    13:00 the leagues mean very little, there is no punishment for losing games. Getting into higher leagues is abour farming points for wins and draws. If you win 40 games and lose 60, you're doing better, than somebody who won 30 and lost 10.

    I never know if I'm better or worse than him. He does all kinds of stuff that I don't understand and most of the time, the way I was thinking would have been better. But I don't know if he's just playing 4 steps ahead and I'm stuck in the present.

      @@johnnymetonymic If you don't play chess, the most likely scenario is that he's thinking further ahead than you :D You should try playing! But trying to figure out why his moves make sense (or don't make sense) is also good practice. I find myself pausing and pondering why he didn't make my "obvious" move, and often realize it's because my obvious move has an obvious response from the opponent that would blow it out.
      "Obvious" is relative to your Elo rating, basically -- grandmasters see a weird pawn move as obvious because they can play it through mentally and see that it wins them the endgame, whereas taking a free queen isn't always obvious to someone who just learned the rules.

    27:40 why wouldn't you just take with the bishop? Then they can't take it without trading their rook for it. If they don't you're up a pawn, if they do you're up a rook for a bishop. Instead you took with the rook and let them just trade rooks.

      After the bishop takes the rook it is soft pinned by blacks rook. Maybe this is whst NL considered

    41:43 The funny thing is that NL was totally outplaying that guy right until he straight-up hung a knight in one move. If anything, he demonstrated poor understanding by making his light squares very weak around his king, exposing himself to a big attack. He definitely wasn't underrated lol. NL just needs to learn to stop blundering pieces.

    I don't know what NL has against increment but he needs the extra time to be entertaining and seeing 50% of the games end in premoves is not fun. Please try playing real chess at least once.
