’s a beautiful place to live. There are not that many bad parts and the people here are more like family than a town. We have an amazing Police Department and school system. And neighbors are true neighbors who help each other. The cattle ranches and dairy farms are beautiful. I would not call this a retirement community, because there are many families. However, we do get a lot of snowbirds in the winter and we welcome them because they help our economy. It just makes me kind of sad that you really did not do justice to our beautiful little town. You missed a lot of good stuff.
What’s the average cost of rent of a one bedroom apartment or a smaller one or two bedroom house? I live in NC and want to move to okeechobee. I want year round warm weather and I bass fish a lot and obviously it would be a dream to live by the lake.
By the time you return it will be nothing like the Okeechobee you knew. The corrupt county commission just changed the zoning laws and handed over a HUGE portion of land to developers who will be demolishing all the farms and trees to build a massive new community called Davina Springs. They plan to build 4,500 houses on the land, and they plan to build a major east-west thoroughfare through the county. I've seen this before. Other developers will come, and they will overbuild Okeechobee with more cookie cutter communities just as they did with Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie. Then comes congestion, traffic, crime, and a host of other problems as more and more people keep moving into the area. I was looking to sell in south Florida and buy acreage in Okeechobee, but in just a few years Okeechobee will be just like south Florida.
The lake is the only nice thing about this town. I grew up in Pinellas and had family who live in Ockeechobee. Its a "Cow Town". And if youre not from there the locals arent friendly at all.
I lived in this town a couple years ago it looks really beaten down since I was last living there looks like a lot of the restaurants i used to frequent have closed down and a bunch of shops and things have shut down including even some of the ranches looks like they’ve been bought out. Anybody local have any insight on how the town is doing? what happened to Cowboys? Southern accent Ranch Farms?
@@starshine6785 No it does look worn out. That's not necessarily a bad thing, however. It is very clean from the looks of this video. No trash or litter along the roadways.
As a person who is under 21 to me it’s mostly old people. There’s nothing to do for teenagers, young adults, and kids. We only have 2 parks one of them was the wooden jungle and they changed it completely. Both parks have a age limit. Theres no more bowling ally, no more arcades. Nothing for having fun for young adults and kids

Okeechobee is a cattle 🐄 and fishing town. Big speckle perch fishing town. It’s lay back here and country. like every where else it has its bad rural place and people you need to stay away from.

How’s the crime there now? Stats say it’s higher than the national average. That’s really heartbreaking

If anyone wants the best breakfast in Okeechobee, Pogey's is the place to go, next to Walmart in the middle of town.

You gotta drive around other areas of Okeechobee. It’s a great place to live and very beautiful once you get out into the country
