What i know for sure is it's definitely overrated for its after sales network and maintenance cost.
160kmph with 4 passengers in AMEO feels rock solid (done it on 300+km journey). Do it in others you will feel fear at 120kmph :D

Any day I would go with VW Ameo. My first car and I am pretty happy with it. The handling is awwesome even at 140+, it feels like you are in total command. One may argue that it has a high maintenance and the point is agreed; however, to own something special I would negate the maintenance cost. Choice is simply made for safety and build quality it comes with. Simply no match!

All German cars come at a high price and in India where we don't have roads to drive, the cost we pay is too high. Dzire is a fit for India but vw is a better car on paper

See the NVH level of a fiat sourced Diesel engine from Suzuki, thats speaks how well Suzuki does make cars.
Aditya Mohan nvh is under control, but dzire seriously lags power now. They need a bigger engine. Small engine, less power, light body = great mileage

Before buying Ameo, I did test drive of Amaze, Tigor, Aspire and even Honda City.
Didn't even turn towards Maruti showroom because Aspire had set the standard high. Only Ameo was able to go beyond that.

Dzire is best for mileage, low maintenance and resale value.
Amaze is best for comfort.
Ameo is best for safety.
I was never a fan of CVT and always disliked it. But, this evening I test drove Amaze diesel CVT and am blown by its seemless acceleration. The speedometer just kept climbing and I found none of that lag I found in Baleno CVT and Micra CVT. Upto 100 kph, I didn't find any rubber-band effect. May be it comes into play at higher speeds. Its engine has only 80 BHP. Goes to show that you should never go by specifications on paper. On paper it is under-powered but in reality it's fantastic. Anyone buying Ameo / Dzire should at least take a test drive of Amaze. Now I wish all diesel SUVs came with CVT. May be CVT doesn't work well on small petrol cars.

Ameo, with its rear space, poor after sales network and maintenance cost is clearly losing out to Amaze. Checked into Dzire top model in the showroom and was shocked by poor quality materials both inside and out. the metals apparently very thin, and boot door inside wasn't covered with lots of wires going around. Any sharp object in the boot can damage the wires easily. I don't understand on what basis people go for this swift or dzire.
It's an insult to ameo to compare it with these cars ....vw rocks...

Vw ameo dsg is the best car in its class. If u want a drivers car to take those corners u should close ur eyes and go for ameo , if u need a allrounder amaze it is but then kind of sad dat u dont get cvt with all bells and whistles!

But engine, technology there is no compare of vw with any car in India, I am owner of Ameo after using one year I am very satisfied, it's not my first car but as my personal experience ( my own as i m female driver) up to 600 km without Breck ,if you drive it 1% b thakan nai lagti, total consume time is less than 1&1/5 hour less for 650 km. Driver seats are so nice and different.
If you drive it 100+ to 180+ there is no vibration, Ameo also going 220 km/hour speed
Build quality is so strong
In accident condition there are more chance to save driver
Simple and decent car

Ameo is the best compact sedan in India. Rocket in this segment. Way better than dezire.

vw ameo dsg is best ..if they talk about overtaking lag .. should have tried S mode .. ameo is best solid aven after 150s .. dzire and amze are nowhere near it

dsg though is world class . but it breaks down and is highly unreliable , the replacement is super expensive..
Ameo came 2nd place because it is heavier than other 2 cars. Ameo is the safest , powerful, 2nd safest is Amaze and 3rd is the tin car.
Ameo comes with powerful engine and very good gearbox but very less space inside and look is not good and model would be stopped 2020.
Swift/Swift DZire carries very old engine and AMT gear shift is very slow and model inspired by tin can. Always safety should come first, not the mileage.
I opted for Amaze, because it comes with CVT, the smoothest transmission in the market. Car is more spacious, A.S.S is good. Only issue is ground clearance is low when 4 to 5 ppl travels.
My lovely amaze. It is such a brilliant machine! It completely changed my perspective of automatic cars....
Woah!!! I have been waiting for this review for such a long time. I really liked the design of the Dzire when it was launched, but when I saw it in skin, it looked rather bland and too curvy to me. Even the Ameo looks better and more dynamic than the Dzire, given that the Ameo hasn't received an update yet. Honda have apparently done a great job with the new Amaze.
I would, however, like to suggest that you guys do a shootout of all the compact sedans in the market. We have quite a lot of them now. Tata has two entrants in the segment in Tigor and Zest, the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, VW Ameo, Ford Aspire and let's not forget the two cars that ushered in this segment, the Tata Indigo eCS and the Mahindra Verito Vibe. That is 9 cars in the segment with 6 fighting holding the bastions of their manufacturers in the market. That is one competitive segment! No one believed it would be so when the Indigo CS/eCS was launched. But the launch of the Swift Dzire as a compact sedan took the whole Indian Auto market on a roller coaster ride. I do not have the data, but I strongly believe that this segment must have almost closed in on the hatchback market . This leaves the potential customer with far far too many choices than one needs. A good in-depth shootout of all the competitors would be really great to evaluate the market and select the one that fits one's needs the best.

DSG doesn’t require paddle shifts it’s already a lightning quick shifts

I own an amaze petrol vcvt. Just completed 2nd Service. It has right front wheel suspension issue. As per the dealer it’s a manufacturing defect. Makes a thup thup sound.
Front suspension is sub-standard.
Problem surfacing in many more amaze cars as per dealers.
Raised it as an issue. Still dealer or Honda not bothering to recall the cars to fix the issue.
Think twice b4 investing in the new amaze.
Amaze looks like a proper sedan with killer looks. Dzire and ameo nowhere near the Honda in looks.
Just hold on to looks.

purely by sales number Dzire s the best, but the Amaze is a very good all rounder of a car, though build quality & German engineering can't be overlooked either!!

VW ameo is best quality car and strong build.. but in each service we have to spend more money... service cost of VW products r very high......
Ameo is a high maintenance car because of its dual clutch transmission system. But it has a much better response in highways when compared to Honda's CVT. But CVT offers better fuel efficiency and smoothest driving experience when compared to DSG. Whatever you choose, just don't go for single clutch AMTs as you see in Dzire. They are just not worth the money you are paying for an automatic gearbox. Paying more than rs 5 lakhs for AMTs is just not worth it.

A few comments:
Living in the U.S. I will never see these any of these cars, but I was intrigued by the test.
On looks...well, the Maruti has a decent interior, but the instrument cluster looks like came from a tractor or a truck, not very attractive to look at. I actually liked the VW the best, inside and out. Honda is currently decorating every vehicle they build with a strip of chrome(?) running across the top of the grille opening, and while I have owned 4 Honda cars, I don't care for the look of the current cars.
And since performance is important, the VW would also earn it's vote there. I didn't stay with this video to it's conclusion so I don't know which of these 3 is the most economical to own, it's probably a toss-up between the VW and Honda mainly due to their gearboxes. But in the final analysis my choice would depend on which brand had a dealer nearby, and the reputation of that dealer.
Don't know about the US but here, VW's service is almost twice as expensive as Honda or Maruti that's why German market is not great here. Also, VW DSG unit is a hit or miss in our Hot climate, many are happy but those whos gearbox had issues, had to face very costly repairs up to 10% of the cost of the car. Honda actually matches the performance in real-world with CVT diesel combo somehow that's why Amaze is their most selling car here. Still, the Dzire is most selling in this segment and VW is the least. Indians give more importance to rear seat space and after sales service than outright performance so you will see many stretched cars here. Your T-cross is coming as Taigun here which will have longer wheelbase here (rear seat space)
Also, you never see these cars because sub 4m segment is only here in India as there is more tax to pay if you purchase a 4m+ car here so all companies made India specific sedans like these just at 3998-3999mm to benefit from less tax. We also have many great sub 4m SUVs here, you will not see them in any other market

These days Amaze is offered with Diesel CVT on the top-spec(VX CVT).

Ameo can easily do 190 plus on high without any shake. It’s perfect drivers car. I love it. Honda and Maruti cannot even compare with this German car. If I own vw you will always choose vw because of safety and comfort. People are not idiots to believe you stupid
Nikhil R all VW cars are one step above the rest..but their servicing reliability is 3 steps down from the rest...owning car means not just driving but it's a whole package of hassle free service, reliable ..VW cars lacks in this department...that's why people line up and buy a Honda City /Ciaz when VW VENTO DSG is the best car in that segment.

If you want good performance then go for 1.2 L petrol version or you need good mileage buy 1.0 L petrol version

Ford aspire is good ...in terms of performance safety ..and low service charge...sales of ameo is declining...
