  • I love this area! First time on Kiwi. Was not pretty skiing but I made it down. Hoping to get better snow and send Kiwi from the top before too long!

    Language warning: I hit a shark fin in a part of P4 that is unskiable in the last few seasons (I suppose that is not too surprising) and was not happy. Also, finally have enough snow to ski Kiwi! It wasn't fresh enough to send from the top this time, but I hope to get the chance before too long. This time I took it slow (and not very pretty). Will have a couple more Mammoth videos out within the next few days Nothing too crazy, but the coverage is insane! Conditions were mostly soft but a bit variable.

    We skied this the same day! You must have been shortly after me. The pole you pass at 0:46 I found on the slope and we stuck it there for the owner to come get. What a coincidence. Was amazing conditions. Great skiing!

    This is Main Chute in the Palisades at Squaw Valley. It isn’t that technical or difficult, but it does have serious pucker factor for first timers. If you want to see something actually scary, a short walk to the right will let you look down The Chimney. Outside of huge snow years, The Chimney is about as a big a pucker factor as you’re likely to ever experience. My girlfriend’s ring is made from the lump of coal I stuck up my ass before The Chimney’s pucker factor turned it into a diamond. In any case, this isn’t Corbett’s Coulior as someone incorrectly posted, and it is right on the middle of some excellent lines that are just a short walk from the Siberia chair at Squaw.

    You need a new right pole, it is bent near the bottom and that means that it is structurally compromised. Nice job on your skiing, enjoying your vids

    You seem to ski like a normal skier on this video, where as when you sent Kiwi from the top you became a killing machine...what had you eaten/taken before you did Kiwi? I want some🤔

      Crack!

    • @DaleySpam
      @DaleySpam  6 месяцев назад

      No, actually though even though it may not look like it, that smooth, soft April corn snow is much better for high speed straigtlining than this thin layer of softer snow. Plus it was bumpier. Have to take it slower on days like this (even though it was still very good conditions overall)

      When you were on lower Kiwi for the test run, a voice started talking to you and it can be heard on 'mauro Piccotto @ sensation black 2002' 0.00 to 1.04 mins. Instead of "this 'night' holds for each and every one of us the very meaning of our lives", it said to you, "this 'line' holds for each and everyone of us the very meaning of our lives"

    I just went up there last Tuesday and I took P3 down to the bottom of Kiwi Flats and there was way less snow than in this video somehow. (on Kiwi Flats)

      Interesting, I will be curious to see what it looks like later this season. Maybe the wind has blown a lot of snow off

  • @waltysalamander

    Sick! So cool that you hit Kiwi even if it wasn’t skiable from the very top. How hard do you think it is from the top compared to some of the Palisades runs you’ve done?

    • @DaleySpam
      @DaleySpam  Год назад

      Kiwi is sketchier because it is longer and has much higher consequences of failure. It is not as steep as some of the steepest Palisades lines though, and probably less technically difficult, at least from the side traverse entrance that I did in this video. The drop in from the top would be (will be, hopefully!) just about as gnarly as anything I have ever done though.

    Something happened confidence wise, in the second part? Maybe snow pack wasn't instilling trust...I feel you were just straight lining way more terrifying stuff previously.

    • @DaleySpam
      @DaleySpam  Год назад +2

      Yeah, it was really to do with conditions. The snow was mostly soft in the chute but it was pretty treacherous solid chop below, so I did not want to exit with too much speed. Also there is a pretty big cliff to ski around near the bottom, so I did not want to risk losing control. But yeah, I did lack confidence, this was my first time skiing Kiwi so I took it slow. Hope to hit it again soon with more confidence!

    • @BucoBucolini
      @BucoBucolini Год назад +1

      @@DaleySpam actually, yes, first time skiing this kind of terrain... didn't take that in consideration. I imagine almost everyone will take it with caution first time around.
