It Ain’t Pretty… Can My $300 Mercedes Survive This?

- It's make or break time for my 2003 Mercedes W210 wagon I bought at a car auction. In this video, I'll remove the fender and headlight to reveal just how extensive the damage is. This is where you come in. Please comment on what I should do with the car. Can this damage be easily fixed? Should I go to a frame shop? Or is the damage so extensive that the Mercedes E320 wagon should be parted out? A huge thanks to the overseas viewers who are giving me some much advice on this Mercedes S210 rebuild!!

Fix it, fix it
yeah men
Yeah. A 25k for sure car
Fix it Mike. Just take your time. We will watch.
You can fix it Mike if you can’t the duck can!!
Hey randy
I bet Santa would agree Randy
Hahaha :))
Come on Mike. It isn't bad at all. This is what your channel is supposed to demonstrate. Your Subs learn watching your videos. Start the repairs and stop procrastinating...
Fix her Mike! We believe in you! You're the Mercedes guru! You definitely find the diamonds in the rough that are worth saving!
Fix it Mike! We believe in you
Get Mike from Santa's Workshop involved. I'm sure he could give you a helping hand!
Fix it, it is a beautiful car, you can do it! We will watch you! You need that car.
Here in Germany you don't find the S210 wagons in such a good condition anymore. Most of them are rusted away. From this point of view, I really would love to see you fixing it and bringing it back on the road.
Go for it Mike you got this
Mike, you should definitely try to fix it. You need to strip the other side down for a comparison. You've got the tools. At the end of the day it is just bent metal that needs straightening out. It can be done. I'm looking forward to the next instalment.
Beautiful car ! Fix but do it correctly. Pull off the broken parts to where all of them are removed and do a proper cut and replace of the unibody parts so that the next owner has a properly repaired car. These wagons are harder and harder to find in that condition. The dead mouse is gross and offensive a turn off in an otherwise great video
Yes👍🏻
Mike go for it do some diy and pull the frame great great content
I think you’re right, this car was saved from a pull-a-part yard where they put on a new side window and they didn’t clean very well the inside from the broken glass.
Anyway do some backyard engineering, pull it and hammer it back in shape and slap a "new" junkyard fender/hood/bumper/headlight on it.
That apron isn’t critical as a frame rail so I wouldn’t worry too much about it if I have to use the car myself. In case of selling just disclose the damage.
Get it pulled straight then do the rest, best option, lovely car.well worth saving
Definitely save, it’s way to nice of a car
If you want to keep the car then jerry rig a pull out of the damaged metal using an engine hoist, heat and a hammer to tap out the damaged metal while lifting that part upwards to a point the fender will sit correctly. It may also staighten the radiator support somewhat at the point the front fender attaches. It is an over all nice/cheap car and an A to B get parts with vehicle.
GitRdone Mikie . We love the professor .
Save it!!! It's a gem that needs to be saved!!
Mike'll fix it! He has to! It'd be a crime if you didn't. Its in such nice condition and it has has such a great spec and the colour is just gorgeous. Please repair this 210.
Please save her, and call her "Brunhilda !!!!!!!!!
From an old fan in Sunny London Town.
And tell Lola that Willow from London (born in County Kilkenny, Ireland) says !woof woof !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He sounds like Randy….” I don’t know if I’m going to keep this car or not”. Yeah….right!
NEEDS SAVING. Lucky no airbags went off Mike
Mike save the wagon. You have the power! Santa and Randy can help!
I reckon it's worth repairing the merc it's was cheep too buy and also it's in great condition go for it
I would seek the advice of Santa Mike!!!
Fix it! This is a no brainer for you, Mike!
You can fix it for sure! I definitely would if it were my car! Line up everything the best you can and go with it. I have done many over the years. Take your time and think it out. It can be done! Don't waste a nice car!
Mike... I've got an '05 W211 E320 wagon/estate too (the later version of your '02 W210). I spend too much to keep it on the road, but I took it to my son's destination wedding last summer as part of a 3,000 mile road trip. These are some of the very best cars ever built! You can do this, buddy. Good luck from a long time fan in Ottawa, Canada!
Fix it Mike! It's in great condition!
Mike you can’t make the car any worse attempting to fix it yourself. I respect that you’re considering giving it a go. It was already totaled and there’s well into the thousands in parts if you stripped and sold it off.
Before you buy any parts and possibly burn that cash I think you should take the bumper, pass headlamp and fender off then use the other side for symmetry to straighten the inner fender. If you can get it to measure up decently close to the other side, cut off and replace the upper radiator support and go from there.
IMHO I think she is worth saving, it looks lik3 a relatively easy fix! You cant beat that beautiful interior shes in really good shape!!.... name her Duklola. 😂😂... Stay Up Mr Goodwrench Mike.....🔥🔥🔥❤️👍🏽💯
I would say that minor damage
Get some prices for body pannels and for body shop to straiten the fender arch
Then send car to Randys paint shop Maco
Keep the car its worth fixing it and once fixed and you want to sell it im sure you will make a profit
You can do it
We are your biggest fans
Love the sounds affect! 😂
Save. Not sure whether its practical for you to do so, but what would be personally gratifying for me would be to see you cut, or have someone cut that whole inner section off a junkyard wagon. You could then, in theory, drill out all the weld points of the damaged section on this wagon, extract the entire section and attempt to spot weld its replacement to the appropriate bits. Probably asking a bit much there. Get a replacement fender and other bits. Have MAACO or someone equally cheap paint the replacement fender to match.
Mike, Mike, Mike. In the 80s in high school I pulled my frame rail straight using a manual winch from harbor freight and a cable wrapped around the column between my mom's garage doors! She's already got a salvage title so the boneyard is just going to rob you for it anyway. So fix her up. Also, I have a 96 E320 diesel in the fleet with 226k she's like a comfortable old pair of shoes but gets 34mpg and 700 miles per tank. And her name is BERTA. I leave her sitting for 6 months on a battery tender and she always fires up. Berta is an even better moniker for your pretty lady there! Being a big girl ya know. Cheers and thanks for your videos: entertaining, interesting and educational! We appreciate you!🙂 -John
Absolutely worth saving!! Just sit down, take a deep breath and I know you’ll figure out how to pull out the crinkled parts. You got this Mike! I had a very similar problem on my SLK230
Definitely fix it. Would love to have one in as nice of condition as yours.
Worth putting time into it.. Do not be in a big rush to get it done. Take time do it right.
Even if the damages too much you could strip it for parts and make your money back you would easily double your money on the parts for the interior but if you can fix it cheap enough to put it back on the road it'll be a lovely car and you could call it scrappy which I think would be a good name for this vehicle thank you from classical bikes
Fix it Mike, take it apart more to fix the structure
Keep up the great work Mike we love to see it!
SAVE ! You have the skills and the now how. Just Do It !
11:42 waw mike i noticed that your accent changed right there man lol 😂✨👌✨👌✨👍👍
Would love to see you or a frame shop only pull out and straighten the damage and you put it all back together. The color combo is fantastic. Remember to check the coolant and oil level Mike.
You got this Mike fix that damn thing.
I personally use Son of a gun protectant and Meguiars is wonderful, I will never use Armor All ever again after what it did to the leather in my Cadillac Good Job Mike 👍
Mike. Your edits are getting so much better. Speeding up some of the process of dismantled items has increased the watchability. Keeps folks watching without losing interest so fast. Love this build. Nice car. Cheers my friend. Save it. Let's call it MOM / everyone loves mom . She's gracious and beautiful
Mike - fix it the best you can and keep it until it doesn’t run anymore. 😊
This one is a save. The car is in great shape.
You can do this Mike
Mike…. Fit it. If a guy with no bodywork back ground can do it then there is hope for us all. Just do your best. If you have an issue, maybe contact 23 garage for a collaboration. That might be pretty cool. Yuri is amazing on that frame machine. You and Randy can do a road trip. Something to think about
Definitely fix it. Its 100 times better than that Volvo. This one is worth the sweat
Always took mine 2 a well known local body shop with the new parts 2 be fitted , usually wasn’t over few hundred 2R3 👍the proper alignment was worth it 😊
Full send! Slap that back into shape!
My wife and I say both FIX IT!!! Save the girl. 2 votes here!!!!
Yes Mike, Please Fix This Mercedes Benz Wagon, What A Cherry, Rare Unit..
I say, "Fix it yourself." It doesn't look that bad - especially if you have the tools and you will keep it as a utility vehicle. I think you have a winner if you fix it.
I think you have the ability and patience to fix it and you could ask Santa for pointers and possibly some help along the way!
Save the car Mike! I think you could call the car for Silversurfer!!!😊
Mike if you have the tools it costs nothing to try. Just a little time. Plus if you do get it fixed what a super nice car.
Fix it! Maybe find an inner fender section from a yard. Santa might be up for a trip to see you and spot it back in, or you can buy the pinch welder from HF for those front spots to the core support if everything else is bolt-on.
Poor man’s Frame Machine (tree, 4x4 post against the bumper support, and heavy duty ratchet strap, LOL) should be a quick fix!!!
Definitely fix this e320 wagon. It is worth it. From the sounds you were making, you have a porta power. That will make things work great. Move those 2 reservoirs to one side then remove the front wheel so you can see better. Then start using the porta power to straighten.
Well worth fixing. I’d take it to a body shop and get the frame straightened then bring it back home and start replacing what you need to replace. You want the frame to be in specs as a major safety issue in case if another collision
I love the old Mercedes interior.
I think you should take a shot at fixing it ! You have nothing to loose ! I think it will offer plenty of views of you repairing it. It does not need to be perfect on that corner ! The rest of the car appears well taken care of and in excellent shape ! For the replacement cover and metal pieces you should have an abundance of supply parts . paint will be the only real cost to another if you can't do that ! But you may also be able to hone your skills in that department as well ! You have nothing to loose ! Go for it ! I would enjoy seeing this rebuild ! Santa maybe able to do the paint also ??? Have A great week ! God Bless !
Attach a jump box, or battery charger, to the jump points under the hood and you should be able to remove the battery without losing the radio code.
Good idea
Fix it Mike, good experience and content
She’s a beauty! Save her!!
Mike you really do the best videos. This was has got me like the wonder wagon.
Save it. Just take your time, and you can get it. I think the bare wire you were showing would be for the side makrker light. I think you showed that you have the lens for it in the first video. Great video!
Fix it for Mike to use....can it tow anything?
It would be the perfect Bronze Beauty for Mike to use.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mike you can do it 💪
You can fix it … take time for it and show us.
Best wishes from Austria 🇦🇹
Austria!! Very cool!!
If you are afraid the car has suspension damage that wouldn’t let it align I would take it to a shop for a front end alignment first. If that is OK you can move on to fixing it. Next, find one like it at the pull a part and take all the measurements you can from it. Document them all on paper and with pictures. Use a floor jack, wood, your portapower, etc. to get it as close as you can to the measurements you took. If things are not close enough to work go back and cut the section you need from the other car. Remove what is needed to make yours right. You are going to need a welder, but you really need one anyway. Once you have a welder you will find all sorts of uses for it. Tack in the parts you need and check your measurements. Take a replacement fender and check the fit. Once it is all good weld things in permanently and you are good. I recently repaired a 2000 Silverado with suspension mount damage in the same way. It drives perfectly now and all the hard work was worth it. You can get several good videos from this project, and you know we will all watch it. If I can be of any help please reach out.
I would try Mike, it would make great content. And if it don’t work out, you’ll get your 300 back
You can save this car Mike! Benzo is supporting his Benz Vibe. Bone yard search for a hood, fender, door needed underpinnings ... and Gopher-it!
I think it is definitely worth saving--not many of the W210 wagons are left in that condition and that would be great content.
Save it I think you can fix it it won’t be perfect but you always do a good job. I’ve purchased 2 totaled vehicles from auction and I fixed both as a hobby and still drive one daily
From the looks of the damage, I think the car ran up under something (probably a jacked up pickup, lol) and caused the damage to go downwards at about a 4 o'clock to "half past 4" direction as you're looking at it from the driver's side. It's very similar to a tectonic plate diagram at a fault line where one plate submerges beneath another. You just happened to buy the "submissive plate." To pull the body back out, I suggest to go *upwards* to between 10 and 11 o'clock.
Mike fix it man we the viewers know your more than capable man so with that said pls get it done we the viewers want to see you get it done man its interesting its conrent and its gonna be worth the time fella just take your time man pls we will watch like share and definitely watch every step of it id source the parts from salvage if you can im sure that's definitely possible if in colour much better we with you mike, oh by the way was watching you and randy's power tour vids on A,A,R shame that the transmission failed on the SS man but both of you appeared to be in good spirits despite what happened man, good luck with this car mike big thumbs up fella from north waled Uk!.. ✨👌✨👌✨👍👍👍
Mikey, you said you can use a jack to push the connecting corner of the fender and radiator support ( 12:30 ), I think it won't work !
Instead, I think it would be better if you drill a hole, insert with screws and pull it upwards and try to reinstate the original shape as much as you can OR take it to body shop and let them pull it out for you ..... Just a small suggestion.
Save! Start by getting the parts that are damaged, hood, fender, headlight...etc. Then take it to a body shop to get the frame repaired and install the parts you purchased. Good Luck. I don't give my cars names so I am not going to suggest one.
Make sure you decide on if you want to take it to the body shop before messing with it.
I heard advice from a good body guy before and he said he hates it when people try to mess with the damage before giving it to him to work on since he can't see how the damage occurred to undo it.
I say you bend that support up out of the way and take her for a spin around the block, if she runs good, she's a keeper! And name her Jamie, cuz you have the technology and you can rebuild her! If you know, you know!
Loving the content, Mike! Love it. Love it. Love it!
Well worth saving
Hi Mike, nice video. I say to keep the wagon and fix it up best you can, just take your time and it should turn out fine. I love the color on this wagon and the interior looks to be in great shape. Names are maybe, The silver bullet, or I thought it kind of has a gold tinge so I thought Goldie would be a good name or the silver goose, just throwing out idea's here. I'm sure someone or you will come up with the perfect name. 😀✌❤
I vote to save “The Professor”
Ronald Finger has a video covering how he DIYed similar damage on a salvage Tiburon.
Hook up a come-along to a pillar or post and pull out that core support and inner apron.
Absolutely fix that. Definitely worth fixing
Try to get a body service manual that has the measurements of the underhood area. Those holes are for a tram gauge to measure square. If you have any side sway, yo7 will probably need a pro. Santa may be a good helper on this project. Also, Blue Collar Kyle has good videos. Good luck!
Fix it. Get an appraisal at a couple local body shops.
Maybe Santa could help you with this or you could find another RUclipsr who does frame work and would like to work with you on a collab?
Just a few suggestions.
I just love this car. Fixing mechanical is one thing, body work is a different ball game altogether. With DIY you may not achieve the perfect job the car deserves.
Save it. The good points out way the damage. Name her "the Professor". 🎉
Fix it it's not a hard fix you can do mike just take your time with it and at the end of the day you will have a great little wagon.
You need to see the whole picture Mike, strip down the whole corner to assess the damage. From what I can see it looks a lot worse than it actually is, just take your
time and don't guess, do a lot of measuring, compare measurements with the good side and from corner to corner. I firmly believe you are capable of getting a good result. Also think about
the experience you can gain by attempting something that's out of your wheelhouse. Laters chuckles. Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Keep the jumper pack connected when taking the battery off to replace it. Or put a temporary junker
Benzo's opinion: It's quacked!
I quack myself up.
