- This tree is really coming together now. It was a really skinny thing when I started but it is filling out nicely. Finally starting to look like a "proper" bonsai.

I thought the tree looked rather grand at the beginning of the video, but then it was even more granderer at the end :-)
Granderer! I'll take that.🙂

Great video Sid! and what a beauty it is...I really like these sawara's and what you do with them of course. Thanks Sid, off to the next one! 💖👍😊💖🐾🐾
Thanks Karin. They are great trees to work with and this one in particular has cooperated well. Take care. Stay safe 🙂💕🐶
Hello my friend, a beautiful tree, really nice! And also a lot off branches! This bonsai takes a lot off work! ( Because with this number of branches) Good to see you doing wel.
Thanks Arnold. Glad you like it. Stay safe.
I’m not sure a tree can much better than that. Really nice!
Thank you. Once again proving you are not an idiot.😉
Stay safe.
Sid Pavey hey, you can have really good taste and still be an idiot. If you saw my wife, you’d understand.
Beautiful ! 🌲
Thank you. Stay safe
Really nice 👌
Thank you very much.

EPIC progress since the initial branch setting and pruning 5 years ago! Despite better back budding than most cypress, you have done this really well! It is not that easy for some ppl! Do you get many pests with this cypress? And any evergreen landscape trees nearby or in your garden? When is you next bench tour? And when should people look at treating vine weevil? Cheers! :)
Thanks for the kind words. This tree has been a pleasure to work with, no serious pests of note. No evergreen landscape trees in my garden no. I was looking to do a bench tour in winter in contrast to the last one which was done in summer. I treat for Vine Weevil spring and autumn using nematodes. Stay safe.
really nice
Thanks very much. Stay safe
A really great tree, a very good job on it.
It might benefit from a larger round or oval pot which could give it a more powerful look.
Thanks. Maybe I'll try something different at next repot, not round, I dont think that would work for me, but oval has possibilities. Stay safe
Lovely tree Sid. I have two small ones of this tree I didnt know what they were, but now I do and have an idea what to so with them. Looking forward to your next tour of your benches to see how everything is coming along! Keep safe.
I've been thinking I should do a winter tour as a contrast to the last one which was filmed in late May.

Beautiful tree Sid. As usual.
If I may make a suggestion, it would be most helpful to us newer to the hobby if you opened your videos with mentioning the date so we know the appropriate time of year to perform similar work. Thanks
Always welcome a suggestion Matt. Mentioning a date is something I sometimes do, sometimes don't. I make a point of dates when I do a time skip video or when I think it is particularly relevant. In general though videos are uploaded a few days after filming so dates published are a good indicator.
However a good time for me to work on a tree might not be the right time for someone in another part of the country or indeed world. Need to keep that in mind. And as I've said before. My videos are 'how I do bonsai', not necessarily 'how to do bonsai'. Lol
Stay safe.
Sid, do you bare root your nursery conifers when repotting?
@@mattbrennan647 No. In fact I've learned that that is a good way to lose a conifer quickly. I prefer to halve the rootball's height by half and plant in a larger container with a very gritty mix. You can add earthworms and the will help redistribute the nursery mix through out making the transitions less harmful for the trees. I just bought a couple of nursery cedars that I will do this with come autumn.
Stay safe
Looks nice Sid!
Thanks Kennet. Only thinking yesterday I hadn't heard or seen anything from you for a while. Had us worried. Hope you're ok.
Stay safe

@@KennetDeBondt good to hear.
Beautiful bonsai Sid. Question Even after pruning the Sawara it looks like it does not bud back. Is this a typical trait of the Sawara? Thanks
Sawara will backbud freely on areas with foliage and even get a little crowded and need thinning. They will also backbud on old wood sometimes though only on areas that get plenty of sun and even then not reliably. Better than most conifers which won't backbud on old wood at all.
Stay safe
