“I’m not a drummer. You get what you get for this, okay?” 😂 passing this along to our guys! Great vid, bro!
I am sharing this with our Worship team now. Thanks Ryland.
Double-patch snare top and kick channel👌 plus a stereo parallel group with only skins.
I currently only have a single kick mic. Audix D6 pushed in a little.
I only like triggers for gate side-chains, but samples mostly unnecessary unless there is VERY high level programming needed; such as, an artist and song to song changes. Currently not using any triggers at Henderson Hills.
you're a beast
Cool and thanks as usual for your ministry! We do the same thing with a mixture of Sebas and Ish kick, snare and toms, all using the Roland TM6. We blend the samples with our overhead and ‘crotch’ mics. We do have a second snare for simple acoustic shuffles and other stylistic playing. You mentioned a Bome?? I can’t find a link to it below.
Bome Midi Translator
We have a similar setup for our broadcast mix. The only issue we have is the snare doesn’t trigger every time. So we have some trouble shooting to do
I've had a similar experience. Have yet to find setting that work well. I found that it only worked well when deliberately making sure to not get any rim in the snare hit.
We tried running both Kick and Snare with the Roland TM-1. Worked fine but we ended up sticking with only the snare. I also had to time align mics to match the latency of the samples. Once it’s aligned it’s really good but that’s something to watch out for.
YES! I had to add 10ms delay to live. Good reminder.
How do you guys run open drums in smaller church building without sound issues?
Good question, our room is pretty treated, we use heartbeat dry cymbals, our players don't go crazy.
Is your house mix stereo?
Nope Mono… for now 😎
Been thinking about doing something like this, but worried it's going to sound unnatural, especially the ghost notes.
Ya, it's a tough balance with thresholds etc. Also depends on the player. Some guys leave the stick on the snare and ghost note a lot and others don't. I'd record it a few weeks while adjusting, but just don't put it in the house. Go back and listen to the multitracks.
Why are you not using EZ Drummer samples ? Ez drummer sound so good
Well I don’t have EZ drummer. I have Steven slate and might try out using trigger in post.
