    Thanks, but I was wondering how to use control the length quantize in more of a live manner.. Some sequencers have a feature called hold (or similar) so that you can better determine you input step on a note by note basis.

    To be a little clearer AABACABD flatten that and insert a new track .record along with the flattened arranger track I know I can edit each of the various parts within an arranger section eg : edit HH on track 1 of A .The problem for me is if I want to edit ALL "A"s . The only way I know is to either edit each "clip" individually ,or undo the flatten and edit A and then re flatten the arranger track.I have tried various methods and the only workaround I can see is to save the linear tracks and then re-import after the 2nd flatten. Thanks again No big rush... maybe the next club Cubase ?

    Can you map the forwards/backwards buttons to a midi controller so you don't have to use your keyboard left and right arrows when stepping? And what are the options for controlling note length? Seems like from this video you either have to input all the notes the same length and then adjust them afterwards, or you need to keep using your mouse to change the note length in the dropdown.

    • @gregondo376
      @gregondo376 6 лет назад +1

      You can easily assign independent note lengths and navigation from within the generic MIDI remote so that you can change the values via drum pads on a controller for example. I forgot to show that in this take

    • @clarkharrell2227

      @@gregondo376 I apologize if you already explained this, Greg, but could you share how you do that? I stopped using step input because I got frustrated with having to adjust the quantize value everytime I wanted a different length. But if you can really expedite that element then that'd be a lifesaver!

    • @gregondo376
      @gregondo376 6 лет назад +3

      Clark Harrell Go to Studio Menu - Studio Setup and click on the + sign in the upper left corner and select Generic Remote and set the correct MIDI ins and out for your controller. This window will be broken down into 2 windows; the top is the incoming MIDI message and the bottom the function that is executed by the incoming MIDI message. The top and bottom are directly linked by the fader number so fader 1 on top controls fader 1 on bottom..
      Define the MIDI notes or messages in the top for the functions, you can also use the MIDI learn function to speed up the process. At the top you want MIDI status to be note on, the correct channel and the number of the note message. Again the learn function simplifies the setup. Select the note or MIDI message and then click learn on the right side. In the bottom under device select command, under the channel/category choose set insert length and the rhythmic value, i.e.¼ or 1/8 under value/action. This sets the length of the note inserted independent of the quantize value.
      To navigate forward and backward in time you can set the MIDI note on top in the same way as before. In the bottom choose command in the Device column, Navigate under channel/category and right or left under value action.
      The quantize value determines the rhythmic interval that the cursor advances. This can be set in the generic MIDI remote as well. I assigned the set insert length to white keys and the quantize value to black keys. Set the MIDI note as before and in the bottom definition area set Command under Device, Quantize Category under Channel/Category and Set Quantize value to the desired rhythmic value.
      When inputting MIDI you may want to use a different MIDI input port for the notes as opposed to including the notes being transmitted for the step inputted notes.

    Thanks for another great reference GregI have a question and could not find a video on this Regarding the arranger trackonce you have misc. parts or phrases input /written and want to add a linear melody or various parts on a linear basis,is there a way to draw or re arrange the parts easily other than to Flatten the arranger track and do it manually ? I hate to mention other DAWS but, Reason ,(blocks) and Live (clips) allow you to do this freely, although editing those parts is not as intuitive as Cubase .The only work around I can see is flattening the arranger track and the writing your solos , melodies ,or whatever after you flatten it . The ISSUE is if you want to change a part you have to do it to all of them seperately(mistakes ?) I cant undo the flatten without losing the linear parts unless I save them separately and re-import them after .Thanks great channel !

      I'm also curious about whether it's possible to record overarching structures which are detached from the Chain. Would be cool if it was possible to remove specific tracks from being part of the Arranger Track in order to accomplish this.

    Every note I play on my midi controller is stuck at the same volume. I want the velocity levels to match how hard and or soft I play. it used to work that way but now it won't, is there a hidden setting to restore?

    • @gregondo376
      @gregondo376 6 лет назад

      There are 4 icons with the step entry toolbar. From left to right, activates step input, record pitch, record note onvelocity and record note off velocity. Make sure that you have the 3rd icon, capture record note on velocity enabled and all should be well. I think it is shown at around 2:56 in the video.

      Thanks Greg, However that did not work either. I tried every option you mentioned. I tried resetting the preferences, I tried to repair, I even uninstalled and reinstalled Cubase 9.5 to no avail. I tried using other controllers that normally worked but every note I play on the midi controllers have no variation in velocity no matter how hard and or soft I pressed down on the Keys. The velocity always says 75. This has never happened before ever since I started using Cubase back when It was Cubase VST. I tried to Search for a hardware problem but none was found. I updated my Steinberg UR 22 drivers. I am Stumped. Normally, I never had to change any default setting before, it just automatically worked with every new install and or update.

    Hi Greg, I know it's off topic but it's important for me. I use Cubase Artist 8 and there is no routing function for recording live played VST direct to audio. For me as a piano player that's not so good. Is there any reason why I should upgrade to the full version for some hundred dollars because of one feature (beside that I miss nothing). For your upgrade price alone other devs offer a full featured non limited DAW without dongle system ... or is there another way to have that for me essential feature? Would be glad if you could offer an alternative solution. Cheers

    • @Cubase
      @Cubase  6 лет назад

      Hello, there is no other way to have that feature than to upgrade to the Pro version, not only you will have the flexible routing option, but many more features, like the full chord assistant, and VariAudio, and many more, you can find more about it with the following videos: ruclips.net/video/yixno1fXN6c/видео.html ruclips.net/video/0yYoWDl9L_I/видео.html

      thank you. I am a piano- and keyboard player and don't need such stuff as chord makers. For sound processing and efx I use Meldaproduction MXXX. You literally don't need anything else. The only further thing very important for me is the modulation lane for VST and it's relatively good in Artist 8. Do you have discounts sometimes for the upgrade on the PRO Versions? I might consider that but only if you can offer a non dongle or non machine based authentification system so that I can use Cubase without hassle on two machines. I will wait till that day then maybe an upgrade will get interesting due to the aspect that I find the compatibility of VSTs very good in Cubase. Can you state a little of what your opinion is concerning these points? Thank you. Cheers.

    • @Cubase
      @Cubase  6 лет назад

      Hello, if you are currently on Artist we do have a promotion going on, that ends in just two days, and we have been advertising since the beginning of this month, you can find all information here: www.steinberg.net/en/promotion/special_upgrade_offer.html you can upgrade from Cubase Artist 8 to Cubase Pro 9.5 with a 40% using the: UPGRADE18 code at the online shop, but you should hurry up. No, currently you need the USB-eLicenser as you have been using it until now. With one license you can run Cubase in one computer at the time, but with the eLicenser you can install the software on as many computers as you want then run Cubase whenever the USB-eLicenser is connected to it. If you want to run Cubase in two machines at the same time you need to purchase another copy of Cubase, there is no other way at the moment, yes, we are working in a different licensing system but it will not be available any time soon.

    Hi Greg, How do I use my guitar to trigger midi in cubase?

    • @skyfire322
      @skyfire322 6 лет назад

      You could use the VariAudio function. When you're in there, turn on Pitch and Warp, select all notes, then go to Function > extract as MIDI. Create an instrument track, and drag the MIDI file down. Works great for single notes, but I haven't tried it with chords, yet.
