Ya well the geography matters not anymore. Everything is copied now so..When a person calls a website in NY the data comes from NC, not SJ. There is more going on in Jackson Wyoming now than San Jose. Switzerland is a hot bed for the Oligarchs... St Moritz. San Jose was important because it has Stanford. Access to big phone networks etc. While still important less so especially with 5g.

I still laugh when there's a story about how brilliant Jeff Bezos was/is. That he alone saw the ecommerce future of the Internet. Course you are never told he basically is what he is because he supplies the backbone for most of the shady datamining going on whenever you turn on your devices. BTW attempts to foil all that is also a signal. One which as you can imagine gets you put onto lists you probably would not volunteer to be on.
