    hi Naomi! swedish person here! Both "dammsugare" and "polly" have arrak in them, which is a type of brandy or schnapps so to speak, us swedes love alcohol :D Also the pickles you bought are called "salladsgurka" or "sötgurka" which literally means sweet cucumber. You are supposed to put them either on a sandwitch with liver paste or on cheese! You can also eat them on the side of some swedish stews, one in perticular is called "kalops" which is meat based, a classic. Ikea is ofc very popular in sweden, but Ikea meatballs are nothing like the home made ones. I hope you can come to sweden soon, id love to see you there! ^^

    Swede here! The green pastries are called damsugare (vacuum cleaner) because at bakeries they would mix up all day old pastries they didn’t sell and put arak (an alcoholic drink) in it to moisturise and flavour the “dough”. They are decorated to look like old vacuums since they “cleaned up” whatever was left over in the bakery 🟫🟩🟫

      Sounds a bit like Rumkugeln (translates to rum balls) my mom makes when its Christmastime. But she uses old cookies (mostly from last Christmas xd) and chocolate for it. Usually you would apparently use real rum to put more flavor in but she only uses rum flavouring. At the end she covers the little balls in chocolate sprinkles.

    Hey Naomi, this is gonna sound so random but I recently rewatched one of your videos where you get a piercing and it seemed like you were getting a little faint when recovering, this happens to me from time to time. What really helps me is hydrating (coconut water seems to help me more than regular water), laying down and there are a few muscle exercises where tensing leg and arm muscles in a sitting position can help circulation. It can be really scary to feel that way. This is just what works for me. Anyway, random moment of really late concern from me. Take care! Love your channel.

    I went to an IKEA near New york city a few years ago and my boyfriend at the time bought me the frozen plant based meatballs and they were so good that I ate them for weeks!! i am pescatarian and they had a lot of salmon dishes there, my favorite was a smoked salmon dish. its been a few years so i dont know if they still have that, but I think about her often

    We have an IKEA and the showrooms USED to have so much color and it was Edgy. But now it’s all neutrals. The IKEA by me is so short of things to sell that they made an actual “exit with out purchasing” line. The food is meatballs and potatoes but funny being an American location: no American food lol. I love your energy! Just started watching! Best wishes!

    I find it both appropriate yet hilarious that in Germany something called "Food of the Gods" is just a weird Jello/gelatin dessert, and here in the southern USA there is a dish called Ambrosia (which was the food of the gods in Greek mythology) that is just weird fruit salad dessert. 😆

    13:18 Those pastries are called "Dammsugare" in swedish which is vaccum cleaner lol. I think its because they used to take all the crumbs from cookies or pastries and make it into a pastry with chocolate and marzipan. And they also look like old vacuum cleaners. (im swedish)

  • @pamandr
    @pamandr 2 года назад +4

    As a swede I love the food at IKEA, especially the meatballs! But I can imagine it is a little bit different in different countries. Also the almond pastry are with arrak and are very loved here, we call them "dammsugare" which means vacuum cleaner (or literally translated vacuum is dust sucker, damm-dust sugare-sucker).

  • @refira2974
    @refira2974 2 года назад +6

    Regarding the pickles, we have 2 kinds in Sweden. The sweeter ones are also called "smörgåsgurka" (directly translates to sandwich cucumber 😅) and we commonly add those to sandwiches with liver paté. But we have regular pickles as well 😅 the green pastry in Sweden is called dammsugare (vacum cleaner 😅) where the green stuff is marzipan. The filling I'm not sure what's in it but it's good ❤️

    I used to get Princess Cakes every time I went. 🤤 It was sponge cake with a layer of jam and a dome of whipped cream covered in a thin layer of marzipan. They were sooooo delicious! But after COVID, they stopped serving them at the IKEA near me. ☹️ Now I can only get them frozen and they’re just not the same.

    Edit: I mixed them up with a similar looking pastry. They're not 'bokkenpootjes', but 'mergpijpjes'. The reason I mixed them up: I dislike both, so I haven't seen them for a long time xD.

    The green cakes look super similar to a Dutch treat called "Mergpijpjes", they look the same from the outside but are white in the middle instead of green and we don't put anything alcoholic in them. Here they're just little cakes (like a small vanilla cake) with some cream and jam in the middle and then the outside is marzipan and chocolate.

    I work as a food cashier in the restaurant at an IKEA in the U.S. It was very cool to see the IKEA where you live and see the food menu. We do have chicken tenders, salmon fillets, and cod fillets some times. We have the classic meatball, plant ball, and veggie ball. A lot other stuff too like salads and a variety of cakes that we switch out at times. So when I saw the jello I was like whattt! Anyways I’m sorry the food was a bit disappointing but I’m glad you still enjoyed your visit. Swedish person here. The smörgåsgurka is not really the same as pickles, it’s supposed to be sweet! We also have pickles that are like normal ones, like just salty. But these sweet ones we usually put on toast together with liver pâté!
