I know how to build quads in general but there were 2 very useful tips in here anyway: 1) Spin the motors to check for shorts 2) Use the rubberized battery strap for putting on props (I hate putting on new props on all of my quads, having cuts in my fingers regularly 😅) Definitely gonna use those in future 👍🏻
For those following along at home, the build is complete at 27:00, but for the Betaflight steps, in order to plug in the flight controller to the computer (27:30) you have to first remove the cowling, which is close to a full disassembly (!) Doing the Betaflight steps (and BLHelisuite, if you need to reverse motors) before finishing the cowling would be a nice pro-tip. Some tips about how to tighten the build without causing the props to rub the cowling would have been helpful as well.
How come when you entered the FC alignment you change the roll alignment and not the yaw @39:00? You spun the FC on its yaw axis 90degrees, you didn't roll it.....
11:05 he's literally burning the wire-insulation. I don't ever remember soldering requiring more than a few seconds with simple 40w irons. When we use to race off-road we soldered our batteries seconds before every Stock-class race to ensure we used up every bit of Nicad(a memory battery) we had.
Great Video Best Duo to build a Quad. "Just do it" and "Know it all"!!! At 12:00 put that great TS100 away for that and Show the People how to Solder a big XT60 to an 4in1 ESC. Use a Traditional Iron like a Weller 60W with a big copper tip, everything that Needs to hold on more than 3s is to Long and less Power on the Iron...
Hey guys, I'm new to FPV and plan on purchasing a ready set from you. I just have a couple of questions: will there be a mount for a GoPro already to attach? what else a newbie should invest in for the first time to maintain one? I don't have any working space at the moment and thats why i'm not building one from scratch just yet hahah
great video. are the ducts TPU ? or PLA+ ? they seems to be very flexible but I thought they were also here to protect and if it's TPU it will bend immediately after a shock
RideWithOKP PLA isn’t very flexible at all, relatively speaking. Like Josh said, it would shatter on the first crash (into your props, eek 😬). I would never suggest printing this rigid, but when it comes to rigid filaments, if you want something with a little flex that won’t shatter, I would look at PETG, or maybe nylon (but nylon is very finicky to print). Neither would work in this application because you really need the flex.
Hi Joshua Bardwell, we wish to learn something today. Could you compare the performances of a quad with the ducts and the same quad without the ducts and uncut props and normal prop guards? Even if you have slightly more thrust with the ducts, can it really compensate all the extra weight? The theory behind the ducts may work if you have a drone that moves just up and down (engineers use them only on things that fly straight like jets, rockets or hovercrafts for lifting), but what happens when the trust vector tilts, like on quads? Are ducts really good for cinewhoops or it's just an urban legend like many hobbyist are keep saying? Shouldn't a cinewhoop just fly way smoother without the ducts? I have one of these and in my opinion the only advantage is safety. But with less control, does it really mean that it's safer? Thanks
@@jg5235 not really.. he didn't use larger props and added extra weight to simulate the weight of the ducts on the quad without the ducts. Of course it just fly worst. I really don't understand why people like these noisy flying bricks.
You guys crack me up. Question, if you aim the go pro down, to get real estate like video from up high, do you have to crop the image? Getting my 107, getting this drone, getting money.
Alright, so, it seems it does need to be the Yaw Degrees category changed to -90. Another thing that I got wrong, but that wasn't in this video (but that I found the fix for on another Joshua Bardwell video, of course) was that there is a particular upright direction for each of the props. All together, thank you so much for the video! I got my parts in from Rotor Riot today for this thing and its been an adventure putting together my first quad!
Gday guys, nice work you two JB the comedy releaf eh!! Great build Nurk it was cool to watch awsome cinewhoop.👍🛸 Gday Drew behind the camera Mr producer sir.👍🛸
I may have found just one mistake: At the end, when you to to correct the flight controller orientation, it shows you putting -90 in Roll Degrees and not Yaw Degrees. Is that right?
I’ve kinda been waiting for this to come out because I’ve been eyeing a Squirt. Saw it was 40 minutes and I was like eh... usually build videos kind of drag. Nope. This was as entertaining for me as a flying video. Great chemistry. Nicely done guys!
How much extra thrust do the ducts provide though? the squirt v2 frame weighs 125g all up, I can build a lightweight whoop with guards instead of ducts at 68 grams.
Is the dji google and controller needed for dji air unit? I just want to buy the air unit and camera. The googles and controller are a little expensive
I think JB was just tense with a DJI air unit in close proximity to a metallic pointy object, all while Drib was floating around somewhere in the background. He was all tensed up waiting for the fire to come.
Probably the best cinewhoop ever created. My advice don't print the rotor riot kapper ducts though. Using those ducts , I have broken arms landing on two occasions . I went back to the original ducts and never broken arms since.
My squirt is weighing in at 540g with a gopro hero8 and an 850mah 4s batt which seems super heavy given the weights i've seen online. Even Paul wrote up about his build which was close to 100g lighter than what I am weighing in at. My ducts are 62g all together. Not really sure why mine is so heavy? It flies extremely heavy and kills a 1550mah battery in about 2 minutes. Any ideas on how to get the weight down?
I'm getting terrible rubbing between the propeller and the duct. The ducts I received from Rotor Riot were not round. Is this normal? Rubbing is so bad that I can't spin the propellers and let it wear in. In one duct the motor can't even spin.
What about the props? should we use a lower pitch prop or a higher pitch prop? Coz i saw some with 3052 and also 3028 which is very different. Im not sure which to use.

Great video, the humour between you both really made this video. Of course the knowledge was good too
Every build video I watch from now on has to have JB and Nurk working "together" to build the quad.
That motor drag spin check is really cool, thanks for that tip!
I was like, (short two wires, spin) = mindblown!
FET drag!!
Sparing newbies like me of excessive detail but totally full of useful info. Way cool stuff!

I love that Tip And so great to know that if I spin my motor freely the solder joints aren’t bridged nice tip
Just got my built and tuned one from rotor riot. Can't wait to fly it, but a few hours on the simulator first.
I loved the drone part in the Girl 'Pretty Sweet' video. It was mind blowing at the time,... like the skate parts!

How did you end up liking this drone...?
Just amazing, I love the Cine drones it’s why I got into this hobby. Great video and build guys 👍👍👍
Just out of curiosity, why was the board alignment adjustment on roll axes not yaw? Just some randomly confusing alignment of the sensor?

a 4S battery between 850mah and 1300mah in size is ideal. But VORT3X also runs 1550mah batteries with no issue, just a bit heavier
