The engine seems fine after checking it out earlier today. The other turbo is whats smoking now, so that one is gonna get rebuilt too lol
Kinda surprised at the abuse this gen3 5.3 with ungapped rings and 300+* IAT's has taken lol
I was just about to ask about the iats on it. And I thought my 162° last run I made was too high. What kind of timing do you have in it up top at 23psi on that type of iat?
I've been a 10.4 so far In mine with only a 1.69 60ft but its heavy and 4wd. My goal is a 9.9 I'll get it before too long just trying to creep up on it.
@thatturbotruck I'll have to double check the log, but I'm pretty sure its at 11* at 23psi
So stupid question, are you covering your turbos when you towing to the track, I never used to and tore up a bunch of turbos that way.
@@SniderTron3000 damn I had 11° in mine at 20psi with a2a and 160° iats but I know that it's too low. I ran out of plugs to check when I upped it from 15-20psi so I dropped it down to 13 and my iat pulled 2 out when I passed 155°iat

You gotta get your Dad to be more Zen about sitting on that transbrake a while longer. But it's a blast watching the two of you making that thing faster and faster over the years. I think you finally met his expectations of how fast he always imagined it would be.
I mean, he was sitting on it plenty long enough. It has been building boost no problem in 5 seconds for the last few weeks while we tested things. But with the driver side turbo starting to chew the bearings and become hard to spin, I think that was making it harder and harder for it to build the boost. I'll get the turbo refreshed and we'll see if that is the issue

Truck 10 bolts have 30 spline axles. Axle seem pretty stout

That thing is moving out. We are having issues, also, with our turbo smoking on my sons 80 Trans Am, it is brand new, ugh. We are going to try a pump, see if that helps, car does have a lot of blow by. But, on a plus note, my 96 Camaro that is 5.3 swapped Gen 3 (rods and all) with GT45 Turbo ran a 9.9 last weekend on 15 lbs boost at 3600 lbs race weight.

He is leaving on boost on the 2 step. He was leaving on 8psi. Thats why he was double bulbing.
