Yea I think they absolutely take a step back with Deboer, but nothing indicated they really fall off badly. Deboer is a better coach than anything LSU has had for a while. that's what he's missing

After Nick left LSU it took a long time for Leslie to mess it up. Not that Leslie was a bad coach. He just didn't progress with the times. Never threw to a TE. Man those offensives were hard to watch.
As an LSU fan, I am picking Bama to go to the SECC. They lost a turnip truck of five stars and they are still more talented than 95% of the teams out there.

I'm a Bama fan and I loved the fact you tell it like it is and I respect most LSU fans but this idiot on this podcast. I didn't like the hire at first but I was idiot because I didn't do my homework the guy has won everywhere he has coached and quick. If he can recruit at a consistent rate in ten years he will dominate the CFB and he wasn't afraid to follow the goat like most coaches!
That’s true but there was no portal back then so Les had no way of losing Saban’s recruits.
back then teams players couldn't just all dip from the team to another on a whim.. the program and talent still kept its structure for a few years, just like how Coker won at Miami with Butch Davis rosters.. Now Bamas 5 stars left already so it's gonna be his roster faster than anyone wanted it to be.. Usually the next guys best success is right away after losing a great coach, it's not that way anymore.

No they don't LSU 2025 class as of Yesterday..was No.2 behind Ohio State. Bama was 4th. But all that will fluctuate between now and December.

Alabama is killing it right now, the new regime will have to continue to prove themselves compared to established programs and returning coaches.... But Bama is recruiting nationally still on an elite level. As far as X and Os this staff is elite, maybe the best in the conference considering he's the reigning coach of the year.

We’re hoping we can win one in the next three years, maybe. We’re confident, and the team is currently good enough to win it this year, but our expectations are no where near “out of whack”
You’re the exception and not the rule. It’s easy to say how “perfectly fine” you’ll be if they go 9-3 and finish 4th in the SEC.

Alabama is the most successful program in the history of college football, and it was so prior to Nick Saban’s arrival in Tuscaloosa. There’s a relationship between the sustainment of Alabama’s football success and the expectations of the fanbase for more national championships. What you label irrationality in fan expectations is a nonnegotiable element of the coaching experience at Alabama.
Alabama is the most successful when you only consider the metrics they are the most successful in. They do not have more wins all time than Michigan I know that.

Agree with the gist of his message. Deboer was the only one on his staff that wanted to go to. I am rooting for him to fail. He accepted the job after the Sugar Bowl and checked out then. He needs to win 2 for Alabama to care. Brian Kelly is a top 3 or top 5 coach for sure. But Deboer is the best coach in the country. I hope he fails miserably but that's the truth.
Five diff coaches have won titles at Bama. A couple others came close. It's not about who is coaching, but how the program progresses. Deboer won a couple Div II titles and played for one last year.
He has a career 89% winning record. He'll win.

Most of the Bama fans I know realize that what Saban did isn’t repeatable. Most people want 9-3 or 10-2 this year which I think is reasonable. Yeah you have some looney tunes who say 12-0 but most don’t believe that’s real.
As far as “being stunned” we still have one of the best rosters in the sport. No one is keeping a roster like they used to. Georgia even lost 20 to the portal. That’s just reality.

9-3 wont be fine with me. Most people forget that Bama had won multiple championships before we ever heard of Nick Saban. Bama isn't Okie St or friggin UCLA. Nick Saban didn't SET the Bama standard, he MET the Bama standard that had been set by Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Red Drew, Bear Bryant.

Right, as a new football head coach transferring programs, you have to/are expected to go 11-2, or 12-1, 13-0 your first season- that is the standard. Yes, Sonny Dykes did it his 1st season at TCU. Is that the case for every new football coach? ABSOLUTELY NOT. When Saban started his first season, it was not perfect nor was it anything like I said above. You'd be crazy to think Alabama would rid itself of their new coach for the 1st season, that would be absolutely absurd and stupid and the undoing of a football dynasty.

At the end of the day he beat Texas two years in a row before taking this job. Both years Bama struggled against Texas where Deboer and Washington handled business. Texas is now in the SEC so that's a good comparison of similar opponents.

Matt has a history of being right about Bama lol. With NIL, it wasn’t going to be every year under Saban. A lot of Saban’s run is when the SEC had no other consistent power hitters. 9-3 would be great in year 1 for Deboer.

And as I mentioned before you have the other power hitter in Georgia and Texas appearing like they are building something. Texas especially with the NIL. You can also still have the number 1 recruiting class but if it is not as strong relative to others it will be harder. Just greater player spread.

I also heard way back in 2007 that Nick Saban will never win a National Championship at Alabama. That did not age well. The experts said the program is dead, this is not the program Bear Bryant led. Alabama was nothing but a relic of the past, they went through coaches like a baby does diapers. Nick Saban was taking over a program that was just a relic of history. Mediocre at best. They did have the 1992 season where they kicked some ass but that was 15 years before Nick Saban arrived. But the experts at that time said Nick would never win there.

I wouldn't bet against Deboer. Saban would have two more natty's but the last 5 or 6 years he couldn't keep a good coaching staff because they thought he could retire anytime. He didn’t say right now they are like LSU talent wise. He said the way they are trending with getting so many 3 stars and the lack of 5 stars coming in (compared to what Saban was regularly getting) that they will be in the territory LSU has been for most of two decades. Good enough to win 8-10 games per year and push for a title once every 4/5.

My daughter works in the athletic department at Bama and I hear what the coaches are saying they believe that Bama has as good of a chance to win this year. I'm not saying they will or not but their recruiting is on fire including this weekend !!
Nick Saban had a successful process that worked for 17 years. If coaches get rid of their own pride and studied Saban's process, they will be successful.

I'm an Bama fan, but no one wants to see the same team winning every year. Bama got so much hate when they was always winning or just making it to the playoffs. He will win at Bama, because he's going to build the team on how it fits for his team not Nick's. Oh yeah with some of the best talent, & no one thought Nick would win that many Championships at Bama. So we will see, that's why I love CF just to see how many people are wrong in the off season

Look at what happened to Frank Solich at Nebraska after Tom left. Alabama fans will not be happy with 10-2 or 9-3. Saban had a better run than Tom did and Nebraska fired Solich for 10-2 and 9-3 seasons.

@@seektruth814he went to the playoffs with a starting roster that was filled with Chris Petersens last three years. Ranked 16th, 15th and 18th. The only years he was involved in Washington recruiting, they were 59th, 29th and 30th. Over half his starting roster were 5th/6th year guys.
The 59th ranked class wasn’t really his fault at all. They went 4-8 in 2021 and he got hired in Nov so he had minimal impact on that class.
He’ll definitely have more talent at Alabama, but he’ll also be playing more talented teams. That knife cuts both ways.

If Alabama is not in national championship or winning a national championship in the next three years, there is gonna be a huge uproar.. there is something uncomfortable about Devore that people need to talk about which is his lack of great recruiting and that is needed to stay on top of college football. he inherited a great roster and had a great transfer quarterback, but everybody else on the roster at Washington was because of the previous coaches
