Me too man, I don't play chess much so I can't really point out mistakes often but like 3-4 times this video I paused and went "but... why didn't he just take X it's completely free" I'm pretty sure that game that one rook was hung out to dry like 3 times and it blew me away
@@diablofrag2177 It's different when you are the one playing, esp. with short time controls. Often times I see the move a millisecond AFTER I do the dumb move lol. I not long ago hung a queen to pawn too like he did in the first game lol.....makes you feel real special :( That is why many of the chess coaches say when you are new start with something like a 15+10 time control. I've noticed that if I hadn't played in awhile, or even just the first couple of games of the day, I tend to do the dumb blunders. When I settle down I start winning and taking advantage of their blunders instead of doing my own.
At 41:13 the engine has NL up by 13 points, and the "best" move for Black is to sacrifice the queen on d8. h6 actually has a forced mate in 3 moves: Qxh6 gxh6 Rxh6 and there's nothing Black can do to stop Rh8#. Bxg7 is also forced mate in 5 moves. After NL's move, 19.Rxh6, the best case for Black is still forced mate in 4. Good job NL, that was a brilliant game :O
Its funny how the endgame at 21:30 is completely drawn and he only won because his opponent misplayed at the end, yet he says he knows his endgames from childhood at 21:50 lol
3:05 NL: Hangs queen Opponent: Doesn't take it Me: Pauses video, scratches head, thinks I'm going mad, missing the tactical reason why the queen can't be taken Me: Restarts video 3:19 ....
Actually insane that the man Dan got 12th in a tourney with 1200 players and NL got 22nd in a game with 500... Just goes to show that you can never judge a book by its cover. Still, excellent work from both of you!
21:30 "I've trained for this", NL says not realizing black already has forced draw. As he's saying it, black blunders and it's no longer stalemate, but what's his next move? He immediately blunders and goes back to a drawn position. "I have trained for this", he reassures us (or himself) again, not realizing his chance is already wasted and the position is drawn again. Then black gifts him the game at the very last moment and NL's all proud of his endgame skills. Just look at his smug face expression and voice at 22:00
well he did realise he made a mistake when the opponent blundered and he didn't take the opposition. It's just the time pressure probably. What i really don't get is how a 1500 rated player doesnt know how to draw in that position.
NL, it's not that you NEVER play Bc4 in the Sicilian Defence, it's just that you USUALLY don't play it if black is likely to push d5. There are a ton of variations where Bc4 is the right move, but Bb5 is more common
At 22:00 all his opponent had to do was remain in contact with the pawn it's only not a draw if you can walk the pawn, by shouldering the king. At gm level they'd accept a draw
What I learned in today’s chess lesson 1) every other piece > knight 2) never play Bc4 in the Sicilian (idk why) 3) when you blunder, make a gambit out of it 4) win before the time runs out
At 39:49 Ryan is about my level but IMHO this queenside castle is a repeating blunder in positions like this. Opponent already has pawns on b5 and c5, and pushing those pawns is a forcing move as well. Ryan's king side pawns have not moved yet. There are no open files this time. Earlier in arena he castles queenside when opponent has an open b file. But in this particular game it's because the exchange Bb5, a6, Ba4, b5.. I play this sequence in the Ruy Lopez but I always castle kingside after that sequence because I have helped my opponent get his pawn to b5. Queenside castle is cool in general but the question is who is going to be attacking who?
In the game vs theBlitz you missed a fork with your knight. King, rook and queen a 3 way. You moved the knight away from the fork. You did win the game. But the fork would have been so good. Especially a really early fork.
Hey bro I've gotten into the routine of watching your chess videos in bed and drifting off to them but now I've seen them all so I need you to start uploading them daily. Thanks boss xoxo yours truly
Hey man, just saying it's not right that you don't play Bc4 in the sicilian. You can definetly play it, but usually only after playing d4 and opening up the center. In some e6 before d6 Sicilians (Kan, for example), you mostly develop the B to d3. :)
Don't worry about bishops advantage over knights. At this elo, especially with 2 minutes on the clock you'll probably have more success with knights than bishops.
This is a masterclass proof that NL is twelve times better at chess when he plays quickly - given five seconds, NL is 1800 versus other people at five seconds. Given two minutes, he's 1500. He should try playing a bit more bullet, it's already quite pog.
I just prefer watching slower games honestly. I like the commentary between moves and hearing about the building complexity of different lines and strategies. But yes, for all the crap nl gets about his gaming abilities, he doesn't get nearly enough praise for how lightning fast his brain works. From isaac to chess all the while he's able to add non-stop entertaining banter, mighty impressive.
except he is not? and you clearly either don't understand the rating system or chess or both making that statement. or just don't actually watch the videos
From the game at 22:30 it’s clear that NL doesn’t know how to play against those kings Indian / dragon setups. You need to look to trade their dark square bishop as soon as possible with be3 and qd2 like you played but then try to get bh6 in there, and launch a big kingside attack with h4 h5. This would at least give you a basic plan for those positions in future.
Fell a bit behind with the chess content because I live in Texas and paying for weatherproofed energy grids was not in the agenda apparently, glad there is some to see now that I’m not a popsicle with no water or power.
You should play Bc4 in the sicilian, especially at your ELO it would be very effective. There is literally nothing bad about it and Bobby Fischer made a career out of playing it.
