What a good video. No talking, no bullshit. Just cooking, clear instructions , beautifully shot. Only if all the other cooking videos were made this way!
Made two shepherds pies today (6-28-21) for feeding a group of men at a homeless shelter. Basically made 1 1/2 recipes for each pie, enough to properly fill a 13 x 9 x 3 baking dish. Used hamburger (minced beef) instead of lamb, which is expensive here in the States. The result was delicious and well received by the men at the homeless shelter. I baked 4 batards of French bread which seemed to be the perfect pairing with the shepherds pie. Thanks for posting. Darlington, South Carolina USA
I’m so glad you have such a humane homeless shelter. Thank you for caring for the Little One’s. May they be restored to homes. 🏡 In our province we don’t serve meals or food in our homeless shelters. It’s cruel and cold. We need a sea change here. 😢
Today was my first attempt too. I love this video. Simple, clear and you don't have to hear too much talking. In fact, no talking is involved. Just straight to the point. This person did a good job. I wish more cooking videos was like this.
My first time too, but I'm 58 years old! Made one alteration. My Mom's Sheperds Pie had three layers, the middle layer was mashed turnip and carrot (nothing added), so I did that. But her first layer was ground leftover roast lamb with the leftover gravy.
FYI make sure to warm up milk, butter or cream before adding to mashed potatoes. It makes a big difference! I also added smashed roasted garlic to mash potatoes. It turned out delicious 😋 if you have weistershire sauce add few drops to meat mixture!
No, if making shepherd's / cottage pie, never, ever, add milk, cream or butter to the mashed potatoes. It makes it too soft and the meat mixture mixes with the potatoes. Just mash the potatoes with salt, and leave it at that. Adding butter, cream, milk, etc to mashed potatoes is only for when you want to serve the potatoes as a side dish.
I made this (a 11 year old) with a little bit of help from my mum(the boiling) but did the rest myself and this turned out to be the best dish ever!Thank you ;)

TCF: I've been a well-seasoned southern home cook for over 40 years. In all that time, I've never tried my hand at the dish I've always enjoyed by other's hands; Cottage Pie (so-called with hamburger instead of lamb). Tonight, I took a chance and dove head-first into your recipe. I had to make a couple of adjustments only because of the need for a bit larger quantity for more people, and also the use of frozen mixed vegetables that included the peas, carrots, green beans and lima beans. I used dried rosemary and thyme because I knew I'd only have to throw out a lot of the extra and you know that, unless you grow your own herbs, they are expensive. It was absolutely delicious! Yours is the one I chose over all the Food Network's and YT's offerings, and I'm very happy that I did. (There're some crazy deviant recipes out there, lol) One other note I wish to share: I live in a med-size city, and there was only one restaurant in total that had this dish on their menu, and, although it was a chain, it tasted like crap. They've recently closed, so I decided to give it a go. I'm so glad I did. Be very proud, TCF. I'll probably never try it with lamb, as it is very hard to find in my neck of the woods (N FL), and very expensive at that. But I am very satisfied with it using ground beef. Thank you again and God bless!

So, after making this about 5 times or more now, and gifting an entire tray to family, I can say that this recipe is LEGIT. I did make some small changes to it - 1 Bay Leaf, 1TBSP ground Coriander, 1/2 TSP paprika, a splash of Worcestershire sauce and instead of using 2 cups of beef broth, I just used 1 1/2. It's the ultimate comfort food in my book. simple and no frills. Plus, the video was ON POINT. No talking, nothing lengthy. Just cooking. I buy my aluminum tray from Walmart - 13 x 9. I made Shepards pie for the first time today and it was absolutely yummilocious!!! I didn’t had lamb so instead substituted with corned beef and also instead of grated cheddar cheese, I used spreadable Kraft cheddar cheese. It was easy to mash the potatoes with! Also the top of the potatoes browned beautifully and it was also a bit crispy…. Just right! My husband and I had thirds and it was so so scrumptious. 😋 It was definitely best served piping hot straight from the oven! Oh and btw, I used a microwave as my oven as its not connected yet. Used grill function on a grill for 20 mins. Thank you very much for the wonderful recipe 😊🎉
Amazing how a man can cook something with so much love and affection. This video is contagious; right from the music to the effortless and non-hasty way of delivering the recipe. Kudos also to the video editor. On the whole, a great job. Well done mate.
You only REALLY need the initial cuts, the angled cuts they added are unnecessary. I used to cut ONIONS like that too, but then watched an actual CHEF explain why you cut one way and another and realized that the initial parallel cuts are key... then you just choose how thin you want your pieces.

I watched this video more frequently to make Sherpard's pie twice and I'm so happy to know i've made a good recipe for me and my mum. Thank you so much for this video 😁❤
I was looking for a Shepherds pie recipe, and this one will do me nicely and the 1st one I clicked on to. I like to see the ingredients listed one by one and not done in running writing style like a dogs breakfast and easy to follow. I like the follow the ingredients while following the recipe. If channels don't list their ingredients then I'm not interested in wasting my time on their video. Thank you for the recipe.
Looks delicious! I make cottage pie because my dh doesn't like lamb. And he doesn't care for a lot of seasonings so I keep it simple: onion, garlic, salt, pepper and some A1 thick and hearty steak sauce. I also don't peel my potatoes because I want all the nutrition that the peels have. I dice the potatoes small. That shortens the cooking time and makes the peels smaller. I put a lot of salt in the water to season the potatoes (1-2 tablespoon depending on the number of potatoes). Then I drain the pot and put my butter in the pot of potatoes to melt and then mash. Then I fold in sour cream. I usually use the same pan (cast iron) that I cook my hamburger and peas and carrots (I use a bag of frozen peas and carrots) in and top with the mashed potatoes and then pop in the oven to bake until the potatoes are brown.
Looks yum. just made it but switched it up a little. I didnt include the egg. i put a layer of cheese on top off the meat before the mash. And added green Chillies for an extra kick. Turned out great. Uv a new sub here.
Thank you for this lovely recipe, love how you’ve put in the ingredients in metric. I’m an Aussie so don’t understand any other. I have always known it as Shepard’s Pie, plus have used minced beef. Never thought of using herbs before, will certainly try this recipe. Have also subscribed. So keep up the great work and thanks again. 👍🇦🇺

Tried the basics today, used frozen mixed veggies and instant potatoes, still yummy and needed cook time and temp, this is soo helpful!!!👍
Amazing how a man can cook something with so much love and affection. This video is contagious; right from the music to the effortless and non-hasty way of delivering the recipe. Kudos also to the video editor. On the whole, a great job. Well done mate.
I just saw, after all these years, how to properly dice an onion.
Lee48Lee I am feel the same way.
Me too haha.easier to dice this way
Well I bought this little manual mechine that decided my onions and no tears
You only REALLY need the initial cuts, the angled cuts they added are unnecessary. I used to cut ONIONS like that too, but then watched an actual CHEF explain why you cut one way and another and realized that the initial parallel cuts are key... then you just choose how thin you want your pieces.
We prepare this since I was very young ! Our kitchen is very healthy and diversified ! Many civilisations stayed in my love Algier’s and our Méditerranée food is one of the healthy and the best in the world ! Algerois from Québec Canada 🇨🇦 !

You can't go wrong with a good home food like Shepard's pie.
Tried this yesterday. I must say it was GORGEOUS!!💜💜 thanks so much!!!
So the shepherd's pie looking amazing but that music is LIT 🔥🔥🔥
My Son and his family loved the Shepard’s pie!!! It was sooooooo good. Thanks so much.
Look in the description box for the recipe
This is best shepherd's pie video I have ever seen.
Where is the creamed corn? This gives it a kind of sweet flavor.
Love the way you cook, love the music , thumbs up.
Thanks 😊
I can live on these wonderful. tasty pies
What's the name of the music please
I made it first time today and my daughter absolutely love it 😀. Thank you 👍

I've been cooking this recipe 5 times right now. It's Delicious , my family loves it😄👍
I love this Shepherds Pie. I’ll try it. I made my own too. Thanks for sharing.
Me too fabiola, hello how are you doing today hope all is well with you?
I usually use the same pan (cast iron) that I cook my hamburger and peas and carrots (I use a bag of frozen peas and carrots) in and top with the mashed potatoes and then pop in the oven to bake until the potatoes are brown.
wow i cooked this for boss Israeli and french boss, amazing! they finished the in tray! just omitted the dairy but still amazing! thank you!
Thank you for not having horrible cringey music with your recipe.
this is sarcastic, right?
Looks yum. just made it but switched it up a little.
Never used herbs, spoken like a true Aussie- the home of bland food
how rude and xenophobic of you @Roxann Webbe.
Should I make similar aspersion on you my black little friend - I think you eating Whitchetty Grubs sounds bland to me
Lamb = Shepherds pie
Beef = Cottage pie
Perfect video for cooking to, makes it look so quick and easy but I started cooking it at half 5 and just waiting for it to come out the oven now, can’t wait (it’s now 10:30pm)
That’s a long time
